Fishing and Beer go hand and hand... some would even say "So what if don't make a catch today as long as we have some cold brew".... but normally the fish and beer are partnered at sea... Well, at Key West Bait & Tackle they take that premise a step further with a beer serving bar right in the bait and tackle shop. Now you can pick up your hooks, rigged ballyhoo and frozen chum, grab a brew or two and not even dirty the boat. Seriously, a bait and tackle shop with a bar; they may not have nearly the inventory of most bait and tackle shops but then again most shops can't offer you a brew. Actually, they really do have a great assortment of bait and tackle. And they really do have a bar... small, but nonetheless it's a bar. For a laugh stick your face through the fisherman photo board and grab a memorable photo of yourself holding a impressive catch in your full fisherman's garb. See for yourself... http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/key-west-bait-and-tackle-key-west?select=An0FsyErLr3_7skAc6gP8A#An0FsyErLr3_7skAc6gP8A UPDATE: MARCH 2013 Thought I'd share some info about Key West Bait & Tackle I just learned myself... The bar inside of the shop is called the "Live Bait Lounge" (great name) and the prices are bargains (especially for Key West); domestics go for $2.50 and imports for $3.25. And recently they began to offer breakfast and lunch (very fairly priced). Seems like the perfect place to swap fish tales (you know the kind; where the fish gets bigger each time that story is told).

If you want to feel like a local and have a good time stop in for a beer. Becky will always serve you a beer with a smile.

This was not the case with Camping Florida Keys. While preparing my trip to Dry Tortuga National Park, John from the Yankee Freedom suggested me to rent everything needed from them. I did some research on their website and it looked good. While the trip was approaching I found myself with almost everything needed for the camping experience, the only missing piece was the tent that we were hoping to buy on the way to the Keys. Once we arrived to the Keys and without a tent, my girlfriend contacted them to rent just the tent, the number was like $75 which I could have bought from Amazon for the same price or even less but we did it since time was against us. The tent was delivered to the port the following morning, we did our adventure and returned it with a very small hole (around the size of a quarter) so they kept the deposit of $150 until they came with the final "resolution" that ranged from a patch to a brand new one for the "modest price" of $375. Let me add that the small hole was not due to negligence on our part, it was the result of a natural event caused by a hermit crab attempting to break into our tent. This repair should have been just $20-$25 to put a patch and move on in a classic fashion, instead they charged $75.00 for the following, and I quote their email: "Attached is the receipt for materials totalling: $19.33. The remaining $55.67 is applied to time and restocking fees". Really!? Restocking fee and time for something that is exactly what you do on a daily basic. I'm out, buying my own tent for the next trip coming up in November.
