Mr. Kelly is one of the nicest men around. If you want a quality piece that will last as long as Mr. Kelly (He will be 93 next month!) you want to visit his shop. For anyone who isn't local to the area, please understand this place is basically just a storage building for one elderly man's stuff that he refuses to part with. Locals have been born, raised and had families of their own in less time than Kelly's been holding onto this building with the same trinkets lining the windows. We couldn't get into this store on Friday 9/13 because it wasn't opened. Sign on door said Store Hours for Friday were 12:00 noon - 4:15pm. Got there between 1:15/1:30 and store was dark, no lights on, doors locked, and no sign on door to indicate they would be open later and/or out to lunch. Tiki Says: This old timer Kelly is lost in his own collection. He has been around for sometime 83 years. But his "stuff" has been around much much longer (close to 50 yrs). While there are many antiques and vintage items that cost a small fortune... there are only very few items that are well within the budgets of ordinary citizens in Florence, KY. Rarity, quality, beauty and craftsmanship are still valued in society, but becoming less so especially as years pass. One thing he has definitely forgotten, is the law of Supply and Demand. This applies to the antiques world as to other retail operations. Tastes change, and we're finding that objects which were costly ten or twenty years ago are now affordable. The taste of younger generations (millennials) runs toward later antiques and vintage; Art Deco and Retro are currently popular. The same applies for collectible items. There is still a market among die-hard collectors, but modern interests have changed and people are much more likely to do something digital rather than play with old dolls and tin toys. Ditto for all things craft-y. No one is going to pay $20 for antique blue mason jar! This is something that the owner Kelly needs to understand. He's been sitting on items covered in dust for ages now. This isn't a antique shop it's a tiny museum of high priced items of the past. And there... EVERYTHING... sits. Further, if you wish to collect something that was mass-produced, even many years ago, these items will be relatively inexpensive simply because so made were made and therefore many have survived so just because he has one in his shop doesn't make it valuable! Most are NOT looking for a wooden shovel that's chipped on the bottom, made in the 1800s... especially at $140.00 ! What is one to do with that?? I certainly agree that at the top end of every collecting field, antiques and vintage goods remain expensive, but there are other places to shop where they are ALWAYS getting in "new" items. eBay is here for a reason! EBTH (Everything but the house) is also a good example of places to buy. MOST of Kelly's items haven't moved in 25 years! And their dust is there to prove it. One tried-and-true method is to know that one who buys an affordable item in good condition, and when the opportunity presents itself, sells that one and buys something superior. It's a slower way to build a collection, but it works. Kelly doesn't quite truly seem to understand antiquing and selling, only years of buying in the past and holding on... What to do now? He should heavily advertise locally and get his name out so people come here rather than elsewhere. It doesn't have to be just a antique store. Antiques as gifts are also a HUGE market he's missing! Also, he seriously needs to go through and honestly reprice EVERYTHING! Doing nothing will prove to be the greatest loss of time, money, passion and effort. His shop WILL ultimately and completely be liquidated when God forbid he passes. And guess what? It will sell to what the market deems it's worth! NOT ONE PENNY MORE! read more

I walked into the store and was immediately yelled at for coming in. Apparently the old man doesn't like customers coming into the store during the hours posted open on the front door (which is about 4 hours a day). After he told me off for coming with only 20 minutes to shop, he insulted me for being a first time customer, told me he had exactly what I came to look for, and told me to go away and come again another day. I can heartily promise you that that day will never come. As I finish writing this, his store is still technically open for the day. I pray to God that no unfortunate soul was foolish enough to try to shop there after I left! read more

Excellent find and fun place to explore. This guy doesn't sell anything that won't stand the test of time. There's a good assortment of cast iron and other cookware, typewriters, some furniture, books of local interest, old maps, model ships and aircraft... even a Swiss horn. If you're looking quality antiques without searching a huge mall, this place cuts right to the chase. read more
