I had a very disappointing experience with this company for a full window frame replacement on two side-by-side double-paned casement windows with screens. A representative came out and gave me an initial quote of around $1,800. He was friendly and explained that a full frame replacement was the best option to prevent any dry rot from spreading. He also said they would sand and paint the trim around my skylight window. I signed the commitment, but the office never called for the down payment as promised. When I followed up a week later, they had no record of my estimate--the rep had quit and they couldn't find his notes or contact info. They sent out a second rep who apologized and explained the first guy had made a big mistake. The new price was $3,000. He personally promised to come paint my skylight trim himself to make up for the large price increase and the inconvenience. They scheduled the install, but canceled the morning of the appointment (after I had already cleared my whole day) because they hadn't finished the job from the day before. The actual installation went okay, but they used non-paintable silicone caulk even though I told the installer I planned to paint the exterior to match the rest of my cedar house. The install chipped some of the existing paint near the windows, and now paint won't stick to the caulk at all. It looks very noticeable and unfinished. The worst part came after I paid in full. The rep who promised to paint the skylight trim completely ghosted me. I texted him multiple times to confirm our agreed-upon date (I had already bought all the paint and supplies), but he never responded. Since this was offered as a personal favor outside the contract, I have no way to hold them accountable. I chose a small local company because I like supporting neighborhood businesses, and the rep seemed genuine--he even mentioned doing work for my neighbor down the street. Unfortunately, the misleading initial quote, the big price jump, the last-minute cancellation, the wrong caulk, and especially being ignored after I paid have left me extremely frustrated with unfinished work and wasted time/money. Horrible experience. We signed to have them install gutter guards on our house. They came out and did a poor job of installing it to the point where there were gaps in between the pieces, which kind of defeat the purpose of gutter guards because gunk is getting in the gutters. It has been almost a full year now of calling and asking them to fix it and complaining and telling them it's not right and it is still not fixed. Would highly advise not using them. read more

We had Key Exteriors replace our roof and windows many years ago. They are definitely not the same company. We had 2 skylights replaced and new gutters and gutter guards installed. The skylights were installed but the finish trim on the inside was over caulked and looks horrible. There are 3 places on the the gutters that the rain just runs over the gutter guards and pours directly on the ground. Too many phone calls (at least 8) have gone unanswered. They got their money, I guess service doesn't come with the installation. read more

When I sought a new storm door for my house, I turned to a company that had previously provided excellent service. However, my experience with Key Exteriors fell far short of expectations. While they once boasted great customer service, it seems their commitment ends as soon as a sale is made. We ordered a custom door in February 2024, with a lead time of 12-16 weeks. Additionally, I had a sliding door under warranty, but when I called, the owner claimed it was out of warranty without checking. Only after I provided documentation did they agree to honor the warranty. This experience has been incredibly frustrating. Repeated calls and missed appointments have become the norm. Despite scheduling appointments for measurements, their staff consistently fails to show up, forcing us to rearrange our schedules. Despite being told our door was in, subsequent inquiries yielded no progress. Today, on May 13th, 2024, I called again for an update, only to be met with evasive answers and promises of callbacks that never materialized. The customer service representative I spoke to was rude and offered nothing but excuses. Their dismissive attitude towards me, a paying customer, was unacceptable. If I could cancel my order and take my business elsewhere, I would without hesitation. I strongly advise against using Key Exteriors for any home improvement needs. read more

