Cracks in walls and tiles, dirty carpet, hairs on the bed, drawers that won't stay closed, windows that won't stay open. The second room was not as bad, but had pieces missing on the old blinds, and broken windows with tape holding them together. This once impressive building has fallen into a state of disrepair and is desperate for some TLC. Nice buffet breakfast, staff was friendly, but ill informed on the history of the building.

My husband and I stayed there the week before last on a recent trip to Rugby. It was one of the most romantic places I have ever stayed, but also a little creepy. Room 45's door to the closet room (which you must walk through to get to the bathroom) closed all by itself about an hour after we settled in, and loudly too. It could be that the building is not level, but still, it was weird. Then a couple days later we were sitting in the lobby and the door to the grandfather clock just swung open by itself. Again, probably a leveling issue, but still weird. We stayed in two different rooms, the first was room 45 (in the stables). The WiFi was not good in this room so we had to move to room 34 the next day. Reception was incredibly helpful. They immediately fulfilled our every request. Here are the pros and cons that I noticed during my stay. Cons 1) There are spiders everywhere. It must be an absolute nightmare for housekeeping to try to keep up with all the spiders. Whenever I encounter a spider inside, I typically catch it and let it outside, but being on vacation and not wanting to worry about spending our precious time doing this over and over again, we just killed them. I killed 7 and my husband killed 10. They were in almost every corner, behind both toilettes, in the hallway, and above the shower. I feel very guilty killing all of these wonderful little creatures, but nothing freaks me out more then feeling insects crawling on me as I am trying to go to sleep. 2) It appears that the carpet in both rooms has not been updated since Brownsover Hall was converted into a hotel in the 1970's. It grossed me out a little to think of everything that has happened on these carpets. 3) Privacy was a major issue because there were no sheer curtains to let natural light in while keeping our room and its contents private. The curtains, also from the 1970's (or earlier) are very heavy, torn, and difficult to maneuver. 4) There were not enough towels or toilette paper in either of the rooms. We had to ask for more. Pros 1) The staff is excellent and fulfilled all of our requests. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. It really made our stay a pleasant one. 2) The grounds are absolutely gorgeous . The variety of plants is really incredible and the lawns are so well kept. The scene makes for the most romantic walks. My husband and I walked from the hotel to the nature preserve on a beautiful fall day (see pics). When we crossed the canal bridge it was like stepping back in time. Once you are inside the gate of the nature preserve, you can walk along a beautiful path, lined with rose bushes, berries and mint. Magical. 3) The closets and bathrooms in both rooms have been recently renovated. They were very nice and both bathrooms had bathtubs, which I appreciated. There is nothing like a nice hot bath after a long day exploring a new place. 4) The food was incredibly delicious. I especially liked the pumpkin soup and salmon. The presentation was great and so was the service. I felt like I was eating in a five star restaurant. The owners of this hotel may not be interested in renovating guest rooms unless absolutely necessary, but it would be nice if they did because they could do a lot more business with some modernization and some simple aesthetic improvements. Their guests would be more comfortable as well. My recommendations for improvement to this hotel are the following... just incase management is reading this and wants feedback. 1) Mitigate the spider issue using a nontoxic method and take preventative measures to prevent more spiders from coming in. 2) Renovate the rooms by adding sheer curtains for privacy and some sort of hard floor. There are also too many walls that are blank. At times I felt like I was staying in a renovated warehouse. It would be nice if for example, there was a painting of horses in the stable rooms. The rooms could definitely use a theme. 3) Make 4 large towels, 2 hand towels and 2 full rolls of toilette paper standard for every bathroom. Staying here was one of the highlights of our vacation in England. I will definitely be staying here again and would recommend it to anyone who has an appreciation for historical places.

Often, it's noisy nearby the gym because the door gets slammed a lot at night for some reason. - Surrounding: nothing much surrounded. If you drive, Highway is right next to the hotel so it's convenient. Closest restaurant or pub is about 30 min on foot so I suggest you take a taxi (About 8-10 pounds one way) to town center for shopping or dining. - Restaurant: Excellent. Breakfast offers full hot/cold breakfast including fried egg/poached egg/scrambled egg and potatoes, beans, various kinds of bread, yogurt, fruits, cheese, cold meats, pastries and cereals. I didn't try lunch but at dinner, daily special 17pounds for 2 course or 21 pounds for 3 course. I thought all dishes were excellent. On tuesdays and wednsedays, you can get buffet offering 4-5 main dishes and desserts for $17 (include steak) or $15 (international food theme). Don't miss buffet. It's very worth it. Internet is 15 pounds for 24 hrs or 75 pounds for 1 week but this is standard for most hotels in UK. PS: No business center or hilton honor lounge...

