The bar itself has been overhauled and re-finished in several parts until you get what you see now. In short, the place was transformed by its current owners. So, that is nice in that you can walk into a pub in Custer, WI and feel like you walked off the street in any larger town in America. The beer selection is stellar for this neck of the woods, and there is a special attention paid to Irish-oriented alcohol because, well, it's an Irish pub. That, and the owner (Clancy) looks like he crawled out of Braveheart. The food is standard to better-than-average for the most part, but by and large it is done well by Clancy's wife in the kitchen. She runs the show for the most part, and though she is alone, she manages to keep up with the appetites of those who come in...for the most part. The most celebrated food there is probably the Friday Fish Fry (a Wisconsin tradition if you didn't figure that out yet). I've eaten it a number of times, and the consistency of that particular dish is outstanding! Whether you're in Stevens Point, a local, or just moving through the area...Clancy's is worth a stop. It's also the FIRST place you should stop in its neighborhood. There are other bars, but Clancy's is going to give you a bit more of what most people are looking for. Then again, the other bars aren't terrible or overly lacking. They're just more, hmmmm, specific to their particular clientele's needs.

But the real stars are on the menu - all home made by the lady of the house - mostly with an Irish / English twist, and all with character and great taste. Personal favorite is the Saint Paddys pizza - a variation on the staple of corned beef and cabbage - served up on a pizza base with a gorgeous mustard sauce. Friday fish fry is baked and crumbed - nothing deep fried and is a pleasant change from the norm. If possible skip eating in the main dining room - it mostly lacks the atmosphere of the front bar and games room - and instead soak up all this place has to offer while sitting at or alongside the bar. The place gets full and busy on Friday nights but is never rowdy and the TVs are well placed and not obtrusive. And leave room for dessert - again they're home made and there's always a couple of themed items that are sure to please. Prices are very reasonable and portions are a good size. I'm a fan.

A short drive from the Fox Valley, I was startled to see such a nice pub and grill. Looks great from the outside and even nicer in the inside. If I lived close by, I'm sure I'd be there frequently. Plenty of televisions, gaming machines and a well designed layout. I was seriously impressed. The night we went, they only offered soup flights. We were told by our friends, who had been there several times, that they offer only pizzas, soups and appetizers. Our friends had not tried the pizza but said the appetizers are great. There were literally a dozen soups to choose from for our flights. I picked sausage tortellini, clam chowder and stuffed pepper for my flight. It also comes with a piece of cheese/garlic bread. Not only were the soups nice and hot, they were all tasty. This sentiment was shared by my dining partners. The staff were friendly and helpful. The drinks were reasonable and well made. The ambience was excellent. Definitely a place we will return to!

There was just the one man who I believe is the owner working in front and he was busy taking and filling orders the whole time we were in. We ordered the meatballs app and a sausage pizza. This trip to the corner bar landed us on a Saturday night prime rib special. The whole family came this time. My dad and I ordered prime rib sandwich ( my only complaint) it's cheap in price and your get what you pay for by getting 1/8 inch thick cut on this. I would gladly have paid 12-15 dollars for a good amount of meat. The wife got broasted chicken and she loved it. My sister ordered the queen cut prime rib and as you can see not like most prime ribs where you get a good portion of fat on it this one did not have much fat and you can come to expect that from johns. Her boyfriend ordered the sirloin which definitely looked like a great cut of meat! My dads wife ordered deep fried shrimp and scallops and the scallops melted in your mouth. Several of the bands also showed up so the place was packed and lively. There was also live music both nights. They hosted a Full Irish Breakfast Saturday morning which was scrambled eggs, bacon, bangers, black pudding, stewed tomatoes, pork and beans, and scones. It was also good I forgot to take a picture of the food but I got one of the great Irish Whiskey! If you have ever had bacon in Ireland you know it's the best! I took the leftover scone and banger with me and had it the next morning. It was still delicious!

The sauces were bold and flavorful, and the cornbread added a sweet, comforting balance to the meal. We enjoyed it so much, I completely forgot to take any pictures--which says a lot. Definitely a great takeout option if you're nearby, especially if you're craving some seriously good ribs.
