Today was the last try for KFC at this location. It was noon thirty. We asked for a bucket of chicken. They only had 2 pieces of chicken. Said it would by a 25 minute wait. So we ordered 2 pot pies. Mine had 2 pieces of chicken in it. My friend's had 1 piece of chicken. It was mushy with lots of doughy pieces in it. Yuck! And I love pot pies. Before today I tried 6 times to get pot pies at dinner time. Five times they didn't have any. I could see if it was 8:30 at night, but dinnertime. This particular KFC in Crystal River, FL is absolutely the worst franchise in the chain that I've ever experienced--and I've traveled all over the U.S. Super sad that I live here, so I've been stuck with poor quality KFC food that is nowhere near franchise standards. The bone-in chicken is consistently served extra greasy, rarely crispy, with the skin falling off. Drive-thru service is frequently slow, and often rude. Photo is of my DoorDash order from 7/31/26. I did not order *any* of these items. What I ordered was an 8-piece combo bucket meal, with large sides of coleslaw and mashed potatoes + gravy, and it's supposed to include biscuits. What I received was a greasy mess of all dark meat, 2 orders of fries, a small cup of Mac & cheese, and a small cup of mashed potatoes and gravy (both cold). No biscuits. It appears that the staff just took whatever was lying around getting cold and unsold, threw it in a bag, and handed it to the Dasher, who isn't going to open the bag to check the order, because that's not really sanitary, and not really her responsibility. I ate one greasy thigh, and choked down the mac & cheese because it was around 9:00 PM and I was hungry and tired. Suffered gastrointestinal distress within 10 minutes. This is the last straw. Hello everyone ... it's the "restaurant guy", former owner of The Chart Room in Cincinnati Ohio. I was looking forward to Mother's Day this year because my son-in-law was going to buy a big bucket of "crispy "Kentucky Fried chicken for our family gathering. What a disappointment! He ordered ahead of time and still had to wait a little more than 1/2 hour, but we all felt that it would be worth the wait because we all had our good memories of the original Kentucky Fried chicken and the fact that it was Mother's Day and there were a lot of people ordering pick up From KFC. When he got it home, and we popped the lid and looked inside ... yuck! It looked a mess. There was no "crispy" to be seen! The chicken was "OK", but definitely lacked the taste of what we felt made KFC famous. And it looked even more disappointing on the plate as it did when we opened the bucket. She is just a body there going in slow motion. After waiting 15 minutes for my order, everything on this order was incorrect, and the chicken was undercooked. They did not even give me my receipt so I had to go back and request it. When I asked her about the chicken, she said she couldn't give me thighs because they ran out so she gave me a tiny drumstick in its place. What a joke. Girl wouldn't even do anything about the situation with the order. Just didn't care. Will definitely be reaching out to management tomorrow morning. I was given $.57 in change and then i was told I didn't give them $40, I only gave them $25. After trying to get that straight, I was told to pull up by a post, where I sat waiting for 20 minutes for food. She watches every nickel she spends as she doesn't receive much money from Medicare each month. She didn't have enough money for the dinner she wanted. Want to do a quick review on the Crystal River KFC. First, it's a fast food chicken place, we're not talking upscale dining here. As for me, I have run a soup kitchen and been lead chef. Further, I am a bbq pitmaster as well as having a safe serve certificate. Finally, I am a bit of a foodie bit certainly not pretentious. So how do I rate this KFC location? Over the last few years I have very occasionally eaten here. I find the chicken itself to be fresh and juicy and the original crust tasty, even the spices adding to the general flavor. Most of the times I have ate here the cole slaw is very good, basically what the franchise target would be. The biscuits, if gotten before mid afternoon are as intended and at this location not hard or dry. These are decent biscuits even good for a KFC but not as great southern biscuits can be. The mashed potatoes are average while the gravy is above average for a KFC. The extra crispy version did not add to the flavor so I would stick with the original. The folks at the counter were courteous and seemed to care about the customer. Bathroom cleanliness did vary significantly over time. General restaurant cleanliness was somewhat above average.Overall a much better than typical KFC and not deserving of the low ratings typically assigned to fast food restaurants. read more

My family was on vacation and we wanted to go out and eat. All we could find that looked good was KFC so we went inside and ordered. It was mostly empty, we sat down and waited, it took a while to get our food. When we got it the fries were cold, the Mac and cheese was also cold and chewy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were cold and hard none of the food was really good. Two of us felt sick after we finished. they don't sweep and mom behind the counter they serve old coleslaw and mac n cheese they only spray off their kitchen utensils they wipe off the tables with dirty rags they clean off there whisks and scoops in the same water the dirty rags sit in nothing is fresh after 7 pm very rude and mean employees poor communication skills and every manager is an air head and don't know what they're doing will mess up your paycheck and you will not get payed on time. very unsanitary and multiple times have seen under cooked and not cooked at all biscuits being served and the cookies sit out all week long read more
