Brumby Hall & Gardens, home of the Gone With the Wind Museum, in Marietta, GA Arnoldus Brumby built the house in 1851 when he was appointed superintendent of the Georgia Military Institute. Between 150-200 students were enrolled each year until the start of the Civil War in 1861, at which point many cadets and instructors left the join the Confederate cause. Brumby departed as well, serving as Colonel in the 14th Georgia Regiment. In 1864, Union troops, commanded by Union General Willitam T. Sherman, destroyed all of the buildings at GMI except for the house, which they used as a hospital. The Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum houses an original collection of GWTW memorabilia relating to the book and movie. Original costumes, conceptual artwork, signed first editions, movie scripts and hundreds of GWTW artifacts on display.

Little known fact about Margaret Mitchell: she was a lifelong philanthropist and donated funds for African Americans to attend medical school in the Atlanta area. The building is a performance space and has a nice-looking concert hall. The actual art amounted to a couple of rooms and a spread-out open area as one enters. There were some interesting pieces there, but I was surprised there wasn't more art within the amount of physical space we're talking about. It's certainly a place I would check in now and then were I a student here, but as a visitor, it was only a short diversion, not something that I would come a long way to see.

My son turned three yesterday and he's currently obsessed with fire trucks. We opted not to have a party because of Covid so we decided to take him to the fire museum so that he could see all the different types of fire trucks, Firemen's equipment and learn a little bit of history in the process. While the museum is small, it's packed with a lot of quality interesting historical fire trucks and memorabilia and my son absolutely loved it. It took us about an hour to see everything that's in there but I think that's a perfect amount of time for littles. I'd say it only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to see everything the museum has to offer if you're there with adults or older children. It's literally attached to the fire station. You can park across the street in the public parking lot that has hourly parking which only cost us two dollars. Entry is free and you definitely can't beat free 99! When we finished we walked next door to the attached fire station and the firemen gave my son a plastic fireman's hat which he loved and cherished. I would highly recommend this place.

That said, we actually had a great time. My grandson enjoyed pushing buttons and pointing at things. I'm not exactly sure what he was saying, but he smiled the whole time. Nobody else was in there when we arrived. As we were leaving, a couple of more families were arriving. The only thing that I would advise is that apparently, you are not supposed to allow your kids on the engines. We didn't see the sign until we took our photo opportunity. They might want to put a sign on both sides of the engines. Otherwise, a great time was had by all.

Dean-one of the original settlers of Woodstock, GA and it serves as a testament to a by gone era. There is a little of everything at this mini museum from medical equipment used on actual Civil soldiers to old bus tickets schedules to old calculators. One of my favorite is an old licence to sell opium....Fun fact: they were the first in Woodstock to sell Coca Cola.... It's located in the old part of downtown Woodstock across from the restaurant Freight Kitchen & tap. You can park up front or turn on Town Lake pkwy and park in the back. It's a cool little place to check out if you have some time.....

There are both paved and natural trails, so you can choose your adventure depending on how easy or challenging you want the hike to be. Along the way, you'll come across really interesting Civil War landmarks and historic markers that make the hike feel like stepping back in time. It's also very family-friendly and dog-friendly! I was able to hike it with my 4-year-old daughter walking beside me and my 1.5-year-old on my back, and we all had a blast. The views at the top are so worth it, and the whole mountain is filled with a sense of history and beauty. If you're looking for a hike that blends nature, family fun, and historic charm, Kennesaw Mountain is definitely worth the visit.

BEAUTIFUL views - I can't wait to visit again in the spring - and well cleared route. We started around 9am and the trail was already well populated. Other hikers and runners were courteous. This hike is definitely on my repeat list.
