Nancy and I just happened to be checking out the park and beach while in the area and found this hidden gem. The Key West Garden Club is actually in and around the former Civil War Fort, Martello Tower. It's a gorgeous brick structure with multiple archways, and solid brick rooms with arched ceilings, which make for great photo op areas. Each room is decorated tastefully with artwork and plantlife. Outside, is a lovely garden with pathways that interconnect to other areas such as the butterfly garden, gazebo, water fountain, the St, Francis garden, and more. There is a gorgeous view of the beach area and Pier leading out into the water and horizon. It is very quiet and peaceful here, there were not many guests when we arrived. Staff working here we're super friendly, entry to the garden is free; however, they do accept donations. There are restrooms available to the public. And there is also a gift store available if you'd like to take home something memorable. Gift prices were fair and if you do buy something you know it's going back to the non profit. There is no central AC so be prepared to sweat a little if you're May through September. All in all, a great spot to visit with your loved one or family while in the Keys. There's free parking nearby and entry is free It doesn't get much better than that ,so definitely check them out.

    Hidden gem.

Wow! Beautiful hidden gym self-guided tour through garden club. And it has Breeze!! By the water.. Peaceful. Friendly stay Free or donations. Free parking. Beautiful

Beautiful gardens that were once an old fort with free admission. Run by volunteers who work to maintain the grounds. Great views with some nice seating options. Right next to the playground, beach and the restaurant Salute.

As the saying goes the Key West Garden Club is a hidden gem and it does not charge (donations accepted). The gardeners take pride in the garden which was an old fort. The quality is maintained through upkeep and the orchid garden is fabulous.

This is definitely a "must do" attraction when visiting Key West! Well, at least if you're into the local flora it is. A beautiful collection of buses, plants, and trees throughout and it's FREE! The volunteers who manage this place do a great job taking care of it, you might find yourself wanting to leave a donation when you leave, but it's not required, nor does any ask or request it. It's set in a beautifully maintained Civil War fort, with old brick walls throughout. There is a restroom and the walking paths are easy to navigate, as they're bricked or paved. Definitely suggest stopping in here versus the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden on Stock Island, which charges and isn't as nice.

This could easily be the best part of our trip- we visited in November and it was the sweetest secret garden! FREE ADMISSION, but we made a donation. We wandered around this oasis a few hours before we headed to the airport. Great spot for your last stop in Key West. It's filled with wonder and excitement and enchantment- truly a stellar stop for all to enjoy. Sunshine, floral, great greenery. Serenity and peacefulness in all corners. Great find from our friend. It was really lovely. Go check it out and enjoy the soothing sounds of the ocean, beautiful butterflies, winding orchids and blissful sunshine.

I'm a plant person (even though I can't keep them alive) so I literally was in nirvana just enjoying the bustling floral and plants in this place. I went to their Butterfly Garden and it was just so peaceful. They came so close that I could have touched them with my hand! They also have some plants for sell if you want to take a little one back to your abode. Best of all, it's FREE! They do take donations if you wish to contribute tho. Definitely add this to your trip and check out the Higgs Beach Pier and/or Edward Knight Pier nearby as well!

Small but good honest fun. You could do it in half an hour or spend half the day. Up to you. Some interesting history and exploring and plenty of fantastic garden photo ops here as well as a small gift shop and nursery. A Great place to pick up a few plants.

5 stars. A wonderful combination of history and colorful tropical gardens with a great backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. The Key West Garden Club is located in the West Martello Tower, a Civil War fort. It is one of the few free attractions on the island, but they do accept donations. The gardens are maintained by members and volunteers. It is a small garden but it has plenty to see. I even bought a nice little plant for my home. I definitely recommend coming here. It is just a nice quiet place to spend a few hours.

Beautiful civil war fort that the garden club caretakes. The plantings are mature and gorgeous. The labyrinth was meditative. It is next to a beach and did I mention it is free? Excellent excursion. Go!

No money required to enter, but donations are a nice gesture to donate to this lovely place. It is a well-kept botanical experience in Key West that allows visitors to experience a mix of history along with native flowers and trees within the walls an old, never used in battle fort. Getting in the place is a little weird, but just follow the signs. The volunteers are very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. Additionally, you can wander at your own pace, which I enjoyed. I would encourage you to pick up the piece of paper where it speaks about the enslaved people who occupied Key West for 3 months before being taken back to Africa. It is an interesting read. It offers a strong perspective of what really happened versus a whitewashed point of view. If you like history, this is a great stop for you to enjoy.

