My son went here last year for tutoring for 8th grade. His grades definetly improved. He only went twice week. Their hours I believe is from 2:30pm to 7:30pm. They used to have Saturday hours. They also had a rewards system for the children and my son liked it that. I also appreciate the great communication between the owner and parent. We are disappointed with recent interaction with keoni tutoring. We were looking for tutoring for our daughter who is in high school and struggling in math. Early summer we contacted Keoni and they offered in person class. Teacher did not teach anything and gave some problems to solve and just watched. I was expecting to prepare for math for coming school year of High school so that our daughter is well ready. When I contacted Keoni they said they will start with new teacher soon and the start dates kept changing and also they seem confused with the start dates, By then school started and we didn't have tutor. We had paid earlier for the teacher that didn't work out and we paid the classes for new teacher as we wanted to give them second chance, which also didn't work out as the teacher didn't show up on the link provided. Now we are three months in school without tutor for our daughter. When we asked for refund, they said they will not refund. Overall experience was very hurtful for parents like us who really cared for our kid's future. We found another math tutor and has been working out very well for now. read more

My son and daughter have been attending KEONI for 9 months now. They have been working so patiently with my son. He does not like the subjects of reading and writing. Just recently my son told me that he feels more confident in his reading skills. The teachers at Keoni are wonderful in pushing progress and making the most out of every session. My nephews moved to New Haven Unified School District 2 weeks after school started and when I got involved, they were 2 months behind with homework assignments and in turn they didn't do well in class, especially the Freshman student. Fortunately I found KEONI! Within a month, he got caught up and his grades started to improve. We've been looking around for a tutor and did interviews on a few of them but we're not impressed with their program or the tutor itself. It's very "business-like" focusing more on their profits instead of the student. In searching through Yelp, I came across a place near our area called Keoni Learning Center. The next day, my daughter and I went to the place and spoke to Jessica. Immediately, we felt very comfortable with her explaining their program and their tutors/teachers and did a mini tour of the place. As I was explaining to Jessica my daughter's needs in Math, she was very receptive. She even offered a free tutoring session that same day so they can assess her skill level and also for my daughter to determine if this is the right place for her. After the free session, she recommended to try the twice per week session for now then assess later if more or less is needed. A day or two later, we signed up (this was back in Jan) and we just finished this month of June. Her math skills and techniques have improved and she tells me that the tutoring really helped a lot. She also said that she really liked the tutors and would go back to them again. So if we need tutoring again sometime in the future, I'd definitely would have no second thoughts signing up my daughter back at Keoni Learning Center. read more

I was a tutor at KEONI Learning and Assessment for about a year. Before getting hired to be a tutor at KEONI, Jessica, the owner of KEONI, interviews each applicant individually. In addition, she prepares an exam, that must be passed with a high score, to test the interviewee on their math, English, and writing skills. She also ensures that each tutor is well aware of KEONI's rules and her expectations of them as a tutor. Jessica takes her job very seriously and works hard to learn the strengths and weaknesses of every child she assesses. She then uses this information to create a program tailored to fit the need of each individual student. Jessica always pairs students with a tutor that she believes will be the most helpful. However, if Jessica, or a tutor, do not feel like a pairing is as effective as it should be, the student will be switched to a different tutor. Additionally, to ensure a session has been effective, she personally checks in with each tutor at the end of every session to get an idea of the amount of progress that has been made. Jessica deeply cares for all the students enrolled at KEONI and wants every student to succeed. I will definitely miss working for such an amazing company! read more

My daughter has been attending Keoni for almost a year and she finds her sessions to be both fun and encouraging. The after session summary report is very helpful as it provides detailed information on the topics covered in the class and on my kid's performance. I enrolled my 2nd grade niece to Keoni for reading fluency. Her teacher recommended that we do so since she is currently at early 1st grade level of reading and there's a small chance of grade retention. Jessica who is the director assessed her reading skills and agrees that she is behind and will need tutoring 3x-4x a week. We decided to go with 3x a week. It's been almost 3 months and so far, my niece is loving the curriculum. I'm also noticing a boost in her confidence and she's now wanting to read books on her own! Even her teacher noticed a change in her reading fluency and told me that if we keep this up, there won't be an intervention. Yes! One less thing to worry about! read more

We've recently enrolled our 2nd grader to this center after noticing his weakness in phonics.  We found Keoni on Yelp and decided to give it a try for a few reasons.  One, they're brand new and giving out promotional free sessions.  Heck, why not? Two, they provide 1on1 instruction as well as after school program. This is a great advantage for us because not only can they tutor 1on1 phonics, but I can also leave my son there for additional hours to help with other subjects.  Finally, the assessment director that assessed my son was able to recognize his weaknesses right away and the results were pretty spot on.  It has only been a month and we're already seeing progress in his reading. read more

