Staff are nice and friendly BUT: they do not know what they are doing! Brought my car in with an AX-15 manual transmission leak to evaluate! Told Mike "upfront" that the skid plate was installed with 7/16x20 (Fine Thread) bolts into the unibody frame and could easily be stripped if not carefull should they have to remove the plate. There was a nice gentleman/customer seated with a beautiful black lab/shepard mix having his Honda serviced while I informed Mike. They stripped two of the three bolt holes and just drove bigger bolts into the frame, no drill and tap, just drove the bolts in cross threaded, which barely held the 50 pound plate on. I know this for sure because I installed the three grade 8 ,7/16x20 myself weeks before. Those were not there when I got home. Could have lost this plate on highway injuring or killing someone. Second, I asked to have the transmission topped off before picking up, asked again to confirm at shop and Mike went out and confirmed that the transmission was full. Drove 3 miles to my daughter's house and checked-2 quarts low, AX-15 holds 3.7 quarts, just as I had brought it in after 800 mile trip. It did not leak 2 quarts in 3 miles! Trust is not what you should have when using this business!!!! Take care! This is why we are all hesitant to seek out a mechanic for our cars, we can only rely on ourselves to do it right. I was 800 miles from home and took the risk of trusting this shop in Ketchum. Big, big mistake on my part. I am 73 years old. I have overhauled, built, and repaired cars since auto shop in high school! Spent a few years servicing and maintaining Waukesha natural gas engines too, 1905 to 5108 cubic inches. Quick internet search suggested it could be a couple of minor issues (loose gas cap, O2 sensor issues). But of course you never know, so I took it to Ketchum Automotive. Mike agreed to take a quick look at it and check out the codes to see what was going on. 2 hours later I was good to go as Mike uncovered the cause of the code (loose gas cap). It's really great to find an honest auto-repair guy. There area so many opportunities to take advantage of the uninformed. Brought in my jeep to put on the snow tires and get an oil change. When I return to pick up the vehicle at the designated time they told me they accidentally confused mine with another vehicle. I had to leave it overnight and pick it up the next day. I was deeply disturbed that not one employee wore masks in the midst of a raging local pandemic. Please don't support this business. I took my wife's car in because her gas gauge didn't work. It took them 4 weeks to replace a sensor, I was given 3 different excuses each week. After the repair we noticed a gas smell every time we refuled. We took the car back told them our problem, they said they couldn't find anything wrong. Took our car to another shop they found the problem. A seal had been improperly reassemble and was somehow dirty with other rocks and debris. They were extremely professional and told me without disrespecting another Mechanics work this is what was the problem. What if this caused a fire I have a 6 year old who rides right on top of the gas tank in the back seat. read more

Such a disappointment and frustration. Left my Ford Focus for what they said was thermostat repair. They ultimately deemed it needed a water pump as well(which I did not know about until I picked it up...no one called to tell me of the additional repair need...but ok..it needed it). It was there for one week. $550. On pick up the car battery was dead.... They handed me a portable jump to go jump it myself. I drove literally one block down Main Street, the car died and then proceeded to spill fluid everywhere. I walked back and told Mike the issue and that the car was parked on the street and could they go get it. I did not have the ability to jump it myself. (As it was dead again) Mike agreed. Day 2, of course they don't answer phone so I politely go back in and ask them to bring the car in they said they were on it. They were going to " get on someone" for this. Spoke to Mike. Day 3, the car now has an impound notice. I take the impound notice to them and again, Mike said he'd get it. It's now Saturday, the place is closed for the weekend, and the car is still on the street. They have my keys. I understand being busy, and one off failed repairs, but charging someone for either a failed repair or non repair and abandoning the vehicle and no apparent alternatives is just poor work and business. I brought this car in for spark plugs to be changed. After that the car was skipping at low idle and I brought it back in with an appointment. When I arrived for the appointment I was told I didn't have an appointment until next week. This is despite the fact that I had stopped in two days earlier and they said I needed to wait for my appointment today. So basically it felt like they were busy and blowing me off. So I just asked if he could answer a couple questions such as .... would driving the car with this problem hurt the engine? Also could this skipping be associated with the spark plug change completed a couple of weeks ago? He said yes it could if they previously installed a bad spark plug but did not have time to look at it. He went back and forth about whether driving the car could cause irreparable damage to the engine. So we got no information of value. And we are feeling abandoned on this matter. The only reason this place is still in business is because of the convenience factor in our small town. I have never had a worse experience anywhere than going here. The man in charge lied to me on multiple occasions and then kept lying knowing he didn't know how to fix my car. They didn't even do an air filter change correctly. The owner of this business is no longer present for the day to day and has someone named Spencer in charge of things. Spencer is down right the worst. I went to Ketchum auto with my mother and stepfather and the mechanic there had a hard time diagnosing the problem with my vehicle. This should have been my first red flag. Upon further inspection they told my stepfather that I needed to replace one of my boot axels because there was a leak and that would fix the rattling noise my car was making. I had them replace it and when I went to pick up my vehicle I asked "is the rattling noise gone". He said "no it's not we just replaced the axel boot because that was messed up I don't know why your car is rattling it's probably one of the shocks". First of all needing 1 new shock couldn't cause a car to rattle. Anyone who knows anything about cars would know this. After receiving a $600 bill I was confused that the reason I brought my car in wasn't handled. Spencer then accused my whole family of "hearing him wrong" and saying he never said he could fix the rattling noise, but if I wanted them to replace the shocks it might make it stop. He then started accusing me of making up everything he had told me in our prior meeting. When I got upset he tried telling me he only offered to fix the boot axel because he's a good person??? It was the most confusing experience of my life and an absolute waste of time and money. He ended up raising his voice at me in front of a child in the shop at the time and proceeding to talk very poorly about the owner of the shop and his personal relationships. I don't understand how this person is in a position of authority it's actually sad for Ketchum Auto. My car was finished for a day and a half without them calling me to tell me to pick it up. I had to call them and Spencer told me "I figured you knew it would be finished." What in the world?????? Whatever you do, DO NOT GO HERE. They will lie to you and rip you off.. read more
