Stopped on way to Boothbay Harbor. A nice, albeit unspectacular rest stop. Not as good as I remembered it. A few food options, and so-so bathrooms. Not one of the better rest areas I've been to, but it serves its purpose, the welcoming moose is no more though. read more

Overall for a rest area I believe this one is kinda middle of the road hence the 3 stars. For most of the times we have stopped here the place has been clean including the bathrooms. Typically the bathrooms is our reason for stopping here and clean and well maintained bathroom is a plus. This is also the rest stop that reminds us we are getting close to being back home. I do wish the food options were better here than what they have. Sometimes we have picked up Burger King during late nights due to minimal options. I have heard reports Maine is in progress in revamping the highway service plazas so we shall see if that happens and if it gets better! If you are going along 95 and need to stretch your legs and/or use a bathroom it's worth it. Food wise although it may take longer and detouring check out options off the highway. read more

I mean its a rest area what can I say? The urinals were exceptionally clean and I didnt feel like I was going to get mugged? Lol. I stopped by on my way to Canada and it had everything I needed. Rest rooms. Gas Station. And a place for me to buy some snacks. 5 stars all around. read more

It was a peculiar stop in - because after dinner - surf and turf with my former boss from the law firm - always treating me right - we sat in the den and watched a few innings of the Mets getting killed by some team or another while drinking fine red wine. So I kinda lost track of time and driving things and I had six and a half hours ahead of me - totally forgetting to calculate for sleep because I gotta be bright eyed and bushy tailed at the farm at 5:30SM the very next day. This all hit me at once - I was having such a good time and now it's over and I must go - it's 7:30PM - no time for coffee now, let's hit the road and crank out some miles. And this charge of emergency faded in forty five minutes - I had a NOS citrus energy drink which didn't raise an eyelid - and they were growing heavier. I stopped somewhere in Massachusetts to rest, perhaps get a room and take Monday off - it sounded so delicious but with two large breeds, everyone's telling me that "there's no room at the inn" and I'm losing hope to rest, I'm losing hope to reach my destination on time - and just then I see a giant moose. He's tall brand shiny and I saw a real one about three weeks ago in the lettuce and fennel. This young lad was just about over seven feet tall antlers the width of my garage and wasn't looking amused by the electric fence - then he looked at me. I took my fighting position and prepared to get the horns - nowhere to run, I'm going down throwing everything I got - even with a moose - he just snorted at me and off he went into the brush. This moose was less active so I pet his chest as Philip and Iris were waiting in the doggie rest area. Inside nothing was open - not ever Starbucks - then I spotted movement behind the Burger King counter and approached. They had hot coffee! Thank the Lord and I pounded it leaving second degree internal burns but it was well worth the skin damage because I got to work on time, worked my full shift - with no sleep - at my advanced age - and all thanks to this rest stop. read more

Restrooms and facility were clean. They were actually open and not being cleaned like the southbound Kennebunk rest area was when I'd stopped earlier that morning. We stopped in as a club traveling home, needing to eat dinner. We were one a group of about 18 people, and there were two small groups ahead of us as well, each with about 10 people. It was around 7 PM, and all restaurants were closed except for Burger King. The restaurant was where it all went wrong. We ordered, we waited, we waited, we waited, we waited . . . I'm not exaggerating when I say that 30 minutes later we got our meal, which was almost triple the price of a regular Burger King, and it was wrong. Now, it wasn't just our order that was wrong. 75% our group of 18 had a mistake in their order. Forgotten drinks, wrong condiments, wrong flavor shake, missing fries, incorrect sandwich. They only have a kiosk to order from, so it's not like the cashiers typed in the order incorrectly. We knew what we'd ordered and it was on our slip. It got to the point that our coach said, "Stop telling them about the errors and just eat what you got. I swear they're slowing down in retaliation." So, expect to pay triple, wait triple the time, and get the wrong order. Honestly, get off the highway and eat at a local fast food restaurant and you'll be much happier. Get off the highway a couple miles south of the service station in Biddeford and within a mile of the exit is Wendy's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Walmart, Target, Market Basket, Golden Apple Buffet, Taco Bell, and 99. Cheaper prices, clean restrooms, and faster service. read more

Potty break. It's a service plaza. There is food, toilets and gas to fill your car. There isn't much else to say on that. We opted not to eat there as we were looking for something other than fast food or coffee. read more