We signed a contract with Key Exteriors which they refused to honor. They said they had made a mistake on the quote and no longer wanted to provide the new roof and we had put a $10,000.00 deposit down on the project. While trying to resolve the issue they continuously refused to return any phone calls. We finally had to go to the office personally to get our deposit returned. And they called today and the sales manger said that one of the people who was going to come and do an estimate today was confuse on what we were going to do to our House. And the owner had come out to figure out an idea and the sales manger said that the guy who was coming out said that he was still confused and my dad said to talk to the owner and they never called us back today. I hired Key Exteriors in March 2020 for a completed exterior makeover. They offered extremely high end materials at a premium price. We wanted an established contractor who wouldn't be out of business is six months and would stand behind their workmanship. I am a widow raising a son on my own and spent our life savings on an income property with a solid plan to remodel and create an income. Key Exteriors has taken away my dream and left me with no income and thousands in expenses for taxes, insurance, and utilities on a home that cannot be finished. The materials took a bit longer than usual due to the pandemic, and the job was underway by July and scheduled to be completed in August. This was understood from the beginning and not a problem. The crew leader Josh stated that he was Bill's business partner and represented himself as experienced and knowledgeable professional who knew what he was doing. Unbeknownst to us, Josh had no idea what he was doing and was just an incompetent employee. The roofing crew did a beautiful job and I was extremely satisfied with the appearance of the new metal roof and paid for it in full. Then things went south. Josh's crew did very sloppy, poor quality work with the windows, doors, and siding. They pulled off the siding and damaged our brand new HVAC system. The new doors they installed were scratched up by the crew. The siding was improperly installed and leaked when it rained. Two windows were the wrong style/size. The windows leaked. Josh made a decision to not trim the small windows in black without consulting me, even though it was stated in the contract. I asked for uniformity and for the black trim to be removed from the picture window OR the black trim added to the other windows. He said the black would look terrible, and it did look pretty bad. He didn't listen. Instead, he had the black trim replaced on the picture windows facing the lake. The siding was sloppy and damaged (messy cuts, gaps, waves, scratches) by the inexperienced crew and incompetent leadership of Josh. The crew also bent the metal roof in the front of the house and Josh refused to fix it. He agreed to replaced the damaged front door and then lied about replacing it and covered up the scratches with touch up paint. At the end of August 2020, the job was "completed" with a punch list of damage and problem areas to repair. A Green Sky loan was due for the project and I was promised in writing that my punch list would be taken care of, which included some major issues such as replacing the bent section of the roof, replacing damaged doors, repairing the areas of siding and windows that were not trimmed wrong, scratched, etc., major clean up of construction trash piled up on my lawn, etc. We were ghosted for three months once that loan was signed. I learned Josh has been fired and was merely a terrible employee responsible for at least a handful of jobs he left a complete mess, never Bill's partner. It was the middle of winter at that point and thanks to Josh's incompetence, my home had been without power since August 2020 and Josh threw away our meter box and replaced it with the wrong size and didn't installed it with the siding. A Key's employee named Shane arrived on scene and he was competent and professional. He was extremely knowledgeable and horrified by the mess Josh had made. He pointed out that the interior framing was unsafe and not to code and if not reinforced, the roof would cave in with moderate snowfall. He was not authorized by Bill, the owner, to bring it up to code and replace the bent roof section, so he could only do a patch job. Shane pulled off all the siding on the front of the house and it was left off for months. We still had no electricity because the meter base and box needed to go on the front of the house where the siding was pulled off. It was not until May 2021 that the wrong bathroom window was replaced and the siding on the front of the house replaced. We also needed siding replaced on the back side, but Shane had to order more siding. That siding was never ordered. A flooring crew damaged all of the entry doors and one door handle with their tool belts and materials and the owner took full responsibility and called Bill multiple times to file an insurance claim and order new doors. Bill claimed he never heard from him. In June, Shane asked us if we were interested in a discount to live with the bent roof. We agree to negotiate and have all other work completed and accept the bent roof and patchwork framing that was not to code for a 25% discount. We called, emailed, and texted the scheduler Jessica several times a week between June and November and kept getting the brush off. "We're trying to put together a crew and schedule your job," she was told to say. That never happened. In November, Bill communicated that I could walk away with no further work done and not pay a $10k balance and he wouldn't sue me. It's been 22 months. Unacceptable! read more

This Company took 1 year to install 5 windows, siding, facia, and gutters on a 1100 sq ft house. time stated on contract was 10-15 business days. After meeting with two sales guys on 01/25/20, job was to start 6-12 weeks. job did not start until 6/29/20. Prior to that, We had to finally call in May to ask what the delay was. Bill Kesterkey, the owner showed up and said they could not do the one window we wanted. At that time he had to re-measure, and had to come back to re-measure. He doesn't do a very good job of measuring because when they finally did start they did not have enough material. 2nd they could not do the siding on the one end of the house because he measured wrong. After the initial crew went as far as they could, again because of no material and the wrong size window was ordered, it was over 3 weeks later they came up to work on the job. The crew showed up with no info on what they were supposed to do, and had to leave, again no materials or supplies. our upper windows were never mulled together and had 1/8 " gaps until they came back on 01/25/21. Yes!....thats one year to the date. They were also notified of a damage window that they had cut into the vinyl and left a big gouge. This was brought to their attention Aug, 24th, It wasnt until the day after Thanksgiving that Shane came up to validate our concerns. A week later they sent us a collection letter from an attorney, even though the job was not complete!! We had to hire an attorney to fight that, another $300 dollars out of pocket. BEWARE....Do NOT hire these people, they lie, won't return you phone calls and have NO INTEGRITY as they advertise!!!! read more

I have watched this company do sub-par work on my neighbor's home for over a year. The crew left a terrible mess, ruined landscaping, damaged property, and the quality of the work was so poor, much of the work needed to be redone, and STILL is not completed! The company abandoned the project for six months. All the neighbors have watched in horror and our neighbor has been ignored and pushed aside. I wouldn't hire this company to build a dog house. They don't even deserve one star. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

This company has to be the worst I've done business with would not recommend the owner himself wouldn't talk to us about the problems he told his employees to tell us he wasn't there and would call us back .we went to the store and he was there but they said he wasn't . very unprofessional besides wrong windows shorted us a window and took 6 months to get done and now have more problems with the windows insulation over 10 grand and won't stand behind their work if he won't communicate to listen and resolve . If only I could give zero stars... Met with this company twice because the first person they sent was a nightmare. They called and apologized and asked if the Sales Manager and Owner could come out, we agreed. The Sales Manager, Mike Fox, showed for the appointment, but the owner did not. Mr. Fox then spent the next hour pitching the roofing process, which, in all honesty, appeared very good. However, as we neared the end of the presentation, Mr. Fox repeatedly tried to pressure us into financing the roof despite the fact that we specifically stated when booking the appointment that we would not be replacing our roof until spring 2018. Then, when he finally realized we would not finance the roof, he refused to give a quote-- the whole purpose of the appointment! Mr. Fox then simply REFUSED to leave. He continued to sit at our kitchen table and ask us questions and state that he was just relaxing are finishing his bottle of water, that he had earned the right to relax. This entire process was completely surreal and, quite frankly, creepy. I have never dealt with a company where this would be considered acceptable behavior. Absolutely horrible. read more