This is a fairly typical Hilton, with large reception area with café, bar and restaurant. When I was there mid-week the restaurant was serving a Chinese buffet which although it was tasty and looked like Chinese food, didn't particularly taste Chinese. There are some good sized meeting rooms if you are planning a wedding or a business meeting, and a Health Club with gym, aerobics, Jacuzzi, sauna and massage. The hotel room was better than average: it was a good size, comfortable with a sofa, desk and a 32 flat-screen TV and a good selection of channels. There is a large pay car park, but the charge for this was included in my room rate.

Fawsley Hall Hotel is lovely. We stayed in Room 4 for our first wedding anniversary and we had a…read morefabulous time. This hotel is one of the 'Handpicked Hotels' collection of hotels. We've stayed in Rhinefield House Hotel in the New Forest, so I get email deals from them with special offers. We hadn't made any plans for our anniversary and an email popped up in my inbox offering a discount and a breakfast and dinner deal, so I booked. We got a double deluxe room, breakfast, and a 3-course meal included. I received a phone call a few days before our arrival to confirm the details and I was asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, which we were, so the lady on the phone put this on the computer, which was nice. When we arrived to check in (15:00) we were very warmly welcomed and congratulated on our anniversary, which was a nice touch. Our luggage was taken to our room (up a couple of stairs) and we were shown to a very pretty room, with a nice view of the lake (and sheep). We had an uber big bed, a writing desk, some armchairs, a huge TV, a bath, shower, beautiful citrus scented toiletries, tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities, minibar with free water and milk, and nice fluffy towels. After checking in we checked out the hotel bar, looking for a pot of tea. We decided in the end to get some virgin cocktails, because they looked to tasty. The hotel let you charge things to the room, so the process was super easy. The bar was well stocked with family games, so we had a few rounds of a memory game, along with our free glasses of 'welcome sparkling wine'. I noticed in the room guide that they have a cinema on site, which was a really exciting thought, so we moved our dinner reservation forward a couple of hours (which was really easy and the staff were really accommodating) so that we could make the 21:30 showing of The Woman in Black. The cinema was lovely; 28 seats (proper cinema seats) and we were allowed to take a drink in from the bar. We were the only people in the cinema, which was nice. A member of staff showed us how to use the volume controls and left us to it. Our food was great - we had a 3 course meal deal with our room, so we had to pick from a set menu (there was the option when I booked to upgrade to a la carte, but I quite having to choose from a set menu sometimes). We had pickled mackerel and chicken liver parfait with brioche toast for starters and for mains we had roasted belly pork (10/10) and corn fed chicken with garlic mash (07/10). For dessert we had lemon posset and toffee panna cotta. Our desserts were kindly rushed through so that we could go to the cinema on time, which was really nice. When we went back to our room we found that we had been left a fruit bowl, a wonderful handwritten card, and a box of beautiful truffles as a gift for our anniversary, which was really appreciated. It's these touches that made our stay really special. Our room had both a bath and a waterfall shower, which was great. I could have showered for hours. The only problem being that the shower was really small (in a corner), but it didn't stop me enjoying it. One of the things that we loved about our room was that it was really quite. We heard no noise from anywhere else in the hotel. There wasn't even the usual humming/clicking/banging noises that you get in hotel rooms; it was silent. We had a continental breakfast included in our deal, so we got some lovely things delivered to our room - a full english breakfast, fresh coffee, orange juice, and croissants. Everything was perfect. There are also full spa facilities, which we didn't use. They also offer a 'yoga bag' and 'gym bag' for working out in your room - these services are complementary. The surrounding are beautiful - there are lakes, sheep, wildflowers, and trees. The house is surrounded by 2,000 acres of land. Top bits: The staff - so, so friendly and welcoming. The tea/coffee/hot chocolate/biscuit selection in the room. Breakfast. Sherbert lemons in reception. Nice chocolates. Really comfy beds. Games in the bar. FREE CINEMA. USB phone charger socket. Bluetooth music facility. The food. Free WIFI. Not so great bits: Paying £3 to get room service. Paying 100% service charge on soft drinks with our dinner. Bathroom was a bit odd - the toilet was hard to flush, the shower tiny, and the door hit the toilet every time you let it go. (All of these things are not terrible - just little things and did not make our stay any less enjoyable).
