I have been able to get into the office when sick and had good experiences. However, I was…read morestarting my GLP journey (4 months of build up on dosage). I was sent a text to bloodwork but couldn't because of travel for work. I called in that Monday to explain the situation, ask for my next dosage and schedule an appt the following week to get bloodwork done. However, Thursday came and no prescription was done (it takes a couple of days for the pharmacy here to get meds). They finally prescribed the new GLP but the dosage was the same and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I called the team, told them about my experience and was never contacted by the team - it has been a week or more. They are a very busy office but doctors/team should still be professional and care about patient experience...not to mention that the reason for GLP use is also to prevent stroke, diabetes and other issues.....shameful.

I was a patient here many years and didn't have any major problems until the nurse (not sure of her…read moreexact title), got my mother's (who was fighting Parkinson's at the time), and my blood work mixed up, which led to them calling my mother in to the er for blood work because her white count was high. We went to our appts at the same time, same room. My white count is always high because of a blood disorder I have. I knew that's what happened as soon as my mom told me they had her go to the hospital. That was very upsetting, because I knew it took a lot out of her to make that journey. I told the office manager about it and it was like, that happens???? I told them I never wanted her to care for my mother or I ever again. Give us somebody else. Unfortunately, we still ended up with her a few times. I switched to Medicare when I turned 62, and was sold an Advantage Plan. I told them about it, they said they'd get signed up since I'd been going there so long. I went in for a well check, can't remember if I pd a co-pay or not. Then, it was time for a med check, I made the appt., started driving to my appt., which is 80 miles round trip, they called me while I was on my way and told me not to come, unless I pd cash??? They said they'd insurance kept asking them for more paperwork and they didn't pay for my last appt., so unless I wanted to pay cash not to come! I said I'm over halfway there and I need my meds refilled, they said sorry, they weren't taking my insurance. I went back home, I was pretty much out of meds, there were some waiting at the pharmacy, but they pulled them back and wouldn't let me have them. These were not the kind of meds you cold turkey, you're supposed to titrate them. They left me with NOTHING. I called my insurance and had the office manager on the phone as well, trying to figure out what paperwork they still needed. During the phone call, the insurance company told me the dr.'s office manager had hung up! I couldn't believe it! This was serious, going without meds, after I'd been on them over 35 years and she just hung up! No one from this office ever called me to follow up, ask how bi was doing, nothing! I ended up in the er, hadn't slept in almost a week, just 30 min a night, my fibromyalgia pain was bad, and I started hallucinating. To this day, after going there, I think almost 15 years, this was how much they cared. THEY ABANDONED ME.

If you haven't spent much time with doctors, or had surgery yourself or long stays at a hospital (as a patient or visiting someone), it can be overwhelming. My first real experience with Medical City McKinney was several years ago, when I spent weeks there with my elderly father. He went from the ER to PCU, then home with hospice, and passed away from heart failure. It was a complicated situation, but looking back, I'm deeply grateful for the compassionate care he received at Medical City McKinney. I met the CEO in the elevator who actually cared and personally escalated my case (he didn't have to do that). Four years later, returned for surgery. The experience was smooth from start to finish, from pre-op, to post-op, to getting discharged and heading out the door, every single patient care person I met was kind, professional, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do. Bonus! Honestly, I'm not sure what to think about the negative reviews. Definitely take into account each experience is based on specific situations, and whether you are a patient, caretaker or visitor. I recommend you make a decision based on your specific situation. Good Luck.
