    Diet Pepsi with a lime

Yesterday, I realized that I have never had lunch in Bowmanville. I generally do shopping, perhaps get some sorbet (my former hangout closed a while back), and head home. I decided to get some lunch. Where do I go for a lunch bite? I drove across the street from Winners to Kelsey's. I haven't set foot in a Kelsey's in probably a good five years. I was breaking more than one streak. I arrived at around 3 pm. I had to wait for a minute before a man from the bar helped me out. Since it wasn't that busy, I asked for a table and selected a booth in the dining room. Hey, might as well go all out. Another person from the bar came over to take my order. I got a Diet Pepsi and the tomato basil penne with grilled chicken. My drink came out promptly. It helps to have folks working the bar provide you with a drink when you need it! Moments later, my penne was ready. The penne was odd. It had goat cheese on it. Typically, I don't expect goat cheese in penne. I don't mind eating it, but there was far too much of it in my dish. So, I put a lot of it off to the side. The other odd detail was that my grilled chicken had pesto sauce. I like tomato sauce with my penne and the grilled chicken also takes the same sauce. I also like pesto penne where the chicken accepts that it will be coated with pesto sauce. But, to have both sauces in the same dish? It was a first for me. My meal just seemed odd. I loved the spinach, fresh tomatoes, and grilled chicken. The abundance of goat cheese that I didn't exactly want, along with two different sauces in my dish has made me decide to never order this dish again! I wanted dessert. I ordered the go nuts donuts. Essentially, they are donut pillows full of Nutella. You have the option of dipping them into caramel or peanut butter sauce. I went with the latter. I was equally as excited about trying them as my server. She loved my order and said that it would not disappoint. She was right. Oh my goodness... exceptionally delightful! They are light and done perfectly. The powdered sugar married with the slightly salty peanut butter sauce made each donut so tasty. I was in heaven. I should have ordered dessert and nothing else! The go nuts donuts and my Diet Coke would make my review a five-star review. With the odd tomato-pesto-basil-goat cheese-grilled-chicken penne dish, I am giving this restaurant four stars. I was at this restaurant for 1.5 hours. It was a nice, leisurely lunch with wonderful service. (47)

The best part of Kelseys are their wings 100%. I always get the wings in Bowmanville but what I've noticed lately is there is no consistency, one time they will be dry and have little to no sauce and other times they will be drenched and wet. Even when I ask for my wings SAUCEY I still end up with the same thing happening. Aside from that the staff is very nice and comes back often to make sure everything tastes okay.

Not sure why it has such low ratings. Came in for a light dinner and a couple drinks and I thought the place was very good. The ladies at the bar were attentive, the food was very good, and left satisfied with my experience.

    $25.40 for fries and gravy.

Well I just spent $25.40 on fries and gravy! I ordered a half rack of ribs with a side of fries and gravy. When they arrived I was shocked that they called this little serving a half-rack. It was 4 ribs, and it was the 4 from the skinny end. Oh well, drop a star for serving size.... so now the taste test... OMG, they were so dry that the Crocodile Dundee knife I was given barely made it through them. One bite was all it took for me to confirm that these were the most dry ribs I've ever had. They were not edible, so ya, concentrated on my fries and gravy. I am not one to raise a fuss, but the waitress clearly saw that I hadn't eaten a single rib. I was expecting her to ask if something was wrong with them, but she didn't. Failing that I was expecting her to ask me if I wanted a take-out container, but no, she didn't do that. She gave us the bill, and left the table with my ribs still sitting there untouched. Odd that she cleared the rest of the table though.

We made a reservation for 4 people at 5pm on a Friday night just to be safe. 5pm is a little early for dinner but the restaurant was still about a quarter full when we arrived. The inside of the restaurant is what I would describe as a comfortable modern cafe. There was a lot of artwork on the walls that featured local artists and that you could purchase. We were all pretty hungry from our travels so we started the meal off with the Chicken and Waffles. There are only 3 pieces for this appetizer so one of our couples split a piece which turned out okay. It was a tasty bite sized morsel. My main was an alfredo with only the good stuff - chicken, mushrooms, and onions in a creamy sauce on top of perfectly cooked fettuccine. It looked like a deceptively small portion but I actually needed help finishing it. I stole bites off the plates of some of the other dishes in my party. The fries from the burger special were a real winner. They were thick cut, some with the skins still on them, and crispy at the ends. My definition of an addictive fry! I was pretty liberal when sampling the pasta special which was a sous vide lamb on top of a homemade gnocchi in a ragu. The lamb was really mouth watering. It had a subtle taste of lamb but it was really meaty like a steak. The gnocchi had varying levels of crispiness and had a great contrast in texture. Finally I was able to sneak a piece of the lamb shank which was also to die for. It was fall off the bone and so incredibly tender. The service was really wonderful that night too. Our server checked on us multiple times through the meal and made sure we always had everything we needed. On our way out it felt like we were thanked by the entire kitchen and bar staff as we walked by. A lovely dining experience to check out if you're ever in Bowmanville!

