There's an art party (holla, holla)…read more It's really a simple formula, but it works for me as a parent. Drop child off at Art Party Place. Pick up said child three hours later. Child comes home happy and with a pile of craft projects. Rinse and repeat for one week. Owner Susan Gardner used to hold craft camp each summer at her home in Waunakee. I heard about craft camp last summer from a neighbor and signed my daughter up, not knowing what to expect. My daughter had a blast and the price was very reasonable. A win-win! Fast forward to the summer of 2013 when Susan opened Art Party Place in a nearby office park. It's a fun little shop full of cool crafting supplies (that's what my daughter tells me, and she's the expert when it comes to crafting). You can enroll your child for a half day (three hour) or a full day (six hour) session. Each day has a different theme with different projects. I've watched Susan in action at craft camp and she is energetic and engaging. The camp participants definitely seem to enjoy themselves. So if you live in the Waunakee area and are looking for a kid-friendly activity, consider Art Party Place.

She has taken that common problem and created a solution that allows some piece of mind and gives youth with disabilities the tools they need to be educated in the world of relationships. Her training helps students identify boundaries, learn self-advocacy skills, social media relationships, and be able to identify right from wrong using vocabulary to help youth identify what relationship words mean, and what they are choosing to agree or not agree to. I have only had one student seek Ellen's expertise as her business is new, but she made tremendous gains with a young woman who many identified concern for regarding her relationships with others (mostly boys, men, and strangers). If you're looking for a learning experience about healthy relationships for your youth with a disability, she has the experience and the curriculum I have been looking for in supporting our youth!

GiGis gets together with Madison Area Down Syndrome Society for playgroups now and then to connect more families. They also have a small library of a sort with books ranging from children's to adult. We also attended a Fitness, Family and Friends class which was great for kids. There were only two children with Down Syndrome (my daughter included) but the volunteer teacher and other volunteers were amazing with my girl and tried very hard to get her to engage more. She was still enthralled with the toys at the center, so we only got her to do fitness for a few brief seconds. However, I really enjoyed it. My other daughter walked in and was so amazed at the fact that there were other people that looked like her sister, I loved meeting other families in many different stages of parenting their child or adult. I truly wish I'd had this resource as a new parent, but love that it's available still now and for years to come. The volunteers know that these children tend to run at their own speed and make it a fun experience for parents, children and siblings. Can't wait for more time here!
