I was stopped at a traffic light on Linebaugh Avenue at Sheldon Road in the Westchase area, when a lady came flying up from behind at close to 60 mph. She slammed straight into the back of my SUV, and caused significant damage to the vehicle and to me. Had I not been driving an SUV I doubt that I'd be here today. Oh by the way, the police report indicated that this woman was "distracted by texting", and she had no insurance. Lured In With Low Rates -- Left Without Representation When It Mattered…read more I switched to Progressive attracted by competitive rates. Everything was fine -- until I actually needed them. My vehicle was stationary and struck from behind by another vehicle. Under any reasonable standard, this is a clear-cut case of 100% liability on the part of the other driver. Progressive saw it differently. Without thorough investigation, without properly reviewing the documentation and reports I provided, and without any meaningful effort to represent my interests, they agreed to a 50/50 split with the opposing party's insurer. This is not just wrong -- it is professionally indefensible. An insurance company that collects your premiums has an obligation to advocate for you. Progressive did the opposite: they took the path of least resistance and sided against their own policyholder. No diligence. No professionalism. No representation. If you are considering Progressive because of their rates, think carefully. Low premiums mean nothing if your insurer abandons you the moment a claim arises. I will be filing formal complaints with both the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) and the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS). I will not continue subsidizing their endless TV commercials while receiving zero advocacy in return.
