Do NOT go to Richard at Achor Counseling. Me and my boyfriend went to the Achor Counseling Center…read morein East providence. We had the owner and social worker Richard Figueira as our counselor for 3 sessions. He NEVER showed up for our 4th session at 10am. We waited almost a half an hour then left him a note and left. I expected at least a phone call with an apology and an attempt to reschedule. NOTHING! I even called the office about 1-2 weeks later and spoke with someone who answered and explained what happened. She apologized but we still never heard form our therapist Richard Figueira. How thoughtless and unprofessional. At first I thought his blunt straightforward style would be helpful for couples to get to the heart of the matter quickly and effectively. Instead, he was just plain negative and rude stating "You two have lots of problems that I do not know if they can be fixed." I think it's more that he is incapable of fixing anyones problems as he obviosly has too many of his own.

I've built up a great relationship with my councilor, which is why this review gets 2 stars instead…read moreof 1, but it didn't really help me too much and was hardly professional. She would use the phone during our sessions, would barely talk, and even misgendered me multiple times for months after I came out to her as trans (I had to aggressively ask her to stop, and I will say she made an effort but it wasn't too effective). I basically fidgeted with toys and talked to myself for 3 years. Never was really offered many coping skills, tips, etc. save for a few pieces of paper with activities that were clearly not aimed at my age group (saw her from about 15y-18y) mostly just had someone to talk to. She was frequently late, and quite a few time was not even there for an appointment (many times she was sick or had very good reason not to be, but no one contacted me and I ended up waiting for an hour or more) no secretary or person to ask questions in the waiting room, just a tiny window to the main office that usually has its blinds pulled. Good luck getting any help with scheduling or payment there. I went to their resident psychologist (no longer available I guess, thank heavens!!) to get prescribed medication. They did not take insurance and I spent ~2000 dollars to get laughed at and handed a piece of paper with "prozac" scribbled on it. I'm not kidding. This Dr. did not give a shit about me. She actually laughed when I told her about my past problems with drugs, suicide, self-harm and abuse, and then didn't even discuss treatments with me. Honestly, if you're looking for someone to talk to, be my guest. I only went here because they were one of the few places that accepts neighborhood, but there are many places out there that are probably more than worth the price.

I had a relationship with Lisa for several years and she truly transformed my life. Before meeting…read moreLisa, I felt confused, angry, unstable, and constantly anxious as a standard in my life. At the end of our relationship, I am now confident in my self regulation, stable minded, and happy as a new daily life standard. I understand my trauma now more than I ever did before working with Lisa. I would not have been able to understand or learn the tools I have now if I did not work with Lisa to improve my life. If you are in need of a personal or life transformation, Lisa is here to support and guide you through your journey. She is patient, supportive, and validating, first and foremost. She is thorough in her work, detail oriented, hardworking, and she will lead you with a positive mindset. The benefits Lisa's work has given my life are priceless and unending. My relationships with others are better - instead of self sabotaging, I now have the skills and tools to foster healthy relationships with loved ones, ultimately leading to a happier life. I'm able to set critical boundaries with confidence to protect myself when it is (inevitably) needed. I am able to be much kinder to myself than ever before, leading to increased confident and greater successes in my work and social life. 100% recommend Lisa to work with. She is a genuinely kind hearted individual with a thoughtful, selfless mind. She sets a standard for therapist globally. Very hard working and excels at her job. Thank you so much Lisa.

They "forgot" to refill my rx for over a month despite several calls from both the pharmacy and myself. Only when I said I'd report them (which I am doing today) did they respond. Their response was "oh I thought she did that". After being passed to a new provider when the dr retired, she left after a couple of months and I was passed to yet another person, Inez. She kept cancelling my appointments with no explanation, just a text saying cancelled. These people are lazy and they don't care about you at all, they have no idea how important consistency is with the meds they prescribe. Do not waste your time here.

Today, I called to cancel an appointment due to a legitimate physical health concern (sun poisoning), and I was threatened with termination from the practice if I canceled again. This kind of policy is not only ethically disturbing, it may violate multiple federal and professional standards. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), it is illegal to discriminate against or penalize patients for medical conditions -- physical or mental. The American Medical Association (AMA) also clearly states that physicians must not abandon patients, and that termination of care must involve clear documentation, adequate notice, and non-discriminatory reasoning. To make matters worse, the individual making this threat was not my provider, but the office manager, Liz -- who claimed she had the authority to unilaterally terminate patients for canceling appointments, even for medical reasons. If Liz accessed or acted upon information in my personal medical record without direct clinical justification or HIPAA training, that also raises serious concerns about HIPAA violations. Office administrators are not legally authorized to enforce medical decisions without provider oversight. This facility claims to serve people dealing with trauma, anxiety, and mental health conditions -- yet shows zero compassion, flexibility, or professionalism toward long-term patients managing chronic health issues. If this is how they treat someone with a decade-long record of commitment, I fear for those in more vulnerable circumstances.
