The manager has gone out of her way to help me transfer ownership on the account, answer questions, keep in touch on paperwork or issues. I think that is pretty cool since our group's petty cash adds only to a few bucks a month. No outrageous fees either! I dig the NSB pig flying logo too. You get the feeling that they just see you as a $$ign. This NBT though is not the ubiquitous VT local because they have Carol. She really had the true sense of Local - treating customers like her neighbors! Very refreshing and for the first time this season I felt more than just $ to VT retailers and farmers. About a month ago, I decided to visit Montreal last minute and needed to exchange USD to Canadian currency. I don't have a local bank and my banks didn't have exchange capabilities in VT. When I called around, I found out that many local banks only provide the service for their members or charge extra (a lot) for the service. More hassle and nickel and diming. Not so at NBT and Carol was so helpful - fair exchange rate and no nickel and diming. When I got there the next day, she came by and said "hello". This is VT I remember and Carol was very welcoming! The exchange was pleasant and I was so happy that I told how great NBT is to everyone that week! At the end of the day, it's about people who make the difference. NBT is lucky to have Carol Costello and I am grateful she helped me. She gets the real meaning of what it is to support Local and has Customer Service down!

She was told what ID to bring and that it would take about 5 minutes. The second time, we arrived at 415 (the earliest she can get there) to find that they close at 4 on Thursdays for no apparent reason The third time, we arrived on Friday at 415. They stay open until 5 on Fridays. We were the only customers- there were 3 employees there. We were told that they couldn't possibly open the account then , and that she needs an appointment ( something i have NEVER had to do in nearly 60years of banking). She scheduled an appointment for Saturday. The FOURTH visit, we arrived on time. There was another family opening an account but again it was nearly empty. We got right in and they opened up a checking account. We attempted to set up mobile banking and downloaded the app. We could not input the information as the app wasn't responding. Then they went to create the debit card( the entire reason for our FOUR visits). Note they advertise instant debit cards. And....... They cannot currently get their machine to work so they have to mail it. AND we wasted a half hour there this morning NOT just 5 minutes. Do yourself a favor and find a better bank- theres plenty of choices out there

She was clearly not doing any banking transaction, just talking to the teller. After 20 minutes and a long line had formed I asked the teller if there was any teller backup support she could call on. She said no. 5 minutes later some guy comes in off the street wanting to buy a roll of quarters. Frustrated by the line he starts walking through the offices until he finds the branch manager who comes out and opens up another teller window. If your tellers can't tell the truth and your branch manager can't see the long line and a problem, you don't belong in a customer service organization. Most banks are fast, efficient and care about their customers. Citizen's Bank does not.

They are moving to different offices so the signage to get in was a bit confusing but other than that, I have to say that I am grateful for the service they provided overall. He even walked me through getting back into the account online and setting up access into it which I am so grateful for, and explained how the stocks and investment portion of Charles Schwab works because I was not well versed on it at all. An added bonus was the small bowl of lifesavers in the corner that I had to munch on while Alec was helping me with my account:)

Absolutely HORRIBLE. Because of a People's United clerical error, I am being harassed at work by a collection's agency. For money I ALREADY PAID to People's United! Here is what happened. I kept detailed notes: 1) On 8/13/2012, I called People's United about my account closure. I asked for the remaining amount left on the balance, so I could write a check for this exact amount. 2) I mailed the check in by certified mail the next day. 3) On 8/24/2012, the check cleared from my new checking account. 4) On 9/7/2012, I received a letter in the mail telling me that my account had been transferred to a collection's agency! 5) I IMMEDIATELY called People's United. They told me that they still showed I owed a balance. They "believed me" that the check had cleared, but said the department which could confirm that was closed for the weekend. 6) I was told they'd call me on Monday to clear this up. I missed (what I believe) was their call by 2 seconds. When I tried to call back right away, it said the number was disconnected! Google confirmed this is STANDARD customer service for them; they call you and you CANNOT CALL THEM BACK. 7) About an hour later I started getting calls from the collection agency. What is the amount of this debt, you may wonder? $36. The account has been closed for less than a month and People's immediately sent it to a collection's agency even AFTER I paid it. I'm utterly baffled by the completely awful, horrific level of customer service. NEVER again. DO NOT sign up for People's United.

Other than that, I have had a nightmarish experience using them as my mortgage lender, mainly dealing with their loan processor in Brattleboro but also their rep in Rutland, after the Addison County rep quit a few weeks into our process with them. They are not responsive; they are incredibly difficult to deal with; they are rude and defensive when dealing with customers who are upset because the most expensive & important transaction of their lives isn't going smoothly; according to our lawyer and realtor they seem way outside industry standard with their requirements (e.g. 48 hours out from closing after we have the clear to close they now need more paperwork that was either sent to them previously or could have been if they'd asked for it two months ago, like the inspection, and they won't allow us to close with a personal property addendum for one piece of furniture even though it was in the contract they've had on file for two months now). I was only lukewarm on my personal banking experience with them due to their poor online interface for ebanking, but after this fiasco I will be closing all my accounts.

That also means I have had a line of credit with these guys for just about 10 years! I have done everything from auto loans, personal loans and I even have their credit card! (Visa card) The staff here really do care about their members. Customer service seems to be their #1 goal. They meet it with flying colors. Loan applications are stream lined and when you stop in it can be a quick in and out! But they always have that personal touch with every member. Just whatever you do don't use the word bank! They will remind you that its a credit union! Something that they are proud of and they should be. Their online web site has also recently been updated. Everything is real time and you can review your loans and accounts from the same screen! It makes for easy money transfers and paying bills online has also just got easier! Huge, huge plus in my book. Mobile app is also available on your smartphone as well. (iPhone iOS & the Android OS.) It works just a good as the full site and its secure.
