I have loved KFC my entire life. The experience at this restaurant was the worst I have ever had. Biscuits taste like plain flour. Water had more flavor than the gravy. Finally, the chicken was over cooked and bland. I could not taste any of the herbs and spices that KFC is famous for. I will try another location to see if this is just this store. First off, if you have a sign on your door stating you need a mask to enter then you as the employee better be wearing that mask! (Which he was not..) The grilled chicken was horrible. So dry, tasted like it had sat in the warming oven for way too long. The tenders varied so much. One was full and delicious with a crispy crust, the other was barely any chicken- just fried batter. The employee taking my money also used his hands to grab French fries. I was so grossed out I didn't eat the fries. He also charged me too much. If I could leave a negative star rating I would. This place is a joke. I waited atleast 15 minutes before someone came to the counter to help me they kept taking the drive thru orders first. Then someone from the back yelled up front and td us waiting in line to use the kiosk... This started a slow boil... i Don't work their there for why should I have to type my own order into the computer?? I commented to the guy that finally came to take my order about drive thru being top priority and he said it always is. I told him that was bullshit to keep a customer waiting who walked in the door over someone sitting in their car. so after he took my order and I waited even longer he brings me a bag that didn't even remotely come close to what I ordered. While waiting for my order o witnessed 3 people come in because they had gotten the wrong order through drive thru or things were missing. we took our grand kids there to eat November 5 about 4 o'clock Rensselaer time and it left a lot to be desired corn was so dried out it was not edible. I prefer these KFC Buffets to the regular KFC eateries and this one is conveniently accessible from I-65. We stopped in at 2pm and there was no line at register or buffet table and we're greeted courteously. For 2 of us with drinks, about $18. They give senior discounts. The buffet table was fully stocked and the food was appropriate temperature. You get plenty of side choices with both KFC versions of fried chicken. Regular and extra crispy of LARGE pieces. Where to start. Guy on counter had no sense of customer service. Staring into space. As he helped people he had gloves on. He then washed tables, cleared trash handles money while eating and never changed gloves let alone wash his hands. Now we go to the "buffet". I say this sarcastically. All hot sides were empty dried pans. This was 6pm. Should be peak dinner hour. Guess the lack of people should have tipped me off. So as a serve safe certified person and former instructor, I mentioned it quietly to manager. Did not want to cause a scene. I now know why the employee did not care. The manger looked at me and said sorry and walked off. I would not suggest this place unless there are not even gas stations open for food. Place is terrible. So some of you may be reading this and wondering, "Why are you giving KFC of all places a perfect rating? It's KFC, not HBFC." And I would be one of those people. But hear me out. As an alumni of IU, I would always make the commute from home to Bloomington by car, and every time I would pass by the billboard sign for the KFC buffet in Rensselaer, I swore I would try it, just to say that I did. Time passed. I graduated. And not once in my four years did I try the Colonel's buffet. Fast forward to last weekend, after a rousing weekend in Indianapolis visiting my best college buddy and various other friends, I found myself driving north on I-65 Sunday morning. I passed by the billboard sign once again, advertising the buffet as it always did. And something inside me clicked. Now, it felt as though was right time. I got off the highway at exit 215 for the first time, and drove into the KFC parking lot, just as they unlocked the doors to open at 10am. Now, it was DEFINITELY the right time. I was greeted enthusiastically by the manager, who smiled and asked if I wanted the buffet. I said, "Oh, yeah." He laughed, rang me up, gave me a plate, and proceeded to hand me as many orange ginger and honey BBQ sauces as I wanted. Now, the food. Let's not mince words: it's KFC. But it was KFC that was pulled fresh out of the cooker. And not just dinky wings or thighs... Legs. And breasts. BIG, JUICY BREASTS. I have never been more satisfied with four giants breasts in front of me since...I digress... Fresh cooked chicken in all varieties, with all the coleslaw, corn, green beans, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes with not one, but TWO kinds of gravy, peach cobbler, and bread pudding I could handle, with a clean table and facilities, a friendly, attentive staff, all for $8.55, $6.95 on Monday nights? KFC, yes. But it's a buffet. Oh man, talk about messing up your diet. You can go in here and eat all the fried and grilled chicken possible. Also they have two kinds of gravy so you can really add calories by cutting a biscuit in half and pouring on both kinds. There are so many customers going through here that the food looks kinda picked over most of the time. This is in spite of the crack staff of 10 or 15 people lounging around at various places behind the counter. Although we were like 25 mins till closing we had limited options on their menu to choose from but couldn't cook some Nashville chicken, I don't know if it's just coincidence that a surge of customers start arriving and ordering and get a new batch of chicken...Otherwise service was quick and prices reasonable. This particular KFC in my opinion is they best. The buffet is my favorite with having chicken and noodles (dumplings) on it. Fried okra, gizzards..... The Colonel would be proud. I live about an hour away so when near by I go. I've tried Lowell's, crown points but always disappointed, chicken is dry, and they don't have the noodles! read more

Staying overnight near this place we decided to have some KFC for dinner. The first thing we noticed were the trash cans right inside the doors were overflowing with trash. We stepped up to the counter and the girl who took our order was very pleasant and efficient in taking our order. We then decided to pick a table while our food was being prepared. Nearly every table was dirty and the floors were worse. I can see if they were busy but there was maybe one or two other customers dining. We didn't use the restrooms as our hotel was nearby but I would imagine they weren't anything to brag about. Hopefully they will step up their game and take more pride in their franchise. I would have given this place more stars but cleanliness in a restaurant is a must. read more

We are seasonal and visit this area 6 months out of the year. Last year I would definitely give this KFC smorgasbord 5 Stars and this year we visited this Renssalear KFC for the first time this season on May 31st again for the smorgasbord and this time ONE Star. There was NO KFC "Original" Chicken (only the extra crispy and the other had some sort of reddish sauce, maybe BBQ?). There was hardly any chicken out and it was noon. The salad section of the buffet was virtually empty and I would never take the stuff that probably was sitting there for who knows how long. They never came out with "original" pieces during our visit and people were all having to ask for chicken to be put out. For the last several years there was a very nice lady who managed this place and this year she was not there and the place must have been remodeled over the winter. I will visit here one more time this season and see if it is any better .... needs to be like 100% better as it was last year. Just not the same! read more
