They recently changed management of the place, but I found the new instructors to be even more passionate and focused on passing down the craft of karate to the new generation. It may seem like they teach Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art, but they do teach Karate, though with a Korean perspective. It's not surprising that there are commonalities between the 3 arts because Karate and Tan So Do (and many more martial arts) are heavily influenced by Chinese martial arts, so there's a common lineage either way. read more

I took my kiddo here for the Capital Deal we bought were we go a Gi (karate uniform), and intro lesson and 2 group classes for $20. The teacher/owner (?) was extremely nice, worked patiently with my uber shy daughter during the intro lesson. The uniform is very high quality. My daughter did ok with the 1st lesson, but we are going to wait on the 2nd lesson until she's a little older/more mature. There is a required 9 month contract, which is kind of daunting, and the classes are 2x a week for 30 min. They are expanding into the office next to them soon, so it will be able to accommodate more students, and multiple levels at the same time. They don't believe in competitions, and are not a religious karate class. read more

Kick's karate at Rockville really horrible, the manager Mathew Gray yell and discriminate people like me who is not native speaker when I was just inquire/ask my son's eligibility for belt test. He told me he has the authorities for being a dictator- doing things all in his way. He showed a very rude attitude and yelling at me when I inquire if there is executive level to talk what specific requirements for the belt test. He yelled at me like I am an idiot. I don't see how this type of person can be role model for our young generation. Many people complain when you write to him or call him for stop the contract, he will not respond at all because he uses this ignore game to keep charge your money even if you don't like there anymore read more

So far, so good! Matt took his time explaining everything to us when we took Jason in for a preview. What this place offers is extreme flexibility. We signed up for 2x a week classes (Little Ninjas) and if you miss a class, the make up is very easy to do. The location is very convenient as it is right here in our neighborhood. Sitting in on one of his classes, I was impressed with the instructors that kept the kids' attention-span and focus on the class. All of the kids seemed to treat it as fun as opposed to yet another class! The uniforms supplied are very rugged and durable. Kudos to them for not taking short-cuts with cheap material! I have both of my kids enrolled at Kicks in King Farm. The staff is friendly AND patient. This is especially comforting for me considering my 4 year old daughters 3 second attention span :) They have recently expanded. They took over the space next door (it used to be some eye place). The classes are now less full, which is a plus. It gives the staff more of an opportunity to interact 1 on 1 with the students. They also have some great programs they do year round. My son has attended this location of Kicks Karate for years now. He loves it! Kids learn the Tao Soo Do martial art, body control, respect for leadership and each other. One of our relatives is involved with a martial art school out of state. This school had more ribbons on the wall then paint. They allowed my son to attend for a day. He was easily the best student there. This is very much a real martial arts school. The instructors take their time with the kids. Older kids are asked not only to do more then younger kids, but if they are good role models they are asked to be junior instructors. Some of the junior instructors have really been an influence in my son's karate life. My son wants to one day influence others in the same positive manner. If your child comes on the recommended schedule they will be able to progress in the belt system very quickly. If your child is in other sports or you are unable to attend on a regular bases they allow you to continue training until you have all of the goals met. This allows dedicated kids to progress and kids who have other activities to continue in the over all program. I have personally recommended this school to family, friends and neighbors. read more

My daughter attended the school for two years. She did not learn how to do much but I kept her just because she was having fun and this place was close. When we decided to leave Mr. Gray gave us a real hard time. He was very mean and unreasonable about it and made us pay for two months even though my daughter did not want to continue. Its a complete joke! Kids learn nothing and the place is too expensive to make the matters worst the belt tests are every 4-5 months. I would say save your money and find a better program. read more

My son started about a month ago and he loves it. I wanted him to mainly work on his listening skills and self discipline. He's still a work in progress but it's getting there. The instructors are awesome and very patient. My son tells me that his favorite instructor is Ms.J. I would recommend this school to anyone. I am a single mom and it's worth every penny. My son will be 3 in Sept and so we took him to "try-out" well he was really excited until we open the door and the older kids in the current class are screaming "hiiii-yahhhhh" freaked my little guy out :(. But the staff meet us at the door took us to the office and explained everything to us. We conviced my son to kick the paper and hit the board but he was scared still. He watched the little kids for a bit but he was just not having it. The young lady I think her name Jocelyn was awesome! She was really sweet and honest. She was not trying to just sign us up and get our money!! She let us know that we should maybe try the one month instead of the 9 month. Just to ensure he likes the class, which made me feel great knowing they do not want just another monthly payment from us but really want him to be ready! So she gave us a few options and let us watch the class. The 2 girls teaching the class were doing great with the little ones (3 and 4 year olds). They knew how to talk to them and the class seems to be fun. Once we left my son couldn't stop talking about it and wants to go back as long as the "big kids" are not there! lol. So I guess we will try again in a few weeks, I will not take him to any other place though. The staff is awesome and the other parents were nice as well. They get to attend 2 classes a week and I think that was $159 a month which in retro-spect is not that bad if your child is going to stick with it. I think we will take him back in the new year give him a few more months to get ready. She did let us know they teach through the City of Rockville as well. read more

She started out as a Little Ninja, and is now in the children's class, and through hard work, have reached the brown belt level. From day one, we have been thoroughly impressed with Kicks Karate. Their instructor staff is great. The classes are structured in a way that will keep the students focus through the class, and they mix in some play and fun, still with a focus on martial arts, which is especially valuable for the younger kids, who sometimes can have a short attention span. Kicks Karate has become a very important part of our lives. It has helped channel Matthew's energy and has provided him with an ongoing, productive challenge for his intellect and his athleticism. We love his school, but we struggle to find challenges for him there. Having a place that offers him productive stimulation means a great deal. Karate keeps him focused in multiple aspects of his life, including his piano lessons, Cub Scouts, and his schoolwork. Dont be fooled. My daughter was going there i decided to stop taking her because Work was slow and did not find the value of this Clases are overcrowded they keep bringing new kids in order to make more money. They do "Belt tests" very often in order to get more money from you. They just pass everyone. The problem is when you want to cancel. You have to tell them 3 months in advance! I did not know. Even when my daughter did not attend they charged me for the 3 months! I think this is a sneaky way to do business. Best check Montgomery county department of recreation.
