They have everything from a ton of machines, recumbent bikes, treadmills, free weights, dumbbells, bars. Upstairs is a large open mat area with lower weight, dumbbells, ropes, rowers, and huge mirrors everywhere along with changing room and showers and bathrooms and a sauna, which may or may not be working. Cost me $18 for a day pass. Weekly $70 and monthly passes available. Upstairs, there are hand weights: 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9,10, 12, 15, 20. The gym is not packed and especially upstairs you're likely to have it to yourself. (Visit was in March). Hours were good. I believe 8 to 8. I gave it 5 stars because I went to lift weights and appreciated the variety on the hand weights. . However, just know that upstairs is somewhat old and dated. read more

Not much for stationary bikes, a couple of recumbent and older LifeCycles. Very difficult to do a Peloton class. Bring your own water and towel. Doesn't look like much, but this is for a REAL gym goer. All the machines you can think of, a squat rack, an oly lifting platform, barbells on barbells, an open room for stretching or basically whatever you want to do. box jump, kettlebells, etc - you name it! I don't know where to begin. I would not have stepped foot into this gym if any other gym or fitness center was available in the local vicinity. However, the options in the Keys are limited. The Keys Fitness Center obviously realizes it has a monopoly on the market; the facility is disgusting: dripping water from rooftop air conditioning units creates mildew on the floor and a horrible stench in the air. The equipment is so old that I slipped on the elliptical and treadmill machines because the traction is so run-down. There is dirt caked into the machines (I doubt they have been cleaned in years). I'd be astonished if a single dollar has been invested in this gym in the past two decades. Posters and art on the walls date back to the early 90's and make you feel like you've walked into a timewarp. The machines and equipment are outdated and repaired with tape. There is no reason to attend this gym. The owner should be ashamed of its condition. It should either be torn down or open to the public for free. **If there is a way to alert the health department to inspect it, I'd like to be informed so I can advise them they need to make an imminent visit. read more

For someone who is committed and looking for a nice range of isolation lifts to split throughout the week, this place is for you. They have two levels and four big rooms full of equipment. If you're like me and like to use body building.com or other like websites to create a workout that targets an hours worth of, say shoulders. This place has the equipment listed on those major sites almost all of the time, have only come across one routine that was missing a machine, and even then it was a simple free weight readjustment. A downsize, but not a deal breaker, is the fact they do not have a water fountain. But they do have a sink, so plan ahead and bring a bottle cause it's the same old h2o. But my favorite days in this place are the days when I walk in for a workout without a plan. I've already set an hour aside and I'm just looking to put in some work, maybe even relax a bit, maybe push my limits. Knowing that I can do both in my time frame using the vast selection of equipment is why I'll come back to this gym. read more

Decided to check this gym out since the marina we are staying in only has cardio equipment and bands. Im an avid gym goer and was pleasantly surprised at how large the gym was. Dumbells up to 115, a bunch of squat racks, and actual iron plates. Equipment is a little older and you arent going to get a fresh moist towel when you walk in, but you can tell the place has history and character. If you are in the Keys and you have to get your workout on, this place will get the job done. The place is really outdated and decorated with 70's fitness posters. I would go again when I visit the area if the place I am staying at does not have a fitness center. The reason why I am giving it a low score is because I witnessed the owner or the manager yell at an employee and totally berate him in front of everyone. Horrible. This place is disgusting. Was vacationing in Marathon over the Holidays, looking for a gym to go for a workout. This place is so nasty. First it smells horrible. Second, there have been no updates to the place since 1975. The machines are rusted and caked in nasty sweat. I felt so gross in the place. I cut my workout short because I just couldn't handle the dirt that was and super-bacteria that was rampant on every machine in this place. The whole establishment, along with the Liquor Store and the cheap Italian restaurant owned by the same thug, Ralph, should be decommissioned. read more

Signed up for a month against my better judgement just to try something different while down for the "winter"... ok $70 a month super expensive but the gym was big and I want to keep my grind going. Day one ...it was a Friday they open at 6 am on weekdays, cool. One thing I noticed was how hot it was in the gym. Also how old the equipment was. I couldn't really figure out where the cleaning stuff was so I keep walking to the front of the gym for the supplies. The equipment was pretty gross, one free weight I grabbed was stained brown. Day two was a Saturday unfortunately they don't open until 8 am. I'm an earlier morning gym goer so this was rough for me. I went in started doing my thing and went to clean off my bench but couldn't find spray/paper towel/ or a garbage can. I went to the front again to grab some stuff to clean. When I noticed an employee so I thought I'd ask him if there was stuff in back to clean or if it was all up front. I waited for him to count the money he was handling then asked if there was supplies in the free weight room. He said no. I said ok is there a garbage can ? As I proceeded to grab my supplies to clean, he said "Jesus Christ !" I was shocked that someone( mind you an employee) would talk to someone who's literally just asking where the stuff is, because it's my second day there, and I'm trying to clean their stuff !!!) I flipped out and asked him if that's how he talked to members and asked for my money back. I will not be treated like crap because I'm trying to clean your shit ass gym. This place is a piece of garbage along with the misogynistic "man" behind the counter (he also works at the crappy liquor store next door) I will never be back and I highly suggest not even stepping place in here you WILL be disappointed if you do ! read more

Not sure why this gym has such a low rating. Granted it is a little pricey for a gym membership, it has everything you could want. If you're used to fancy shiny weights, you won't find that here... But if you'r'e on island and need something more than your hotel gym will provide, then Keys has it all and more. Great place, just expensive. read more

