The money they raise stays local, and helps with hospices, clinics, and research. It is amazing to see Jefferson and the surrounding communities come together to help their friends, families and neighbors. If you ever have the chance to attend a Tomorrow's Home event be sure to do it. They are well planned, well run, and a lot of fun. We couldn't be luckier to have such a great organization in our community!

The…read moreSJC currently holds seven organizations i(in one "small-looking-from-the-outside but impressive inside); the Tenant Resource Center, Progressive Dane, Madison Community Coop, WYOU, Dane County Time Bank, and VSA Wisconsin. "The incubator " which you can rent for $160/mo for progressive non-profits comes with a conference room, Internet, kitchenette, parking space in the lot, use of phones, Facsimile, restroom etc. all in a very convenient space to set up shop for progressive non-profit organizations in the Madison community. The Jackie Macaulay Gallery is a social justice art gallery with 17 previous displays including "Willy Street in the 70's"; (my personal fav) covers the entire first floor of the Nan Cheney Community Room and is open for viewing from 9-6, Monday through Friday. There's a beautiful mural outside on the wall so the building is easy to spot coming from the west. A convenient space to set up small community meetings of less than 20 people, the Nan Cheney Community Room is offered for use for a small fee and two months advanced notice. It's convenient location on Willy Street where there are many unique stores, co op, and fun, friendly people, a beautiful little neighborhood that represents Madisonian's perfectly. Next time you're in the neighborhood, stop in and see the awesome art exhibits.

I love the Madison Reading Project! They are a non profit that helps ensure that children have good…read morequality books in their hands! The Madison Reading Project has a mobile book mobile that they use to bring books to children for special events such as a recent bike giveaway held at the school I work at. Each child received a free book!! A few weeks later I received an email stating it was my turn to come to their store to shop for 25 books for my classroom at no cost! They do this to help teachers and specialists build up their classroom libraries to help foster a joy of reading and build literacy skills in children. They accept book donations, are always looking for volunteers and host fundraisers like the recent Ready to Wear fashion show where all clothing was made only of paper--no fabric. The Madison Reading Project is a great non profit to support!

I haven't been here in quite a while, but I wanted to give them a shout out and say what I know…read moreabout them. I cannot do them justice since they have many programs here to help members of our community that I haven't worked with. I have volunteered here a few times when I was a student through UW-Milwaukee. I helped bag groceries to be handed out to members of the community who needed help. They work very hard to create a balanced bag nutritionally each time such as protein, breakfast items, meat/ eggs, fruits/ veg, dessert (if they have any), soup, pasta/ rice, and a few other types of items I'm forgetting. When they have fresh fruits and vegetables they place them out for people to pick from. They also let people pick out bread items. The number of bags people receive depends on family size. They also have baby food items for those who need them. I also organized personal cleaning supplies (keep the good stuff, throw out the bad/ expired, put out the smaller stuff for people to pick out for free when they came to pick up food, etc). I thought this was really nice of them to have available, many people looked through the baskets once I started filling them. The staff is very kind to those who come in needing assistance and try to help. The area I worked in was basic but clean. They treat the community members that need help with respect (I've seen orgs where they don't treat people very well, this is not one of those orgs!). Great place to help the local community and for people to receive assistance. I've only scratched the surface as to what this nonprofit does for the community, check out their website. Time/ money/ personal donations brought here are not wasted!