This is a review of my recent experience with Key Exterios and the sales rep Andy Diekroger. I hired them to do a roof, soffit, facia, gutters & downspouts with minor bathroom ventilation fix. I will start off by saying that i surely do not feel that customer service is a priority here, i felt like i was chasing them down through the entire process to try and get information. Calling the office a couple of times the people i spoke with where borderline rude and offered little assistance. Please note this verbage from their contract i signed on 5/29. "Price includes all materials, labor, removal of all construction-related debris and site cleanup. Work estimated to begin approximately 8 - 16 weeks after acceptance of proposal and to be substantially completed within 3 - 7 business days thereafter. This would seem to me to set expectations that your project will take no longer than 1 week once started. I will break this review down into multiple sections. Roof Contacted me on Friday 7/5 to say they want to start that following Monday, ok great. I take the week off of work in-case i needed to be home assuming it would be wrapped up in a week. They were done Wednesday 7/10. The crew did a fantastic job, left no mess whatsoever for me to cleanup. However this was the roof only. I now have no gutters, downspouts are just hanging off the sides of my house. Roof looks great though and i would have no problem recomending that crew to anyone. The remainder of the week goes by and i have no contact from Key. I email the rep I bought the work from on 7/16, no response. Decided to call Key, the person who schedules the rest of the crews is on vacation and i was asked to call back the following week. I receive a voicemail the following day that the soffit and facia crew will be here on the 18th. Soffit & Facia Started work on the 18th, finished on the 20th. Work looks OK, i'm no expert but for what I paid i would have expected a much cleaner job. They did leave a bit of a mess, i picked up a few staples, quite a few pieces of trimmed aluminum, the insulation from cutting the existing wood was just left on the ground. Weeks later i'm still finding nice little sharp chunks of trimmed aluminum throught the yard. Pretty messy, not what you would expect when paying what you will be paying for this job. I would not recommend this company for this work. Gutters Gutters installed on 7/31. Look great, there was no mess left behind, couldn't even tell they were here. Summary Approximately 1 month from start to finish. You will not be able to communicate via email. If you like me are searching for someone who values their customer's this isn't the place for you. I work in the customer service industry, have hired other contractors who have fantastic customer service. That simply isn't what Key is offering, you will be majorly dissapointed if that is what your looking for. I have aquantances looking for similar work and I can tell you they are certainly going to look elsewhere. I would not recommend to friends or family. read more

They do decent work. Communication could be better. They will at least come out to fix most problems you have after the project is complete, but not all. They will leave nails, screws,metal pieces,and cigarette butts in yard and around property. Sales people will try to talk you into upgrading everything. Be sure to have a large enough project, they will not do jobs that are "too small of a project". read more

We spent a little over $17000.00 on siding and soffit for our house. Overall, we are pleased with the quality although I should have obtained more quotes. The installers were good, but I discovered the attic vent they replaced was punched into the attic and left there. I felt the installers could have done a better quality job of caulking, especially around the garage. No effort was made to smooth out the bead. The biggest issue we have is customer service follow up. We had two areas of siding that had bulged out and needed repair. I had to call multiple times before receiving a call to let me know someone was coming out. The first time they were a no show and I received no call. I had to call again twice before they came out and fixed one of the two areas. The bulge on the side of the house has still not been fixed. In a competitive industry, good customer service can make the difference. In this area, Key Exteriors has failed. Follow up on service calls should be a priority, especially for customers who paid in full. read more

Wanted a quote on siding and was told that their Rep Andy would show up. Andy arrived, came out of his truck looked around at the back of the house, then went to the front, looked around, spent most of his time looking at the lake, then tells my husband 'well, were not the cheapest, and were not the most expensive. its gonna be $500 a square'. my husband asks him if hes going to measure anything and his way of measuring is pulling your house up on google maps. Seriously? he pulls it up and says, you did a lot of changes. Then he asks what my budget is? You gotta be kidding me! Obviously he didnt want the job and was there a good 10-15 minutes. I later got a call from their office asking about how the meeting went. I told the person what had happened and she asked me if i was there, i said no i was at work. she told me that maybe i misunderstood that i was supposed to have been there so he could meet w/both of us to go over their products. This is how I see it, if he was like that with my husband, then he would have done the same thing if i was there and wasted both of our times. The lady on the phone wanted to know if we wanted their manager to come out to give us a quote, I told her we didnt want anything to do with them. A sales rep 'represents' the company they work for.
