For most things, the prices tend to be on the high side although the vegetable starts we buy are in the ballpark. They do have some beautiful garden decor like chimes, birdbaths, and the like but these are on the high end. I saw a lovely stone cairn but it was priced ridiculously high for what it was and despite its loveliness I walked away. I wish there were more employees roaming around looking to see who might need assistance. I know it's very busy for them especially during the spring but to have a few dedicated people available to help shoppers would be welcome. We have had to wander about to track staff down if we have a question. Parking can be tight in high planting season so I recommend going early. I will say that despite the ridiculous and extended heat wave we had this summer, our tomatoes have really been going strong. I picked another basketful just yesterday morning and will go out there shortly to see what I have today. We also had an abundance of zucchini and I was thrilled to have lots and lots of zucchini flowers because I love to stuff and fry those. (If you've not eaten stuffed zucchini flowers you are missing a treat and it's worth planting zucchini if just for the flowers). We also had bumper crop of cucumbers coming from just 3 plants. I am thrilled we didn't plant any more! As it is, the neighbors were probably hiding from us worried that we were bringing more over. Three of the tomato starts seemed to whither and die early on even before the heatwave so it's not clear whether that was because the plant starts weren't healthy, our planting error or just the luck of the draw. Overall, with lots of effort on our parts (which is par for the course with gardening) we did well with the plant starts we bought here.

During the Spring and Summer they have a sprawling selection of plants, trees, and shrubs, I could (and have) spent hours browsing through them all. The staff is always really nice and you get the vibe that they're genuinely interested in your project and happy to give recommendations. In addition to the actual plants, they have landscaping services, lots of gardening supplies, and even decorative items and gifts. I haven't participated in anything just yet, but they even host all kinds of events and classes throughout the year. Overall, I'm super happy to have such a fun community spot nearby. They only lost a star for me because of the high prices, but as long as the plants keep doing so well I'll keep coming back anyways :)

Until this year, we had nothing but positive things to say. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was completely unacceptable and has left us extremely disappointed. When we called to order mulch, we were told the credit card machine was down, so we couldn't pay over the phone. We were informed that paying the driver upon delivery was an option. We were also told the mulch would be delivered the following afternoon and that the driver would call before arriving. I stayed home all day waiting for the delivery. At 4:20 p.m., I had to leave briefly to pick up my child from daycare for a 4:30 pickup. Shortly after, I received a call from Nelson Landscape stating the mulch had already been delivered. The employee who called was rude, disrespectful, and immediately demanded payment. They insisted I had been told delivery would occur between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., which was never communicated to me. Had I been given that information, I would have made other arrangements. When I asked if I could provide my credit card over the phone, I was told no one was in the office to take payment. I then asked if I could simply call back the next day to pay by credit card. Instead of receiving a reasonable response, the employee said, "Whatever, I don't have time to deal with this," and hung up on me. After years of being a consistent, reliable customer, this level of customer service was shocking. The interaction was disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. We understand that mistakes and miscommunications happen, but there is never an excuse for treating loyal customers this way. Given the way I was spoken to and the complete lack of professionalism shown during this interaction, we can no longer support this company. It's incredibly disappointing that after years of loyalty, one employee's disrespectful behavior has completely changed our opinion of a business we once trusted and happily recommended.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see their huge selection of perennials had been laid out alphabetically this year!!!!! No more aimless wandering looking for astilbe in the middle of the hellebores or sedum. The prices are a bit higher than other local shops or big box home improvement stores. However, aside from two of the mini plants I bought from the clearance section that died, I have never been disappointed in the quality of things I've purchased there. Since it is summer, this is her busy season yet she still found time to come out to the site, do some hands on 'study' of the property, asked for my price point and went to work. I am not a gardener - plants run when they see me coming - so her patience and constant reassurance was key and soothing. She showed up with her Jeep, her tools, iced tea and wonderful smile... and she put me to work (I volunteered) so I could get a feel for things. Ever the perfectionist, Rebecca delivered just what I needed and wanted. Worst service EVER! Been treated better at Home Depot for goodness sake.Apparently since i work in construction and came in after working ,that i didnt look good enough to be treated like a human.I stood at the counter for 5 minutes being straight out ignored by a flamboyant gray haired man who was talking to another customer about his terribly arranged pot of crappy flowers.Two other employees straight out ignored me as well.he i had a simple question that would take 2 seconds to answer.If you dont look like a yuppy in a straw hat with the tag still on the top and you work hard and get dirty for a living done expect kind service here.I took my money with me and LEFT ..THUMBS DOWN to this place read more

As soon as you drive into the ample parking lot, you are greeted with a working waterfall, the first of many located throughout the Garden Center. The front area of the Garden Center is filled with flowering and evergreen shrubs and smaller sized flowering trees. To the left of this area across the driveway are some of the most beautiful Japanese Red Maples and White Birch you will find in the area. They are all landscape size plants but small enough to take home with you, although delivery is available. You can also find an ample selection of white pine, blue spruce, fir, and Emerald Green Arborvitaes, perfect for screening out that neighbor or providing privacy on your deck. Across from the tree and shrub area is the entrance to the store chock full of your lawn, shrub and tree needs, be they seed, fertilizer or insect, weed and disease control as well as gardening tools. What's really nice inside are the bird feeders and houses, whimsical animal watering cans, wind chimes, sculptures and so much more including outdoor furniture. Walk to the back of the store and enter a courtyard with another waterfall and pond with Koi. The courtyard has birdbaths and fountains and is full of seasonal flowers with brick walkways leading to spacious greenhouses to the left and right filled with hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, houseplants and pottery. Outside the right facing greenhouse is an ample selection of sun and shade loving perennials including your favorites as well as choices you may have never seen before. The Gardener's Choice also carries Coast of Maine products including Lobster Compost and Earthworm castings. They also carry Scotts, Miracle Gro, and Jonathan Green. Need a shed? The Gardener's Choice is an authorized reseller for Walpole Woodworks with sheds on site to choose from. One recent addition is a full service independent florist which is located inside the Garden Center building. It is a great convenience to be able to order arrangements or take them with you on your visit. While there, be sure to sign up for their esalesletter which features money saving coupons once or twice a month. They also have a new Facebook page with monthly gardening tips which can also be found on their website at www.thegardenerschoice.net. The staff led by Bob Miller is friendly and knowledgeable which really made my visit complete. I have sent many friends there way and hope you find this review helpful. My guess is that I learned much more from her in about 2 hours than in all my previous efforts combined. The nursery has all the plants one would ever want to attract native pollinator species and buying from Blue Stem is the way to a healthier garden, indeed a healthier planet.
