If you're like me, you hate having to deal with mechanics.  Knowing very little about cars I am at an informational disadvantage and am in no real position to validate or challenge anything they tell me.  This has caused me to never really know if the mechanic was 100% truthful. For the past few weeks, I have been borrowing a car from a relative. Almost immediately we started hearing a loud rattle whenever we drove it. My mother-in-law recommended I go to Paul Kelly at this Sunoco because he's always been so nice and transparent when talking to her. Taking her advice, I met with Paul and I found him to be very approachable and knowledgeable.  When I explained the situation, he immediately knew that it was a common issue with Subaru's and warned me that there might be a possibility that he might not be able to fix it given the unique positioning of this part.  Long story short, not only was he able to fix it, he explained to me what was going on.  Because it was so reasonable and I felt like Paul had been completely honest, I asked him to give the car a tune up which he talked me out of letting me know that the car was a good 20,000 miles away from needing one. Suffice it to say, if you are on or near the Jersey Shore and need to have your car looked at or worked on, I would certainly recommend this Sonoco and ask for Paul Kelly (I think he runs it from the name). read more

Called and talked to Matt, a very pleasant young man. Just needed air in the tires, he said bring it down we will take care of it. When I showed up the next day he remembered me. No charge: he checked all of the tires and added air when needed. He was so nice I scheduled an oil change for tomorrow. Shout out to this family run business. Paul and Paul Jr and all the guys we have had the pleasure of dealing with could not have been more solid. Fair prices, you get on time updates and the car runs like a charm after. Every summer we take our cars here for oil changes, headlights and even breaks on an Audi Q7 one year. They order parts promptly, follow up with calls to let us know the status and always say...you have a 1/2 tank, do you need us to fill it up? Yes! Of course, I do. On Labor day my wife's car suddenly sounded as if I needed a new muffler. I did not want to drive back up north not knowing what was wrong. I called Kelly's and the mechanic on duty, Domenic, told me he was closing in a half hour but to bring it by and he would check it out to make sure it was safe to drive. I did and he and his co-mechanic Tony could not have been nicer. They put it up on the lift, found the problem and assured me it was safe to drive, but noisy. They did not know I am a regular customer. They could have easily told me "sorry, we are closing". Instead, they offered small town service just because it was the right thing to do. I get my car serviced there every summer and will continue because of good honest service. read more

I was in a car accident near here and pulled in to have them check that it was safe to drive. It wasn't, and they really took care of me, and never made a dime. They brought over a truck and transferred all our belongings and took us back to our rental condo. The manager gave me great insight and information on how to handle this with my insurance, kept the car until it could be towed, and recommended a great auto body shop to go to. He really took care of me just because they are so nice! read more

On 7/8/14 I brought my car to Kelly's Sea Bay Sunoco for an oil change and asked him to check the plugs since it was awhile since they were changed. The owner recommended oil change, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter and a fuel injection cleaning. He stated the car was in excellent condition and I should do the work, I said ok. later that day I received a call asking if there was a knock in the engine, I said NO. They said that they were going to try a another oil filter just in case the 1st 1 was defective. An hour later no different still a knock. The owner kept the car over night to try again in the morning to see if he could figure it out. The next day I received a call and the owner, Paul Kelly, asked me to come to the shop. he said the car was knocking in the morning and now it would not start at all and he didn't know what to do. He call the dealer I use for service, Paul's Volvo in Hawthorne NJ, EXCELLENT DEALER, for help and to review my service records. Since Mr. Kelly did not know what to do I had the car towed 100 mile to the dealer, had to rent a car to get home, this ruined my Vacation! Mr. Kelly STATED HE WOULD SUBMIT A CLAIM TO HIS INSURANCE COMPANY IF HE DID ANYTHING WRONG THEY WOULD PAY TO MAKE IT RIGHT., INCLUDING MY RENTAL CAR. It took almost 2 weeks for the insurance adjuster to call and speak with me and the dealer that had the car. It was discovered that the timing belt jumped 4 teeth and caused the knocking in the engine. Kelly's Sea Bay Sunoco continued to work on the car with the engine knocking until it no longer would start. This resulted in engine damage, bent valve. Kelly's Sea Bay Sunoco and his insurance company , The Burlington Insurance Company will not take any responsibility or pay for the damage or rental. I spoke with 4 mechanics and all agree there was no reason the timing belt should have jumped by itself. The dealer's mechanics at Paul's Volvo examined the timing belt, pulley and tensioner and saw no wear, cracks, missing teeth or stretching of the belt. The timing belt was not due to be replaced for another 26,000 miles. The car was a 2005 Volvo xc70 that was dealer maintained by the book since day one. oil changes every 3,000 miles. it went into Kelly's Sea Bay Sunoco running perfect and left on a flat bed. now I am out about $4,000.00 I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND KELLY'S SEA BAY SUNOCO TO ANYONE! read more