One of the best free things to do in Key West. A great place to take photos. The big Banyan Tree draped over the fort that you see in a ton of Pinterest photos is no longer there- it was destroyed several years ago in a storm but there is a smaller Banyan tree you can photograph. Close to Higgins Beach and a nice pier to walk out on.

Maybe I just didn't order the right thing, but my partner didn't enjoy his food too much either. Not worth coming twice to unfortunately in my opinion. Our waitress is what really blew it, overall very bad attitude. Seemed almost judge-mental. Didn't take away our used plates, which ending up making the small table super crowded, didn't check up on us, and over-all was mute the entire time serving us. Would come and in a blink she was gone again before we could ask anything. I understand waitresses can get caught up when taking care of multiple people, but there truly wasn't many people there. The Ambiance was nice, tables and overall space did look clean. We had an early dinner so there wasn't too much of a crowd. Bar had nice music. The aesthetic of the place is charming. Overall I'd give it 3 stars. If you're hungry and need a fill-me-up this is a good spot. Otherwise, if you can, I'd suggest you go elsewhere.

Great service at this restaurant. On my most recent visit, the views weren't quite as picturesque because there was a large amount of sargassum (seaweed) along the shoreline. A skid steer was actively pushing it into piles, and the smell was unfortunately pretty strong. That's obviously a natural condition and not really the restaurant's fault, but it did take away from the overall waterfront experience that day. Thankfully, the food was still excellent. The conch fritters are a must-order, and the fish tacos were absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and was served quickly. The restaurant offers all outdoor seating with views of the beach and the neighboring hotel's sandy beachfront, complete with lounge chairs and umbrellas, giving it a laid-back Key West vibe. There's also convenient off-street parking nearby, which is a nice bonus. If you're exploring the Southernmost Point and want a casual spot with good food and a relaxing atmosphere, Southernmost Beach Cafe is definitely worth a visit. Hopefully, you'll catch it on a day when the water is clear and free of sargassum so you can fully enjoy the views.

My wife and I planned a trip down and up the Keys in January as I was to start chemo and radiation on February 5th. On the 4th we received an email from American that our flight from PHX to MIA was canceled. We immediately reached out to each hotel, car and activity group that we planned. Each activity group understood and refunded us. The car company penalized us for 1 day but refunded the other 7 days. The hotel in Islamorada and Key Largo both refunded us with the Islamorada charging us for one night but it was better than nothing. We didn't mess with the one in MIA because it was a cheap hotel and wasn't worth the hassle. The Pier House first asked us for proof of the cancellation which I forwarded the email that I received from American. Heard nothing back. Reached out again asking for a refund or that we'd even be willing to rebook in May once my treatment was over and a few weeks to heal up. Finally we heard back that they were denying the refund and wouldn't accommodate our request to reschedule "because your non-refundable hotel did not qualify for modification nor refund exception.". While I understand it was non-refundable, a level of understanding should have been given as this was beyond our control and we were willing to reschedule. Needless to say, that cost me nearly $2500 so I assure you that I won't be booking with them again. I just want to pass along the compassion that this hotel management has and I'd personally recommend looking at a different property.

Truman Little White House in Key West. We opted for the White Glove VIP Tour, and it was hands-down awesome. The VIP package takes the standard visit to a whole new level. We were able to access exclusive areas that regular tour groups couldn't, got to sit inside the actual presidential limo, and went next door to examine rare historic artifacts in the museum foundation's private archives. The entire two-hour tour flew by, largely thanks to our guide, Greg, who was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and top-tier. Now, a word of caution for future visitors... Beware the Hawaiian Shirt Curse. Legend has it that during Truman's post-presidential travels in the Pacific, a local Hawaiian elder bestowed a vibrant, hand-stitched shirt upon him--along with a subtle tiki curse. The spell was woven directly into the fabric: anyone who dons the garment shall be consumed by an insatiable, endless drive to acquire tropical resort wear. During the VIP tour, I was actually permitted to try on one of Truman's original vintage Hawaiian shirts. Ever since that moment, I've been on a full-blown spending spree buying Hawaiian shirts. My closet is overflowing, my bank account is weeping, but my tropical wardrobe has never looked better. Whether the legend is real or I'm just rationalizing my new fashion obsession, this tour was easily one of the highlights of our trip. Don't skip the VIP upgrade!