My husband and I have been coming down to the Keys for holiday and we've been coming here each time. I only give it one star bc I can't give it 0. The place is pretty tired but if you're serious about working out, it's fine. In fact, we had been going consistently until today and it was only because of the manager that ruined our experience. My husband's 1 month membership expired today while I still had 2 days to go. When my husband asked him to help him with the price to finish up the last few days with me, the manager had an attitude. He pointed at the list price and snapped "There you go." A single 1 month is $65, weekly $40, daily $10. My husband asked again, "Well, we'd just paid 1 month each and I've been coming here each time we're down here, can you do something for my last few days?" You would think he'd at least make some sort of gesture but the manager snapped at him saying "No. That's the price. If you're not happy with it, get out. I have people coming for years, you think I care if you're not happy? Leave." We make the time to go to the gym in Marathon everyday when we're down here and we're coming from Summerland and Big Pine. It's approx 40min each way to get to the gym for us. There are plenty of other gyms that are closer and gas isn't cheap down here. If that's not customer loyalty, I don't know what is. My husband asked again - basically expressing his disappointment. The manager got aggressive and started yelling at us. He grabbed the phone and verbally threatened him, "Get out of here. I'm going to call the Police and they'll come over to crack your skull and put you in jail. You don't believe me, you better watch it!" This whole time, we're just standing at the counter. My husband asks him, "For what? Asking you for a discount?" I guess the manager didn't think that through so he grabbed the phone again and actually walked AROUND the counter to go to my husband and tried to get into my husband's face - it was so painfully obvious that he wanted to try and start trouble. It was disgraceful to watch a supposed adult behave this way. Even more so bc the man was in dire need of actually going to the gym. And this is the manager of a business (well, that was another thing, he claims to be the owner - pretty embarrassing if that's the truth). Unfortunately for him, we just stood there -- mostly in disbelief. I was in shock.. He kept yelling some more babble about calling the cops to the point that a woman came over to us and told us that "we should leave". Really? What did WE do? Eventually, he realized he wasn't going to be able to get my husband to do something stupid. So he pretends to suddenly understand that my husband just wanted 2 days to spend working out with me - his attitude went from psycho to normal and said, "Oh, that's all you wanted? Sure, go ahead." He had the audacity to try and shake my husband's hand. I was so repulsed and turned off by his behavior and by what happened that I didn't want anything to do with that place. It's a shame bc we met some really nice people at that gym.. but no way in hell would I ever recommend this place to anyone.. It's a poor value already, but to pay to be verbally harassed and threatened like that? It's pretty clear he's only interested in making a buck. Stay away.. at the rate this guy is "running" this place - he's going to run it into the ground. We go to a gym in Key West now - MUCH BETTER. read more

I go to my house in marathon twice a year and attend this gym every time every day when I'm there. This is an old school gym IN THE KEYS! Remember where you are! Came to Marathon end of Dec2013 and wanted a good gym. Read the one bad review and decided to give it a try anyway. Went in had a look and bought a one month membership on the spot. While the guy behind the desk wasn't mr personality ,he was pleasant enough but as the days passed he became quite friendly. The gym is one of the best we've seen. It's really clean has an EXCELLENTt array of well maintained equipment...decent music( for this old guy)...not too loud..a genteel quiet clientele and a good central location. I would never go back to this gym! The manager is full of himself and is a total jerk. When I wanted to read the contract before I signed it, all he would do is roll his eyes like I was totally out of place by wanting to read a contract before signing. On another day when I was there, the owner totally berated an employee while several customers could overhear him and caused a bad situation. I travel and use a lot of gyms. I'm into a fitness lifestyle and I rate this gym as good. $11 day fee. The gym was not crowded, was packed (really packed) with good equipment. Everything was clean, all the equipment was fully functional. They had all of the current generation of cardio machines, weight machines, and other specialty equipment that you see in all of the good gyms. This is not an LA fitness, But it is closer to that then a rathole gym. The pics on their website are Actual and reflect the gyms look. The only interaction I had with staff was coming in the door ringing the bell asking how much, paying my fee and working out. otherwise they left me alone. I have paid more for less quality. I read other reviews about how terrible the staff was and I did not have that experience. Maybe I was lucky or they've recently made some changes. Of course this is the keys and quality service is not at the top of most people's priority list. As Arnold said "I'll be back ". (I'm a real reviewer and this is not a phony paid review) Update 4/16. I was here for a week on vacation and it got the job done. the equipment is dated and the carpet smells. The free weights are upstairs which makes it a pain in the ass if your circuit training. On the upside it's dead in there so you don't have I fight for equipment and it's pretty cold. read more

I recently joined Keys fitness on a one month membership. The manager wouldn't even get up off his lazy butt to give me a quick tour of the place. He is unlikeable / unfriendly. Some of the good things are: Quality machines,lots of free weights, plenty of parking and not very busy. Now here's why this place is a terrible value for $60/month ($55/month with 1 year commitment): The carpets and walls are dirty and desperately need cleaning / painting - The men's locker room is EXTREMELY tiny and is equally dirty. The sauna looks like it has been out of order for a long time. There is a toilet sitting in the middle of the stretching area near a closed bathroom door, which also reads "out of order". They do not seem to be putting any effort into maintaining the place at all! Their main focus is aimed towards selling cheap vodka to local drunks at the adjacent liquor store (same ownership). The walls are covered in shabby looking fitness posters from the 80's. They play crap pop music at a volume too loud to be drowned out with ipod headphones. I feel like giving this place a two star rating is being generous, but I am keeping in mind that there doesn't seem to be any quality alternatives in Marathon period. If I was planning on staying in this area for any length of time I would definitely invest in a Bowflex or similar so as to avoid this crap-hole. read more
