This is a long one... but I have to give credit where credit is due. I contacted Kensington Framing about 30 minutes prior to closing one day last week on a long shot with a question about a piece the shop had framed over a decade ago when the business was still under the Millers name. Jason promptly and politely answered the phone and I explained my situation: the piece at hand was a ca. 1910 panoramic photo print from a sports estate collection I was handling at work that was to be put up for auction and expected to fetch a very high sum. There were many enthusiastic potential buyers. However, it had never been inspected outside of the frame. A third party authentication service had unofficially vetted it, but only through photos. This made me nervous, since the print looked far too "clean" for its vintage. I did not want to risk the integrity of the company I work for by selling a reproduction, but didn't want to take it apart as it was advertised and photographed as framed. I saw a "Miller's Framing" sticker on the back of the piece and tried my luck, as the address was right down the street and there was not much time before the item went on sale. I'm not sure what I was expecting-- even if there was a record of the work done (and that would be unlikely), it wouldn't have any details that would be relevant in this case. But, I thought maybe their expertise and knowledge of their materials and methods could get me a little closer to the truth. Jason admitted that the Millers name hadn't been used since well before his time, but asked pertinent questions and was very professional when I laid out my issues regarding the piece. He said I could drop it off and he'd take apart and re-back it, probably over the weekend. However, I was very much in a bind, and even a turn around that quick (I think it was Thursday) would be too late. I knew it was unreasonable for me, but I asked, and Jason agreed to take a glance over the piece that day if I brought it by before he closed up (which was in about 30 minutes). I write so much to emphasize not only the excellent customer service Jason provided both on the phone and in person, but the far-reaching implications of that service: he took one look at the print in the frame/glass and was immediately able to ascertain with high likelihood that it had been dry-mounted, which would right then drastically lower its value. He cut open the back and confirmed that it was indeed a reproduction, likely 1980s. Jason saved me and my company a HUGE hit financially and perhaps a bigger hit to our reputation. Now that is service at its highest form. Jason has completely, 100% totally won my respect and future business for my own framing needs. Thank you Jason! read more

I had a photo framed, and Jason did a great job. He's easy to work with, and it's nice to talk with the person who's actually going to do the work. I got an idea. I asked Jason if he'd call me when he got the photo matted but before he put it in the frame so I could pencil in my initials on the mat. He said "No problem." I have been going to Kensington Framing and Design for over 15 years (since 2008). I would say Jason's probably framed over 50 pieces for me, and it's always been a great experience. He has a good selection of frames and glass and a great eye for combining them with the work to be mounted. All of the work has been for my home, except for a few pieces I've given to friends or family as gifts. Generally, I bring in the piece, we talk about the frame type and color, he pulls out a few samples, maybe a few more...we compare them, settle on one, agree on the glass and then the date when they'll be ready. His prices are more than reasonable and (in my experience), if there's a problem such as a picture that is mounted loosely, he'll fix it with no questions asked. He's recently cut back to two days a week for service, but as long as the shop stays open I'll keep going to it. I recommend Jason to anyone who needs framing services, especially if the items has some special significance. read more

I used to have an unreasonable hatred for anything that needed to be framed. Before I wandered into Kesington Framing, I would do all of my framing at big box craft stores. My experiences usually included being told that all of the normal looking frame options were out of stock, arguing over coupons, running over sweet old ladies with my shopping cart (florescent lights make me into a crazy person), paying way more than I anticipated, waiting several weeks for my order, and then being thoroughly disappointed with the final product. I have now had four pieces framed at Kensington Framing in the last 2 months and I will never look back. Jason is always super helpful and friendly. I have been dumbstruck at how good the pieces look every single time. Not only does Jason do a fantastic job, but the turn around is crazy fast and the cost is extremely reasonable. read more

We've been going to Miller's Framing for generations -- my Mother before me and now my family. Fair warning -- this is the same building and shop, under new management and a new name. If you Google Miller's Framing to get their phone number, you will be met by an automated lady who "thinks" that an automotive repair shop is a better place to call. It's only by chance that I hit upon "Kensington Framing & Design" with a number that went through to a familiar voicemail. Since the new management, I'm still waiting on a job so I can't comment on the quality of the work yet, but Miller's Framing was always excellent -- remember, you typically get what you pay for. We loved Miller's Framing and have for years. PS: I just saw that it has been KFD since at least 2013! We moved from Chevy Chase, MD, to the District some years ago and don't get out to Kensington except for specific reasons so it's been a while! I have been driving by Kensington Framing & Design for a couple years and finally had an opportunity to get a print framed for a Christmas present this year. Haven't been treated this rudely in a long time. We wanted a simple frame for a print. The young man threw (yes, threw) a few frame options on the counter. My husband said one was OK. Works for me, said the clerk and started to write it up. I asked if they had metal frames. "They're in the back," he huffed. Well, we surely didn't want him to have to work for a living so we left. Kensington Framing is the best! I've been going there for more than 20 years. A few years ago I was worried when the managers and staff announced they were moving to another location. But then Jason took over, and it is even better than ever. I enjoy art, especially Japanese woodblocks, and occasionally come across some prints that need framing. It is important to me to get exactly the right frame. Jason has hundreds of frames and mats to choose from, in all styles, prices and colors. But as important as the selection is, I have found that I rely greatly on Jason's judgment and guidance. He can look at one of my prints for ten seconds, and then come up with some terrific suggestions. There is no high-pressure sales pitch, just a calm, friendly approach where he carefully takes the time to offer his ideas and discuss any concerns I may have. I go to Kensington Framing a few times every year, and plan to continue my association with them. He is a genuinely pleasant person, and very knowledgeable about his craft. His prices are fair and reasonable, and he has always gotten my prints back to me within a week. Each time I have dealt with this outfit I have been completely satisfied. My wife suggested that this writer have a flag that was with my Naval Special Ops unit near Moc Hoa, VN - that was frayed, bullet hoes about it, dirty in spots, but a very precious memory of my second combat tour. The flag was snatched off it's pole just as I was about to board the Huey in June of 69. It is most precious to me so I took it to Jason for framing. He did a wonderful job is not giving him enough credit. As it is large and unique the cost was to some perhaps high but for us esp. in seeing the finished product worth every dollar spent. It will hang in a prominent spot in our new home to be started building in June in the Chestertown, MD area. That he and his wife work so well as a team only complimented the final product. read more
