First of all this place's entrance is FREE and I was impressed with the amount of information about The Cuban history and how they migrated to the USA. It was such an emotional time to be here.

If you are a history buff, cigar smoker, Cuban independence enthusiast or really anyone in between this place is AMAZING! Full of artifacts, paintings, sculptures, posters, stamps.... all kinds of primary sources it was so good. The employee at the front desk, Alex, is very knowledgeable about both the building and it's history, as well as the history of Cuban independence and the role key west played in it, I learned so much! Highly recommend!

This is by far my favorite Key West event of all throughout the entire year. Country Music songwriter greats from around the country perform at various locations throughout Key West. And the best part... most of the entertainment is FREE! There are two to three musicians on stage at a time. One sings a song, then the next and so forth in rotation. The talent changes every hour so you are never board. 2014 Heralded some amazing talent including Sarah Evens at the main stage on Duval, and the beautiful Kacey Musgraves and Sarah Darling, to name a few. The 2015 Line up is equally as compelling with Jack Ingram, the legendary Robert Earl Keen and Rhett Akins, Josh Dorr's return and Chris Young! Whether you are a country music fan or just plain love music, this is a don't miss event. Smokin' Tuna is an official sponsor, so look for your t-shirts and memorabilia at the gift shop here. There are a few performances that require ticket purchases in advance. Heads up, they sell out quickly. You can purchase CDs and have them signed by the artists too! Check out the Website for a list of 2015 performers for this year's event: http://www.keywestsongwritersfestival.com/index.html

You've stopped by the Westin, outside Mallory Square for a cocktail. The sky overhead is painting poetry with colors you never even knew existed... A little french man, begins lugging cage after cage, box after box, pole after pole. You smile, slurp the last of the liquid in your cup and gaze out to sea. The little french man, begins concocting a trapeze and tight rope, a la Mouse Trap, the old 80's game. You order another cocktail and glance amusedly at the astro turf and four super tall stools the little french man has put together. Fast Forward an hour. You are borderline buzzed and laugh with glee at the cat show unfolding before you. The little French Man has trained a dozen or so stray cats. He urges them along with the catchphrase " 'Urry Uuup - Take Yuuur Taaaahme" and tosses tuna at them while they jump through hoops of fire and other fun tricks and acrobatics.

He keeps them in tiny cages and has them jump hurdles. Anyone who can read a cats body language can see that the twitching of the tail is stress, not pleasure. Mostly my wife looking at the cats and trying to get their attention. We had a cat, they do whatever they want when they want to. At a given time, we came back to the front for the house and garden tour. It was very informative and it lasted about 30 minutes. It does include some very steep stair climbing but well worth the visit. I was not aware of the whole cat thing but it was an interesting story on why and how they got there. But to see where Hemingway, certainly one of America's best writers, lived was a very cool thing to do.... in this heat and humidity :)

We were originally going to do the guided tour, but the cats were having us struggle a little. No fault of theirs, of course. We're just cursed because we absolutely love cats and even feed a homeless one at home! We loved walking around the beautiful gardens, including the little cat cemetery for some of the felines who lived here over the years. I also loved all the vintage furniture inside the house and how everything feels like it has been perfectly preserved in time. The staff was incredibly nice, and I even gave them one of my Halloween stickers! And let me tell you, these cats are living in LUXURY and loving every minute of it. The property isn't super huge, but there's plenty to look at and we definitely recommend visiting, especially if you love history and fluffy cats posing like French women. Such a fun and unexpected Key West stop!
