The manager has gone out of her way to help me transfer ownership on the account, answer questions, keep in touch on paperwork or issues. I think that is pretty cool since our group's petty cash adds only to a few bucks a month. No outrageous fees either! I dig the NSB pig flying logo too. TD Bank in Bennington, VT refused to even tell me if my late brother was a bank customer. In order to provide even the most innocuous of info, they tell me I need to either hire a lawyer to wrangle with them (at $250 an hour) or show up with the paperwork in person at the bank branch (at least $1000 in airfare, plus hotel and rental car). I don't want to do either of those things since I don't even know if my brother still had an active account there (he was a very poor record-keeper). I live in San Diego - there are no TD Banks on the West Coast. The bank made no attempt to be helpful whatsoever. Sweet, soft-spoken but useless and clueless staff. Just don't bank with these folks. Just don't. They don't know the meaning of customer service, and if your relative dies and you're the out of state administrator, they seem to be fixated on making your experience as onerous as possible.

Having been a member for over 33 years I have seen plenty of good and bad. But what they are now is beyond bad. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere if you are looking for a new credit union. The lines at their branches are often so long that people give up and walk out before being helped. Their on-line bill paying app has been upgraded to a unreliable mess. Often bills don't get paid. When you call up and ask why the staff tells you that you didn't pay the bill. I've resorted to taking screen shots of it being confirmed. When I try to send them the image they tell me that they can't receive the image to avoid the truth. When you call up half the time you get an answering service who can't really do much. When you ask to have someone call you back who can rarely do you actually get a call. With less than 2 years to go on my mortgage I'll stick it out until then. But once that's paid I'm gone and never looking back. I have yet to find any other people who are members who don't feel the same as me.

They stay open until 5 on Fridays. We were the only customers- there were 3 employees there. We were told that they couldn't possibly open the account then , and that she needs an appointment ( something i have NEVER had to do in nearly 60years of banking). She scheduled an appointment for Saturday. The FOURTH visit, we arrived on time. There was another family opening an account but again it was nearly empty. We got right in and they opened up a checking account. We attempted to set up mobile banking and downloaded the app. We could not input the information as the app wasn't responding. Then they went to create the debit card( the entire reason for our FOUR visits). Note they advertise instant debit cards. And....... They cannot currently get their machine to work so they have to mail it. AND we wasted a half hour there this morning NOT just 5 minutes. You get the feeling that they just see you as a $$ign. This NBT though is not the ubiquitous VT local because they have Carol. She really had the true sense of Local - treating customers like her neighbors! Very refreshing and for the first time this season I felt more than just $ to VT retailers and farmers. About a month ago, I decided to visit Montreal last minute and needed to exchange USD to Canadian currency. I don't have a local bank and my banks didn't have exchange capabilities in VT. When I called around, I found out that many local banks only provide the service for their members or charge extra (a lot) for the service. More hassle and nickel and diming. Not so at NBT and Carol was so helpful - fair exchange rate and no nickel and diming. When I got there the next day, she came by and said "hello". This is VT I remember and Carol was very welcoming! The exchange was pleasant and I was so happy that I told how great NBT is to everyone that week! At the end of the day, it's about people who make the difference.
