Despite the lack of recent tuning (4 years) and changes in humidity which affected our action on some keys, he was able to obtain tuning on a grand piano despite being flat -15 to 20 cents across the board, and retuned on many notes. The piano sounds great again. He brought all of his own equipment, and disinfected the area gently before and after service. He ran a HEPA filter air purifier next to the piano at the time of service. He used PPE and was careful to leave the house as clean as he found it. Kentaro was an absolute professional. He came and tuned/serviced a baby grand piano that was original purchased 53 years ago, in 1968, and that I had recently bought from a neighbor who hadn't had it tuned for several years. Kentaro arrived with several COVID-precautions including a HEPA air purifier that he ran the entire time he was here. He gave a clear estimate of what he thought the service would cost, and when he realized that the piano would need an additional repair, he waited to get authorization from me before proceeding. We had a little scheduling problems, he had some very legitimate conflicts he needed to take care of, he went way out of his way to give me other times and options which we both agreed on a new time that worked best for me. When he's on his way he sends you a link to an app that shows where he is on the map, pretty neat. He was here pretty much on the dot. My piano is probably 35 years old, and was way out of tune, and one key with a broken damper. He sets up and does a quick 10 minute evaluation before he starts the job, and gives you an assessment of the job ahead. In our case very old piano way out of pitch, he had to tune each and every key, he has some pretty cool diagnostic equipment to get each key on perfect pitch. And he thoroughly cleans the entire piano. After he's done tuning he plays the piano and goes up and down all keys to make sure everything thing is good. He felt bad about our scheduling issue and fixed a couple issues outside of the tuning that would normally be an extra fee. Kentaro is an expert and his detail in his work really shines through in the service performed. You won't regret hiring him. P.S. Over time I had noticed some issues during playing but I didn't know what specifically to ask for, and Kentaro did a very thorough job evaluating all aspects of the piano and then reviewing his plan of action was with me in detail before beginning. He was extremely clear with expectations and how complex the adjustments would be, and after only a few hours he was able to make great improvements in the tune as well as the regulation and touch. Kentaro is honestly a super hero in my opinion!! My 1 year old stuffed rice into our piano keys, lots of it. Several keys wouldn't even play, others would barely play and would get stuck. We left it like this for close to 2 years, dreading to find out how much it would cost to have the rice cleaned out and I truly believed the piano was trashed....Kentaro fixed it completely and for a price I could not believe. As a professional musician, I am particularly sensitive about how my 7ft Baldwin is treated and I was very happy with Kentaro's work. I had a recording session planned and noticed a couple of irritating clicks on a couple notes that would have been picked up by the recording so I was looking for a tuner who was also a technician. Kentaro responded promptly and arrived on time. His COVID precautions are exemplary and he even brought an air cleaner with him. Recognizing that the clicking issue would require some maintenance, he first tackled that issue and realized that he likely wouldn't have time to also fully tune the piano so he came back to do so a few days later, still in time for me to have a nicely tuned and click-free piano for the recording. The repair dampened the actual feel a bit but it is negligible and certainly better than it was prior to Kentaro's work. What impressed me most was Kentaro's honesty and integrity. He inadvertently slightly nicked a panel and made sure to take a picture of it and mention it. It was not noticeable but still so refreshing to have someone prepared to take responsibility for a mistake if needed. Overall, Kentaro is a consummate professional, a gentleman and a fine piano technician. I would certainly consider using his services in the future. The one thing that I did notice he did not do was vacuum the inside of the piano as it gets dusty. Not a big deal but would have been nice. He did wipe down all the keys when he removed the key bed. Wow, what a difference! My Yamaha baby grand sounds new, even though it is about 30 years old, tuned maybe 2-3 times max during that time... and had been exposed to prob the worst conditions ever! (cold, heat, humidity, smokers, etc). I was able to get it clean & shiny on the outside, but Kentaro is a total miracle worker for sound! I found him online & based on reviews decided to give him a try. He was booked out about 2 mos .. but put me on a waitlist & called me within a week! He spent the normal amount of time (about 2.5-3 hrs) cleaning & tuning the piano, & brought the pitch up by a bunch. Kentaro came to tune my piano yesterday. He was fantastic and professional. I have no idea how long it has been since my piano was serviced, I owned it for five years but was constantly moving so I hadn't had it tuned. Kentaro was able to come on fairly short notice and was able to tune and adjust the action on my piano for a very reasonable fee. He even sends a tracker so you can see where he is on his way to your house so you know exactly when he will arrive and who is coming into your house. Just got my piano tuned by Kentaro today, and we couldn't be happier with his work! we have a 4yo baby grand that had been sitting in the POD container for two months and survived a long move by not-so-professional movers. The foot pedals had been taken apart into small pieces prior to the move and could not be put back together. When we reached out to Kentaro, he responded within one hour and asked all the appropriate questions to provide an accurate quote. He arrived right on time (he even offered to come a little earlier in the morning because I had mentioned that I have a toddler who naps around noon time!) and took extra covid-19 precaution. He took his time to install the foot pedals back and finished tuning the piano in less than 3 hours! Before he left, he suggested we play the piano a lot within the first week of tuning, and if we find problems, give him a call and he will come back to fix. I had an old piano that was tuned half step flat - I know some people like that sound, but I didn't let my son use it because I want him to recognize standard tuning (particularly since he plays the violin and viola as well). Until now I wasn't sure if the piano would take modern tuning and I didn't want to risk breaking the strings, but after my wife threatened to throw it away if no one used it, it now plays wonderfully for the first time in 40 years.
