Here's why all three of us…read moreare big fans. 1) Staff: The principal and many other staff members have been there for a long time. They know the school well, its rhythms, and the community. Our daughter has enjoyed every teacher, and many got to know how her brain works and how to best teach her. Teachers and staff take their jobs seriously and communicate well. 2) Communication: Staff quickly communicate everything to families from emergencies to homework to school events. 3) Community: Because class sizes are smaller, you get to know the other families. The school organizes events, groups, and more to build community. 4) Resources: They are equipped to give a good education to kids who may have differences. Our daughter benefited from their support staff and Reading Clinic recommendation.

While I did get top-quality education at Thomas S. Wootton, aka Woo-ten, or WOOT'n (no one can ever…read morepronounce it), the school itself lacked in diversity. Sure, it was one of the top public schools in the nation with a 95% graduation rate, but everyone was SO spoiled (including myself). If I were to ever move back to MD and have kids, I would never send my kids there. (I guess never say never). Wootton does offer 1st class education, but not 1st class etiquette/social skills. I take 1 star off for the lame brats who go there (including myself, an alumnus)... but seriously 4 stars b/c I don't want the public school system to hate on me.

Majority of students are spoiled brats who have their parents money and think that they're the one ones in the world that matter, some of the teachers are either weirdos or assholes, and admin doesn't really do shit. My counselor is horrible, she put me in a class with a student that harassed me throughout middle school and she was specifically told not to put me in any classes with her because of that, yet she did. My counselor also never deals with any of my problems and I actually had a teacher deal with it quicker than my own counselor, which is fucking horrible. The bathrooms always have plastic wrap over the urinals and toilets, so students can only really use a few bathrooms, and the air conditioning sucks ass, it's always hot, even in summer. The busses are horrible and so is my bus driver. My bus driver is rude and aggressive when he doesn't like students, and breaks hard on the bus when a students he doesn't like is on the bus, I've almost hit my head and fallen out of my seat, and nothing's been done, and this was first reported a year ago. He would also kick kids off of the bus and claim they never used the bus even when they did everyday and he would literally kick them off just because he didn't like them.

I have never been in this school and I wanted to see what this event was all about. The first thing I see upon entering is a business called Feeling Foxy Confections. The lady and I were both wearing fox shirts and we hit it off well. Looking around I saw some items but did not want to buy her product just yet. I told her I would be back later on. The next real station that caught my eye is a self publisher by the name of C.J Brightley. I am looking at a book called The Wraith and The Rose. This might be the first book I read of hers...okay, I just went back to the school and bought her book for twenty six dollars after tax. I learned that C.J Brightly has a sequel to this book coming out soon. She signed my book twice. I a very much inspired to get my books published. The next person I met is another author and book designer. He goes by the name Larry Issa. He writes children's books and has a new book that just came out. I admire what these two authors have done. The rest of the school look fine, but none of the other stations got my attention like the three table stations I saw. Stopping by W.T Woodson High School was worth it today.

They also have a parking lot but on this Saturday morning it was designated for vendors. The school is extremely clean with nice classrooms. The nongender bathroom didn't have working locks which I hope is fixed. The gender bathroom, for females, was very nice and clean.

I have no doubt that my child is ready for college based on their experience at Burke. It's a warm and welcoming community with academic rigor, but kids are not as stressed out as some other schools. Kids are taught to be independent thinkers and to self advocate. It's an urban school so wonderful opportunities to explore the city. Sports facilities are lacking, but an easy compromise to make for the location. Sports teams are no cut which means kids can play sports every season if they choose.

Inside an 1885 mansion in Dupont Circle is the city's oldest institution dedicated to the study of…read morethe Middle East. Opened in 1946, the Middle East Institute is a think tank, but they also maintain an art gallery with rotating exhibits free to the public. Open during normal business hours during the week, stop in without an appointment. Sign in at the front desk and explore one large room of art. I stopped by in November of 2022 and saw a contemporary photography exhibit by Middle Eastern photographers. Afterwards, I used the restroom and exited through the back courtyard.
