Daniel Paletz has been our attorney for the past year out of the 7 years I've had to rely on relief from the family court. In that one year, he accomplished more than had been accomplished by our previous attorney in the six years she represented us. The first time I knew of Daniel, we were in court (being represented by our previous attorney). His clients case was called before ours and we were SO impressed with his ability to command the proceedings, while still giving all due respect to the court. My dad and my current husband got his card that day, without knowing the other had asked. Daniel is an AMAZING litigator, when we needed to litigate, but was able to successfully negotiate several issues before we even stood in front of our judge. This law firm is so good. Each time we've been to Court (and it's been a 4 year case) my lawyer is prepared and handily beats the other side. They have extremely reasonable fees and try to minimize your billings. Often, my lawyer will say, "Well we could do THIS, but it will just cost you money and not get you what you want in the end." My ex is an attorney driven to cause conflict even after the divorce had been done, using finances and the children in a desperate attempt to "win". My original attorney and I had hoped that the constant RFOs would cease once the divorce was done, but if anything, that just ramped up the litigant drive of my ex. Once the ongoing conflict was understood, my first attorney suggested that I needed an attorney who would be able to not only be ready to compromise, communicate and mediate as he was, but also be ready to fight. That attorney is Daniel Paletz. In the face of lies and misrepresentation from my ex, along with a false report to DCFS, the judge was predisposed to believe her story and reduce my time with the children. Daniel advocated like a champ and was able to get a PPA2 ordered. The PPA2, in conjunction with a finding of the DCFS report as 'Unfounded' resulted in a continued 50/50 custody arrangement. Daniel worked with me personally, putting in the time, making sure that I understood how to explain the situation to the Evaluator in the language that they would understand. My ex's plan may have been successful if it were not for his understanding of how to navigate the legal system - I had no clue as to what to do. I usually don't write reviews, but in this case I want to make sure I really help out others who are diligently looking for a faithful, honest and a decent Lawyer. My experience with Daniel was totally opposite to what you would look for/hope for in a lawyer. He along with his staff is VERY INCOMPETENT! First, he promised to me that he will be in the court on the date of the court, so listen this; he called me like 10 min before the hearing that he will not be there as there is another urgent case that's needed his attention. How preposterous is that? Second, he tells me that his assistant, who also is a fresh graduate out of college, will be able to handle my case. She was a total mess and couldn't handle it. On top of that his assistant was billing me like crazy that only after I warned Daniel that I will take him to court, he pulled the amount out of my invoice. Last, I found him very in competent that he couldn't get a single judgment in my favor, instead tried to rationalize with me. Not even a good visitation rights. He was just so incompetent that he couldn't advise me on the best possible options for me. I ended up firing him and hired a NEW lawyer. This office will try to lure you into its LOW HOURLY FEE strategy, but beware!! You get what you paid for. Ask yourself why an attorney would have a low hourly fee compared to any other good attorney in the Market. If still you want to hire this cheapo, then go ahead. But you have been warned! Under Promises, Over Delivers My son wanted to move in with me. We needed a ruling before he started school in the fall, six months. This is impossible to do with a slow court system. Originally my case was with Lauren, one of the less expensive attorneys at this firm. Unfortunately she had an accident and was unable represent me in court. Daniel, the full partner, called me and told me that he would be representing me. I worried because I felt in that Lauren was on top of case. She is sharp and managed to get a court date that I thought impossible. My first surprise with Daniel was that he would be charging me at Lauren's significantly lower rate. The judge in my case was going to request an evaluation with my son. Doing this would have prolonged my case months after my original court date. On the morning of my court date Daniel was able to find minor's counsel to represent my son and get the other side to agree. My second surprise with Daniel was that the judge on my case accepted the minor's counsel in lieu of an evaluation. The judge ruled in my favor on my first court appearance. Over the years I have become hardened and distrust lawyers. Daniel told me that he is selective of his cases and only takes the ones that should be fought. I thought ya right. Daniel told me that I had a good chance of losing my case. Other firms told me that I had the highest chances of winning. After spending lunch with him I truly believe he is decent person. Every week the partners take the entire staff out to lunch just to bond and catch up. In one of these lunches someone mentioned that they should every have a company Starbucks card. Now the entire staff has free coffee from the Starbucks next to their office. Several times Daniel said bless you to people sneezing nearby that day. After spending the day with Daniel, I truly believe that he cares and will tell you like it is. He will not tell you what you want to hear just to make a buck. I just got my divorce, after going through hell my X put me through what should have been a simple case and done after 6 months dragged on and on with another