Generally I tried to avoid them, but I know it can be a long drive up the length of the state of Maine (staying on 95, Kittery to Houlton is nearly 300 miles after all). This is as good a spot as any to stretch your legs, take a bio break, grab a snack (according to their website: the Burger King and Z-Market are open 24 hours, the Starbucks is only available some days at sometimes), but most importantly: see a moose. If you're visiting Maine and desperately need to see a moose, there's a life-sized statue of one here! read more

The restaurants inside are kind of hit or miss. I've waited in line for 30 minutes before. Starbucks is rarely open. If Popeyes is open they probably have a limited menu. The bathrooms are typically clean. The snack/travel bar is well stocked but pricey. Gas is easy to get. Rarely a wait at the pumps. And a big moose out front you can take a picture. Stopped in at the Kennebunk Service Plaza (Northbound) on the Northbound journey up the Maine Turnpike (Interstate 95) from Dover, NH to Portland, ME. Everything you need is here: restrooms, convenience store goods, coffee and espresso, food, and gasoline. Men's restrooms were large, clean, and well maintained. Free Wi-Fi is available. Lots of seating. There is a Burger King, Popeyes, Starbucks, Hershey Ice Cream and two convenience store options. Lots of parking outside. read more

The only thing the north bound travel plaza is good for is getting gas. We stopped there tonight, hoping to get a quick bite. Starbucks, Burger King, Popeyes, and Dunkin Fonuts were ALL closed, for no apparent reason. I wouldn't bother stopping here.1 read more

Food choices were few, but having Popeyes as one of them made this observation moot. A tank of live 1-1/4 lobsters greets you on the way in. Bathrooms suffered from at least an hour or two of neglect. I've been in many rest stops and the best ones have someone dedicated to keeping the bathrooms tidy. All but two soap dispensers were missing and the entire row of electric hand dryers were mounted just above waist high for an average 5'10" man. It was actually quite comical to see several men hunched over trying to dry their hands. The 8yo boy, however, had no problem doing so. I went a bit harsh on the ratings because cleanliness, particularly at a rest stop, is extremely important as it can get out of hand quick--tonight included. This is a beautiful place to stop with great stores, very clean!! There's an adorable, GIANT moose statue out front that kids will love, definitely makes you feel like you're in Maine. read more

Great, clean area and a nice little rest stop for the family on our way to Portland, Maine. There are a few stores and fast food restaurants for you to pick from but we opted for just some drinks from the convenience store. The restrooms were rather clean considering this is a rest stop. Maine in general is cleaner than Massachusetts so I'm not surprised. read more

My daughter and I are gluten free and there was absolutely nothing for us to eat at the Kennebunk rest stop (unless you include hard boiled eggs or pre-packaged pickles. This is 2022, get with the times! read more

As service plazas go this is a very clean one although I will not try to say I am impartial since this is in my home state. As you walk in, the space is airy and bright. You will not find wrappers or trash on the floor. There is a convenience store, an ice cream stand, Burger King, Popeye's and small open quick grab store. The center is all tables for people to sit down and rest while they eat. The women's bathroom is always clean and well attended. There is a "pet relief" area with picnic tables so you can even sit outside and eat with your pet if you so choose. I recently grabbed a bottle of water from the quick grab store by the entrance and paid almost $3 for it. That's pretty pricey if you ask me. read more

Northbound service plaza just 25 miles north of the Maine-NH border. Gas is at the far end but there is a rear entrance to the concession area near the gas pumps which is much less busy. Gas is $0.15 more than off-turnpike prices. read more

We stopped here on the drive north from Cape Cod to Portland, Maine today. It was the nicest roadside rest stop either of us had seen, despite the parking lot being fairly wild and every-man-for-himself. The bathrooms were clean and plentiful. There were several fast food options, including Starbucks, Hershey's ice cream (who knew?) and Popeye's fried chicken. There were takeaway prepared foods that might have been Starbucks, including sandwiches and fruit and there were food vendors outside. There were an abundance of tables in the center for those who wanted to sit and refuel. Alan and I shared a cranberry-orange scone from Starbucks that was just a tad too sweet for our tastes. In addition to all the food options, there were t-shirts available to buy and an ATM. My favorite part, though, was that they had at least three and maybe more Lyman Whittaker wind sculptures outside in front, dancing in the wind. That was an unusual and a beautiful touch.. It was easy on and off the freeway and we were on our way. read more