We had the baba's classic pierogi, it was well prepared, served hot. Also had the bbq philly cheese steak as loaded wrap, it was really delicious, aromatic and nicely prepared. I noticed Loaded Pierogi in the same plaza, several doors down from Planet Fitness. I love pierogies (or perogies, depending on what you like spelling-wise), so I made a mental note. Yesterday, I had a craving for pierogies. I decided to drive back to Bowmanville to check out this place. Thankfully, I like day trips, so I didn't mind backroading it over here. There was plenty of parking in this plaza. I parked fairly close to Loaded Pierogi without getting blown away by gusty winds and walked in. I was greeted by a cheerful young woman. I was the only one in the place. I had never been to any Loaded Pierogi. I asked what the difference was between the small and large sizes. You get six and eight pierogies, respectively. Each pierogy is on the normal size scale. You can cut it in half and each half represents a decent bite. I had looked at the menu the night before. I knew what flavour I wanted. I went with the large wild mushroom and truffle pierogies. They had sautéed portobello, oyster, cremini, and button mushrooms, with thyme, goat cheese, white truffle oil, caramelized onions, and green onions. Perfect for the mushroom and truffle oil lover! She asked whether I wanted my pierogies boiled or fried. I asked whether I could get a split. In the past, you could, but you can't anymore. That's okay. I went boiled. This place has beer. I was impressed. I didn't get any and opted for a Diet Pepsi instead. I paid with a credit card. The transaction was easy and smooth. I also tipped. I decided to dine in. I had to present my proof of vaccination and ID. All went well. I found a table and sat on the long, cushioned bench side. I had a sip of my drink before my order was ready for pickup. I put my mask back on, fetched my food, thanked the woman, and headed back to the table. Although you can place your order online and drop by to pick it up, my ordering while at the eatery took little time to prepare. It was probably because I came during a non-rush time to chow down. This meal was my late lunch just past 3 pm. I loved all the mushrooms, green onions, goat cheese, carmelized onions, and green onions that completely covered all pierogies underneath. I was so happy. I found a pierogy. It was boiled perfectly. I cut it in half. It was fully stuffed with potato filling. I took a bite with some toppings. It was such a comforting bite. I loved the mushrooms. The truffle oil was subtle, but definitely present. There was a lot of goat cheese that was so creamy. If you hate goat cheese, you may want to pass on this flavour. I loved it, especially with the carmelized onions and green onions. The flavours were incredible. I was so happy eating everything. I felt fancy, despite being dress casually, as usual. I normally don't care for sour cream. However, the sour cream here is different. It tastes fresh and has something else mixed in with it (maybe garlic or onion powder) and it was addictive. I used the washroom before driving back to Markham. There are two single-stall washrooms. I used the regular one. The other supported accessibility needs. This eatery was super clean and the washroom was no exception. My experience was excellent. I'd definitely come back and try more items. (448)

I've had their fish and chips in the past, which were meh compared to what I've experienced elsewhere, but that is where I will finish complaining and start complimenting for example the tacos here. They are amazing, as is the poutine, the onion rings, and the Smash burger--I got the Angry Sterling, which is a flavour explosion with delicious toppings. And the drink, the Toronto cocktail, was amazing--a strong enough flavour of whisky with just enough of the liqueurs to make it not sting going down. Oh, and I haven't spoken about the live music yet. There was a guy playing guitar who was taking requests, and--and I'm saying this as a person who isn't too big a fan of acoustic guitar music--was pretty good. His passion alone made me start to bop my head and tap my foot to the music. As per usual, the service was extremely slow but I told them it's just because Bowmanville runs at a slower pace than Toronto. However, I never understand why it always takes so long for the waitress to bring our drinks at The Deck. This time the waitress brought our three waters and then we waited another 7-10 minutes for our beer. She brought us the two beers we ordered and another water for my one friend. As if she forgot she has just brought us three waters already. I recommended the Deck salad to my friend because I've enjoyed it in the past, as indicated in my previous review. When it arrived, it was the saddest looking salad ever. Also, please not it didn't have a single kale leaf despite the description being that it is a kale salad. The dressing was completely tasteless, perhaps just pure oil. My friends also ordered fries, which were cold. My friend ordered the fries based on their description of being double fried because she likes them crispy. She said they didn't taste double cooked at all. We also asked the server for vinegar and ketchup twice before she brought it. However, she did bring the mayo, which my friend asked to be brought with the fries (because of dietary restrictions.) Apparently the menu descriptions and what you get do not align. The menu should indicate that you will receive a variation of what you hope you're ordering. At the end of this disappointing lunch, the waitress asked if she could clear our plates as we were finished eating. We said yes. Then she proceeded to walk away without clearing any of the plates. As we was leaving, we asked if she could bring our bills. She gave one to me and my friend and my other friend, who only ordered one thing - a burger - had to wait for another bill because she charged for the wrong thing. Which may have been surprising to make a mistake when only one burger needed to be charged, but we unfortunately (or fortunately, as we were prepared for this) expected this. Not impressed. I should have photographed the salad to post but I was too sad!
