I was searching for the beaches around Toronto, and decided to give Kelso Conservation Area a try, mainly because it isn't too far from the city. I was a little disappointed because we were not allowed in the waters due to algae. Like many other beaches in Ontario, the sand is quite coarse. Also, you can see cars passing on hwy401 behind the water which obstructs the view. There is an entrance fee of $6.75 per adult, and I think it is not worth it if you are mainly there for the beach. I think it could be a good picnic place with a lot of shade and tables. However, I recommend other places if you are looking for a solid beach and going into the water.

This place is amazing!! In Summer or Winter!! In the Summer you can take a cold refreshing dip in Kelso Lake which is really clean, kids can play on it's sandy beach and build sandcastles, they have a snack bar lifeguards throughout most of the day. They have tons of Summer Camps always going on here, so part of the Beach is always reserved for the Summer Camp as well as other parts of the Conservation Area. Then they have the awesome MTB trail atop the escarpment which has 16km of tracks, which are rated anywhere from beginner to advanced. As you can see by the pictures that I have uploaded with this review. You can spend a full day alone there. But a Helmet is a must, without it they won't let you on the track...so don't forget... Well and then in the Winter they have the downhill skiing and snowboarding, 12 different runs and 5 lifts. They also have rentals and lessons. So for next year I am buying the season pass guaranteed!!! The only bad thing to say about the conservation area is the camping experience, we have small kids so we wanted our first camping trip to be close to home in case we need to retreat. So we decided to camp here, the sites are huge and very nicely taken care of. Biggest downfall was the constant soundtrack of the 401, to the point that I got woken up several times during the night. Not to mention the freight cars that started moving also in and out early in the morning. So camping is a no here. But there are plenty of huge picnic areas which are beautiful and I could recommend.

There wasn't much description on the internet about this place nor there were too many pictures. It was slightly hard to find the trailhead and now that I look back, I like that was the case. The elevation gain was higher than what we would imagine for Ontario, it left us panting while climbing, but that combined with the length of the uphill was just about right to be called "moderate", considering my little hiking experience. After reaching the top, the walk in the woods felt like we're walking surrounded by curtains of greens, browns and reds. There were scraps, cool breeze and just the right number of people.

~ A 3.5 stars ~ I went their for a picnic with the family... Over all its a clean place and is good for BBQs. The place we were at there didn't seem to be any BBQs you will have to bring a portable one. Then we went for a stroll and seem like there is a mini beach area as well. You can rent kayaks and enjoy the lake. Overall good place for some quiet picnic... nothing much.

Went: Sunday, September 6, 5 p.m. This review is only for the beach. I have not been to many beaches, maybe 4 times in my life, including this one. My date has been to many more. The water was quite muddy and very brown and was not something either of us wanted to swim in.

Close beach to the West of Oakville- nice for a day get away that is not too far. Great for small children at the beach- as it is not huge.

Although I like working from home (fewer distractions and avoidance of folks that I don't enjoy working with are my main pros), not chatting with her regularly is a routine that I deeply miss. We met up in Oakville. I live in Markham. She lives in Hamilton. I was okay meeting up with her in her new city, but she felt bad about my driving all the way over. I frankly don't mind a mini road trip. It's all relative to me. Anyway, we grabbed Thai food and got recommendations from a nice woman at Funky Thai to hit the waterfront. My friend and I did a search on our maps apps and we randomly chose to drive to Bronte Beach Park. I led the way over here. My friend feels at ease when I take the lead. Work norms never die. There are at least two lots for parking. I led her into a weird sort of parking tour as I was figuring things out. The first lot that we ultimately parked in was for public vehicles. The lot closer to the marina had a mix of trailers and a small section for public cars. I read the signs carefully. If you have a trailer, you need to get a parking ticket. Otherwise, parking is free for regular folks like us. After we parked further away from the marina, we grabbed our food, and took a nice walk down to the beach. It was a cloudy day. However, this beach is a gem and managed to brighten everything up under the cloud cover. To start, we liked that it was a real beach and not manmade like Sugar Beach. The sand was clean and it felt nice briefly seeping into our sandals. There was a family with inflatable Beach Body surfboards out on the water, came back, and deflated the surfboards several feet away from us. With the marina, there were many folks out on the water. I loved seeing lighthouses. Yes, plural! Everyone here was practising physical distancing that it eased our minds. We eventually found a picnic bench. It was different. One side had seats where we ultimately sat down for nearly two hours to chat and catch up. The other side allowed you to stand up and eat. It felt like our stand-sit desks at work, which was kind of fitting. We ate. We laughed, We people-watched. We enjoyed each other's company. It was a great afternoon in a pretty area. This beach is extremely clean. There were folks on hand to check that everything and everyone was okay. You could find a garbage bin often. There are washrooms in a large building. We enjoyed spending a bit of our Saturday here. I'd come back just to walk around and perhaps take a closer look at those lighthouses next time. (352)

Caledon Trailway - Brickworks along the trail

We were staying in Brampton, and we were looking for a trail to ride our bikes on. I was looking at…read morethe Peel bike website, and saw this long squiggle across the foot of the escarpment. I suggested doing this trail to Lee, and we drove to the start in Terra Cotta and off we went. There are a variety of surfaces to this trail, mostly crushed stone, sometimes dirt, and occasionally paved. It winds through the countryside, past an abandoned brick factory, through farmlands, suburbs, and forests, as well as a downtown tourist area. If you've ever driven along Highway 10 towards Orangeville, you have seen the blue arched bridge of the trail path. It's part of the Trans Canada Trail, and one of the pavilions is located near Caledon East. The trail is gentle and mostly flat, although there are a couple of road crossings that are steep, probably because a railroad trestle was removed at some point. There's a lot of opportunities for nature watching, particularly because the trail goes through several nature preserves. I saw quite a few chippies and squirrels, as well as orioles, jays and other birds. I only have a couple of complaints: one is that although there are frequent trash cans along the trail, in a couple of places they were overflowing with garbage, implying that it had been a very long time since it had been cleaned up. This was pretty yucky in my opinion, a bit of a disappointment. The other complaint was that part of the trail was shut down for maintenance/construction, but there were no signs directing cyclists to a detour. We ended up doing what most people were doing: cutting through the fence and going through the construction site. Other than these quibbles, it's a great trail that you should check out if you're in the area.

@ontrails #YELPGTA #THEGREATTRAIL #INGLEWOOD #TRANSCANADATRAIL…read more You can access this trail via a lot of points - it's actually the first registered section of the Trans Canada Trail. We accessed it through a frail yet charming town of Inglewood, right off of McLaughlin Road. To those staying in Mississauga and Brampton, you can basically take the road straight down to the trail. Apparently, it isn't a hidden secret and tons of people know about this trail. We went at 7 am and saw a few bikers and some walkers. We hiked down with Caesar (my doggo) and it was serene and empty enough that I could let him off leash. We covered about 10km (past hwy 10 and then back). It's an easy hike as the land is pretty flat, a few ups and downs here and there but nothing too rough. It was mostly pebbled path with trees on both sides and some streams of water that Caesar was so KEEN on jumping into. There were 2 concrete bridges we crossed over - all in all it was a great morning walk with the dog. I highly recommend this place.