attorney. Daniel Paletz was recommended to me and was nice enough to give me an hour of free time to discuss my case. He was very sharp and knew what he was talking about, so I switched attorneys. He was honest and kind, and knew I was a teacher and tried to have others in his firm handle my case at lower rates until he was needed. He and Mrs. Patsy Barron who also handled my case couldn't have been nicer and always put me at ease. As anyone going through a divorce knows it can bring out the ugly in you, you didn't know you had! The three most important things for me were not to have to pay spousal support and keep my pension, and avoid a costly trial. Daniel in his brilliance was able to do all of it! Over-bills and Under-delivers. Daniel Paletz has had many chances to make corrections on the mishandling of my case. He first of all did basically one good thing the whole case, and then it all went downhill and cost me thousands! that did not account for the only one day of good work. He left a first year attorney in charge of my case and he personally told me that he would be overseeing it but that she would be cheaper costs for me this way. My case was much too complicated and he didn't end up overseeing it and I was severely over charged, even when it was their mistakes that cost me thousands for other attorneys I had to go to to straighten it out. Other attorneys I spoke to said Dan overbills. It's a shame, bc that one day I could have given him a tremendous review but then he ruins it in every other way, which cancels out the one good thing he did, because the other issues of over billing, mistreatment of how he speaks to you in a berating better than thou manner, and the mishandling of my case that became a giant mess because he left a rookie in charge and didn't oversee it as he said he would, many mistakes at my expense came about. He even tried telling me facts about my case yelling at me on the phone that weren't even facts about my case! I know another person who got wind of Daniel through Internet searching and told me they found an attorney but they didn't like how Daniel spoke to her...and I said wait a minute, Daniel who? And discovered she encountered a similar situation and was treated poorly by Daniel. She didn't continue with him. That was just on an inquiry he talked to her badly. I have read other reviews that have since been taken down on here that were EXTREMELY similar to my situation involving Dan and the 1st year attorney they used to have, who has since left or gotten fired, I never knew, she was just gone suddenly and no one would say why...right in the midst of my case that a mess had been created and Dan didn't offer to straighten out the mishandling, he only denied it. WOW. Every attorney that looked at it was horrified at what had happened. And said I have definitely issues to take to the bar. He even told me to pick up my files and he wouldn't charge me for it and filing for sub of attorney and sure enough, it was on the final bill, like thousands was added to the end bill for a mess and they wouldn't fix it and for me to leave to sub out. One was even billing me thousands after she filed the wrong thing, I sat there in court and heard the judge tell her...and that was that, not my fault she filed the wrong thing, and they billed me for that and Dan denied it to be corrected. That's just one thing. So many others, including her making an agreement on what I agreed on but didn't look over the papers thoroughly and letting the other attorney who was super unethical, handle the papers alone and then information was changed or she didn't read it right and it was very little writing, couple of short paragraphs. That cost me THOUSANDS to deal with. And Dan didn't agree to fix it. Just another example. Then he said he'd lower the bill and wouldn't meet with me to discuss, nor would I get calls returned...and he wouldn't do the deal over email. And he yelled at me on the phone, so I only wanted to deal with him with a witness with me or in writing. Then he emailed he'd only lower the bill if I agreed to a payment plan...who agrees to a payment plan not know what the bill is?! I'm sure he wouldn't! read more

Caution! Beware! Promises are many results are few and expensive. I was told I was getting a bargain with their low hourly rate. I learned an expensive lesson, the billings were outrageous and unjustified. It ended up costing much more that an attorney charging standard rates. My attorney talked me into challenging many things that could have been inexpensively resolved between my husband and I. Hard feeling were unnecessarily created with their agressive tactics. If you can get Daniel to be your lawyer (he's in demand) you are in good hands. Not only does he know his stuff but he has the experience. So many times you will want to have an opinion of how something will likely play out in court - he's the guy to ask, he will know the answer. If I could give negative stars I would!!! I have had the worst experience with this firm, especially Daniel Paletz. We have been given the run around for almost 2 years and our divorce still isn't filed and complete. They have lost my paperwork on numerous occasions, not returned calls, called me by the wrong name several times, and Daniel's condescending attitude. At one point he actually told me that law firms are like triage and they take care of the more important cases first...strangely that wa never mentioned when we paid in full $3000!!! Beware of any business that asks you to pay in full up front before completing the service. When I began trying to chase down Daniel another gem he told me was "I don't see what the urgency is unless your planning to get married"!!! He was rude and completely unapologetic about his careless unprofessionalism. He gives true meaning to the word shyster..."professionally unscrupulous in his practice if law". read more
