This place is definitely going bankrupt, they never have fresh chicken and there's always a 20-30 minute wait.

This place has been on my list for a long time, so when we were passing through Lima, we just had…read moreto check it out. I picked this location because of the art deco building. We had to find street parking because there was nowhere to park. We ordered burgers, fries, a small soda, a medium malt, and a slice of sugar cream pie. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The way they do things is a little different. They put a tray right in front of you and prepare your order as you watch. Very efficient! An interesting thing to note is that the small soda is the smallest soda cup I've ever seen. It holds around 6 ounces, so I recommend ordering the large because it's only 30 cents more. My cheeseburger was under $4 for 1/4 lb, so very reasonably priced. I selected my toppings (tartar sauce, onions, lettuce, and pickles), and my hubby got a double cheeseburger with bacon and added miracle whip, lettuce, onions, and tomato. Another interesting thing is that they use miracle whip instead of mayo. They also use butter lettuce, which I've never seen on fast food burgers. It was a nice touch. Our burgers were really good, but my hubby wouldn't get miracle whip again because it has an overpowering flavor. The fries were good, though a bit dry. The malt was like a chocolate Wendy's frosty, but so much better! It was really busy the whole time we were there, including a nonstop drive thru line that went into the street. Kewpee's is obviously very popular with the locals, and I can see why.

The Mac and cheese came from like a Gordon's food service kind of situation and the coleslaw was bitter. Hush puppies were burnt. I've never had good service at captain beyond circa 1999 but at least you could count on the quality of food. Not anymore....

This is a LONG overdue review of what might be the best Captain D's I've ever visited. Seriously…read more My partner and I were returning home and passed through Lima when I saw the sign for Captain D's and had to stop. Who can resist a 2-piece with fries, a breadstick, and extra crunchies? From the moment I walked up to the door I could tell this was a very different kind of Captain D's... 1.) anyone who frequents Captain D's knows they're not usually in the most desirable locations, and as such, the staff isn't always that fastidious about the outside appearance of the establishment. Not here. No trash rolling around in the parking lot, empty (rather than overflowing) trash cans, and a generally tidy parking lot. Good sign #1. 2.) anyone who frequents Captain D's knows when you open the door a wave of seafoody-antiseptic-like aroma HITS you in the face. Not here. It just smelled like a restaurant, not a seafood restaurant. I never imagine such a thing could be possible at a Captain D's. Great sign #2. 3.) anyone who frequents Captain D's knows the average employee is not is excited to be there, and it shows in the effort they put forth. Not here. These (clearly overwhelmingly high school) employees were on their game: I was greeted upon entry, folks were smiling, they were communicating clearly and politely with each other in front and behind the counter, the (young) manager was hustling just as much as the staff, and the dining area was clean. Fantastic sign #3. I actually enjoyed (rather than dreaded) waiting for my to-go order. The manager double-checked it before sending it out the door (a brilliant 1-second step that saves a mountain of potential issues on the back-end), and I was on my way. Everything was perfectly cooked, my meal was delicious, and I'm actually considering a special trip back through Lima in the coming months just so I can visit this particular Captain D's again. Y'all have something special here. Whether it's the training, the small-town solidarity, the youthful exuberance (LOTS of eager high school folks doing great work!), or just a general sense of pride in your jobs, Captain D's lucked out to get a crew like you.
