Food was good, service so so. Our waitress had a little attitude. Not friendly at all. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. We had plenty to eat and our bill for two was less than 25 including tip. Great ambiance but we got stuck sitting where we really did not want to sit and server was not accommodating when she could have been. It put a bit of a damper on the evening. This is one of the few golf courses on the Keweenaw, so you'll see a lot of the retirees out playing a few rounds. If you are looking for a good place to eat, don't bother stopping in for the buffet. It's not very good, and from what I hear, it's currently $25. read more

The service more than anything was poor. Our waitress told us that she was waiting for a manager to take a beer off the bill while we were clearly watching her smoke outside. In the meantime our water glasses and iced tea all went dry. There was no offer for dessert just brought our bill. I would avoid this place. I had the chicken carbonara. Stayed here for nostalgia, as a family member remembered it from the 1970s. Would not stay here again. In a nutshell: adequate, clean room, but amenities lacking for the price. We paid $150, including taxes, in late June for one night and were expecting a lot more for the money. Pros: quiet, serene setting. Quaint 1930s lodge. Complaints: No breakfast at the lodge. Mattresses too firm. Primitive shower spray head - almost painful. Only one regular coffee packet No fridge, no microwave. TV was tiny and picture quality was poor. Overall not a bad place. Must be a reflection of a seasonal touristy spot. read more

Came here for a drink. Service was welcoming, but stressed. The atmosphere was wonderful minus the yuppies wearing their best Calvin Klein flannels. The taps were pretty good and the old fashion made perfectly. No real complaints, but my girlfriend and I didn't eat here, either. read more

Just ate brunch here, AWFUL! No hostess. Girl told us it was self serve. Most food pans were almost empty. Had to ask a busboy for water and coffee. $40 for 3 people! Do not come here! read more

We spent some time in Copper Harbor this weekend and we were looking for a place to eat lunch as we headed out of town. It had been some time since we went to the Mountain Lodge for food (Back when they we still open in the winter) but I thought we would give it a try. This place has a lot of history, the story behind how it was built is really cool. The grounds are very nice, very well kept, and it is a pleasant drive from the main road up to the restaurant. There are even nice views of Brockway in the distance. The staff was very nice, the restaurant was clean (A bit Dark inside though), we had our kids with us (5 yrs and 6 month old) and they were super accommodating. It took a little time to get our food but it was very good, and the portions were good as well......Leftovers for later! We would definitely visit here again. I know they are working on reviving the Mountain Lodge, and with such a rich history and beautiful grounds I hope they are successful well into the future. Just from our lunch visit there this past weekend I know they are on the right path, keep up the great work! read more

The price has climbed steadily over the past few years... beyond what the stay is worth in comparables. The cabins are nice, but have not kept up with what is offered in other vacation areas... thus my price comment. At one time the Lodge offered specials, for example: stay three nights & get one extra night free or a per cent discount for early season reservations... these are a thing of the past! Double check the area, you can find a better deal for your hard earned money. read more

This resort is absolutely stunning, set in the back mountain area of the Copper Harbor. The cabins are simply beautiful and relaxing. The golf course is crying shame, it had so much potential, but they never completed it. The food at the restaurant, is no better than Kaleva's in Hancock or Slims near Mohawk, The chef is nothing more than a glorified line cook. Lacking the fundamental skills of basic classical techniques and flavor profiling. Just because an individual slaps a high dollar sign on a menu, doesn't mean it's worth its value. read more

There is no longer a restaurant. Brochure says restaurant opens at 8 for breakfast. Not true! Only later with pub food. Nothing unusual just burgers, pizza, etc. Be prepared you are out of town and need to bring something to eat in the morning or run into town for breakfast. Would like the website to say this. Second day I knew to buy some food at grocery store in town but no refrigerators or microwaves in cabins so no way to keep anything cold. Seems more like just a golf course and bar. Cabins okay but yes they are old log cabins. Just feels like it is headed downhill. We did eat at the bar one night and the food was very good. 2 of us stayed at "the lodge" in late July '14...Bad News. Expensive and not worth it. Ate an overpriced, but good dinner in the entirely empty dining room. Went to Cabin 10, assigned by the mostly uninformed desk employee. Knew something was wrong when the "neighbor's dog was running around, barking, and defecating on the grass outside our door. Calls to their desk go unanswered and unreturned. Basically, management/owners appear to be "harvesting" the property...no improvements for years, little up keep, lots wrong, s.a. Sticking cheap doors, bad showers(shower head fell off during shower), flickering mercury vapor light in front keeping guest awake...etc, etc. All this was bad enough, but the rude drunkin golfers parking their carts in our space was the final straw...I don't golf anymore, but I bet the course looked equally as bad. This is simply a case of their marketing associates trying to keep a dream alive. Too bad, 'cause the UP has suffered enough. No more trips to "The lodge" for us. read more

This review is only for the restaurant. This building has a fantastic atmosphere. It feels like all of the great log buildings built at National and State Parks, from the Adirondacks to Yellowstone. The history of the building is interesting as well, and told through many photos and signs both inside and outside the building. It was built during the Depression to give the out of work miners something to do. The location is also lovely, up on top of a hill. You would think that the views would be impressive, but they are mostly of the golf course. (It's at least green and open.) When we visited in the middle of September for lunch, the place was very slow. The waitress and hostess and bartender that we saw were pleasant and welcoming. The menu had a good selection of what I call American food. My husband tried the sandwich that had mac n cheese right on it, between the bread. Because, why not? I had the whitefish and a huge side of fries. We were seated per our choice in the room with the large stone fireplace. I would love to come back here and hang out at the picturesque bar with some friends and adult beverages. Atmosphere can do a lot...and this place has it in spades. read more

We had a nice 3 day stay at the lodge. lots of pluses and minuses for the property. Our original cabin assignment was next door to a packed house with unattended barking dogs. The manager moved us with no problems. Our cabin was a cabin. Furnishings were tired to say the least, but the place was clean and functional. We ended up in a quiet corner and were very happy with that. I could see how noisy neighbors could really ruin your stay. (please don't be one of THOSE neighbors!). We had one dinner in the lodge; my lake trout was fantastic. My wife's pork loin was well flavored, but must have been waiting for mine to cook, because it came out cold, which really made it mediocre at best. My wife didn't eat it. Service was awful. I guess they were short staffed and had to call in one of their events waitresses to wait the tables. She did the best she could, but it was rough. Overall, I just didn't see much of a give a shit about service in the dining room as I would have expected to see. This was really a mixed bag. Dinner was a 5 star and a 2 star. Cabin was 5 star, furnishings 2 star, with a 1 star for noise and a 4 stars for quaintness, 5 for cleanliness. Also, this IS NOT on the harbor, it is a few miles into the woods and away from the lake, BUT, this is where I would stay on my next visit, as it seemed to have the best curb appeal of anyplace we saw in copper harbor. read more

Decent food but not a destination for me. It has great views that make it worth visiting and if you came to play golf then eat afterward, it's fine. I had the grilled mac & cheese sandwich which was okay but much improved when I added hot sauce. My wife had the burger which was pretty good. read more

Hard to decide what was worse - the inedible, overpriced burnt hamburger - or - the service provided by a waitress who managed to prove that 1 table was too much to take care of. I wondered how they managed to stay in business - then I saw the sign out front - the place is owned by the county. It is stuff like this that gives socialism a bad name. Just say no. read more