I was a tutor at Keoni Learning for almost a year and calling it a job would be an understatement. Jessica and the management are extremely helpful and are always providing comments and tips to not only teach more effectively, but on how to approach each and every student's individual needs. That is very important in the progression of learning, and that is why each tutor is matched with a student; to maximize their learning. This tutoring place offers a wide variety of help from the reading/writing/vocab curriculum, to math assistance and homework help. All the tutors, although have their own students, work with each other in times of needed clarification on problems or advising along the way. A large number of students enjoy coming back because the tutors try to make each session as involved and fun as possible, while still emphasizing on the learning and academic aspects to get the job done. The tutors also give comments to each student they tutor which is uploaded for parents to see. This is a great tool utilized by parents because they are informed in each session about the progression, what was done in the session, and any challenges or advice that needs to be addressed. Lastly, this place is not just for elementary and middle school students. There are a good number of high school students that come for homework help or catch up on school classes, which all tutors are capable of assisting. Unlike many tutoring/ after school programs that I have been a part of and know of, the staff and management at Keoni truly cares for each student and the overall progress in their program. Seeing the confidence rise in each student is the reason why it became more of a job for me. I loved working at Keoni as a tutor. I started working in August 2017, and have worked on and off since then. Jessica was great with flexibility in tutoring since I went to college in a different state. I graduated University of Washington with a BS in chemical engineering. Before COVID, I tutored in person at Keoni with children of all ages and all subjects. Each session was an hour. When I asked to tutor during 2020, Jessica took me in and I started online tutoring due to COVID. The online tutoring platform is great and easy, Jessica was able to get me students fast, and I tutor on Zoom. Before Covid, the tutoring center was open Monday to Friday. After Covid, I was able to tutor students on the weekend with online tutoring. Jessica is a really great manager to work with and Keoni is a really fun place to work! We had a virtual holiday party in 2020, and an in person holiday party the previous years. The tutors are all friendly and we plan gifts and wish each other birthdays! I recommend working at Keoni, it's such a fun place to work and Jessica really makes it amazing. read more

We stumbled upon this center by chance. After getting lunch across the street one weekend, we stopped by the bakery next door and saw that Keoni was advertising some back to school promotion. We decided to stop in and sign my little brother up for free assessment. He's been through a handful of tutoring centers for math over the years and none of them really helped all that much. Just like in school, he would always lose interest in the programs and stop putting in any effort. My parents weren't really interested in spending any more money towards ineffective tutoring but since Keoni had a bunch of specials, we figured it was worth giving it a try if my brother was willing. To be honest, I think all he cared about were the incentives at first, but after attending a months worth of sessions, he still likes going! When we ask him how it is, he says that the tutor explains things well and doesn't try to rush him or grow impatient. He's familiar with the books they use (ready common core) since they're the same ones his school has used in the past, so I'm sure that helps. I think the most important difference is that Keoni emphasizes general comprehension vs. rote learning like the past tutoring centers we tried. I have high hopes for him if he can stay committed, especially since he'll be transitioning to junior high next year. Keoni has passed the first test, and if they can still keep his interest through the end of the year, I'll be even more impressed. read more

My daughter has been attending Keoni Learning for about 7 months and LOVES it! All the tutors are sweet and have tons of patience! Jessica is awesome and so easy to communicate with. She responds quick and answers any questions you may have. She also was very accommodating when it came to my daughter's Summer schedule. We found Keoni one day on a Sunday stroll around the area and figured we'd check them out for my daughter, especially since good tutors are hard to find. It has turned out to be a GREAT find! My daughter needed help with reading and math, especially, and they have definitely helped her! Her grades are up and, most importantly, her comprehension and ability are getting better all the time. Jessica (the owner) and Lauren (one of the instructors) have been amazing and my daughter really likes them and likes going for her sessions. Crazy, right?! One more thing we definitely appreciated was when setting up my daughter's schedule, Jessica recommended 3 days a week but we decided we'd go for 2 days a week to start and go from there and they didn't try to push the extra day on us...gave us a good feeling that it wasn't all about making the sale. This review for the Union City branch, but I am in the process of transferring my son to the Newark location since it is a little closer to me. I live in South Fremont, and it is worth the drive because Jessica and her team are just simply the BEST of the BEST. Jessica and her team put the CHILDREN FIRST. They are passionate with providing a better learning experience for the children. Jessica also has years of experience before Keoni, and she just "knew" what my son needed after meeting and performing an assessment test on him. Before enrolling my son in the program, I was extremely stressed out when I was told by his teacher that my son was not at par with his reading and writing skills, compared to other children in his grade. My son loves the program, and after seeing his own improvements and progress, he was even more motivated. After one month in the program, I saw a drastic improvement in my son's reading skills, and then eventually the spelling skills followed. After 3 months in the program, the teacher officially confirmed to me that he is back on track.
