On the fence about joining and trying Jiu Jitsu? Just do it! I am a young female that was interested in self-defense. At first, I thought that meant Krav Maga. I reached out to a couple different places and Infinite Fighting Concepts was the only place that got back to me -- and quickly. They follow up without being too pushy either. Right from the start, it is clear that Coach Jeff and his staff care about who you are and why you are there. Coach Jeff is certified and highly trained in several martial arts and, after inviting me to one of his beginner classes, explained why Jiu Jitsu was a better fit for me and my goals. I watched the beginner class and was hooked. Here is what I love about this community: (1) I'm not sure how busy the beginner classes were before COVID but the class sizes are perfect right now. Between 10 and 15 people show up for the weekly evening classes allowing for more personalized training. (2) People with varying skill levels show up for the beginner classes and the more experienced students are very helpful. (3) The classes are supposed to be ~45 minutes (it goes by way too fast!) but if we haven't finished curriculum entirely by the end of the class, Coach Jeff and his staff don't cut the class short. They make sure that the material is taught and that everyone gets a chance to practice. (4) The membership cost is extremely reasonable, especially given the rigor of the training and the skill of the people teaching the classes. My two young boys take jiu jitsu at IFC, and they love it! My husband and I toured a few martial arts schools, but when we visited IFC, we knew it was a good fit for our family. The facility is clean and everything is very organized. The coaches are great with my kids, but they are still strict enough to keep all the students in-line. There are many things that sold me on having my husband, and two sons practice jiu-jitsu at this gym, but the #1 thing that sold me is that the gym is completely family friendly, and they have classes that appeal to all genders and age groups. They offer a variety of classes to fit busy schedules such as ours. The instruction is hands down the best I've ever seen. Jeff is very passionate, and hands down the most knowledgable instructor I've ever seen (we are military and move every two years, have been to many gyms.. So that says a lot.) These kids are the most well taught, and well trained I've ever seen. My two sons have not only benefited from jiu Jitsu lessons as far as physical fitness, but their discipline and respect for not only this sport, but in school has improved dramatically. Parents know how important it is to keep your kids busy.. Coach Jeff has taught my kids to keep practicing, even at home, so my sons are constantly improving on their technique. I have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu at IFC since January 2016. The environment at IFC strikes a balance of being serious and driven about training, but also friendly and supportive to meet everyone's needs. It is a fun place to be. I feel like part of a community, and not just another warm body paying membership dues. The students who train at IFC are friendly, down-to-earth people who care about helping each other improve. I felt comfortable right away from my very first class. The training curriculum is highly structured and carefully planned out. Jeff, the owner and one of the black belt instructors, sets the tone. He leads classes with a lot of drive and energy, and knows how to create an atmosphere that is really enjoyable to come and train in. The school has another black belt instructor, Tony Passos, who teaches the advanced jiu jitsu classes. Tony is very positive, upbeat and passionate, and it is obvious he cares deeply about being a good coach. His approach to teaching is so well thought-out it is almost scientific, and he breaks things down into practical concepts that really make a lot of sense. Since I have been training at IFC, I feel my jiu jitsu has improved leaps and bounds in a very short time. I have not yet tried judo, boxing or Muay Thai, but often watch those classes in progress, and I am impressed with the level of fitness and skill the students demonstrate, as well as the knowledge and dedication of the instructors. I don't have any kids, but from what I have seen of the kids' classes, I'd say Jeff and the other instructors offer solid structure and discipline to the kids, but also teach with a lot of humor and encouragement. It is so great to see the kids have so much fun learning and I am amazed at their jiu jitsu skills! I would definitely recommend this school, whatever your goals are - whether you want to compete, learn self-defense, or just want to get fit and have fun doing it, I think you will find that IFC has something for you. read more

Jumping into BJJ has been one of the best decisions I have made in life so far, but joining IFC has truly changed my life for the better. IFC is a very welcoming and helpful gym in the sense that it is a very judge free zone no matter your background coming into whichever martial art you choose, everyone was a beginner at some point and knows what it feels like to be the new guy who knows nothing. The coaches/ instructors (Jeff, Chupa, Bulgarito, David, Bamba, Billy & Kwak) are some of the most humble, knowledgeable, and hungry for information individuals I have had the pleasure of working and training with. Every single one of them takes the time to see what you're really made of and encourages you to grow from there and to keep pushing yourself to never settle. There is no secret to becoming good at BJJ, it takes time and commitment, so if you're looking for some magical advice that'll help your game, I'll save you the time from asking everyone else, it's simple.. KEEP COMING. You have to put the time in on the mat in order to make progress no matter where you go and this is the place to do it, whether you're trying to lose weight, learn self- defense, or just try something new to get out of your comfort zone, the people here have been there and know what it takes to achieve those goals and overcome any obstacle. Awesome place. I am extremely lucky to have such a great gym so close to my home. I accidentally stumbled across this diamond in the ruff. The gym is huge and always taken care of and clean. It does not smell like sweat when you walk in like a lot of other bjj gyms I've been to. I have only had the classes under Coach Jeff but he is extremely knowledgeable and a straight up tactician. I see a lot of really good habits that I need to develop quickly when I watch him roll. Just AMAZING!!! Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good students too. The students come to class ready and I would say they are BEASTS but they are soooo respectful, helpful and very welcoming too. I came to join a gym and work out and learn in the process but accidentally find myself in a brotherhood. Words can't explain how lucky I am to have found this gym. Can't wait to go in as long as my body can handle it hahahaha. Everyday I go in I get a great work out and get to learn and train with THE BEST!!! I have just started but I did take Gracie Ju Jitsu in California and had been lucky enough to work out and roll with Wally Jay in Alameda California before he passed away and have taken soooooo many other martial arts as well. I have mixed feelings on IFC. I've flipped around on my review. And even for this review, I was going between 1 and 2 stars-this is really 1.5 I have settled on what i hope to be a constructively critical review. It was great in the honeymoon phase, then I started to notice some flaws, such as schedule changes (which Jeff did call to explain), and now that I've been away and considered a return, I'm coming to the conclusion there are things I would want to see improved before I could make a commitment back. For those of you who don't have time to read the review here are highlights BJJ coaching: **** MT Coaching *** Facilities, ** Management * The owner, Jeff, is passionate about BJJ. But, if you don't want to do BJJ this may be just an average place for you. And it's maybe below average in business management-read on. I am a former member, who trained both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. I wasn't there for "just a workout", I wanted to learn. And, I would say, overall I learned. BJJ coaching is much more consistent because Jeff is present for most classes and there is a flow. I noticed when I was training there, we would focus on a certain technique for about two weeks or so to hone in and perfect it. Jeff understand BJJ, certainly. Every so often there will be a bonus class, in which a guest comes in for a seminar. Of course, you pay for the seminar, but it seems like the people coming through are quite good. (I had never had the money or time to attend a seminar). So, the BJJ part of the gym definitely ranks quite highly. Move across the mat to MT and we have to start taking away from the rating. I felt that MT for me was easier to get into. For the most part, BJJ was a "boys club" as there were no regular females when I was training regularly. There are some that came in toward the tail end of my tenure there though and I still see they are there. Anyways, back to MT. I had a friend training regularly so that made it more fun, and I liked being on my feet. I also felt that yes, I needed striking as part of my defense. (At first, I loved BJJ and hated MT because BJJ is better for smaller people to leverage body mechanics in their advantage. No joke). As I grew to like MT, I became frustrated at the lack of consistency. There are several coaches for MT, and there was no set curriculum when i was there. One coach had tried, but he left for another gym shortly after. While no coach was "bad", we never had the chance to practice and hone in on our technical skills. But IFC had the most MT classes/week so I stuck it out. And I didn't ever feel as if the people just doing MT were really visible to the gym--the focus was always on BJJ. When I stopped going to BJJ, I didn't feel as "at home" there. I was told after I left on nights when there are advanced BJJ classes coming in, Muay Thai people are not allowed to work the bags any longer. (This is second hand knowledge) The gym is slightly small when there's a full house. Now they've crammed crossfit in there too, and lost some mat space. The ladies room is alright, there are a few pieces of wobbly furniture and some standard lockers. There is a toilet and sink which are mostly clean, though it's tiny and there are no showers. There is often no soap in the container too. Oh, and there were always these really strong air fresheners. Even Planet Fitness has nicer locker rooms. There was a time when part of the wall was ripped open, exposing the pipes. With the pads, YMMV. Some are new and in great shape, others are worn. I suggest you run when they say to grab pads, so that you get the ones you prefer. (I actually prefer worn in ones. New ones bruise me a lot). My final gripe is the pricing. I know, I know. it's expensive to run a gym. There's rent, insurance, salaries, etc. Hell, LA fitness will cost you what, $45/month? And that's just to have access to the equipment. So I know gyms are expensive. I was contemplating going back to the gym after a hiatus. I talked with several people about what they pay, as I was trying to budget and decide if it was something I could afford. Two people without contract told me they paid x amount, which was very reasonable, and I was confident I could budget. And I liked that they weren't on contract. I was willing to sign a contract, since I will be in the area for at least a year.I had hoped that I could get the same price. I was quoted two prices (one for contract, one for no contract), My contract price was 28% larger than what a friend with NO contract was paying (my NO contract price was 40% higher!). I also spoke to another friend who was off contract and also paying less than what my contract price was quoted as. Bottom line: I wanted to love IFC. I know Jeff is passionate about what he does. It's not run well though, and the emphasis on BJJ can be a little hard to swallow if you're not on that side of the mat too. read more

My son's and I have trained at Xavier jiu-jitsu and elite mma in Houston, TX, plus my oldest son has trained at Guillobel jiu-jitsu in San Clemente, CA, so we have a some other academy experience to compare. Both my sons and I train jiu-jitsu with Coach Jeff. Great family environment and great training. If you want to get great/tough training, clean facilities, professional staff, and great customer service, then this is the place for you and your family. One way they can improve is by offering women only classes with all female staff. They also need a class that is only for 13-16 years of age, but that is hard to accomplish and I have not seen that in any other academy. There class schedule is consistent and their prices are lower than other academies, which really makes it possible for an entire family to accomplish all their fitness and self-defense needs there. They offer a variety of fitness and self-defense classes that appear to be lots of fun, but challenging. We have only trained jiu-jitsu, so my review is mostly based on that jiu-jitsu. More teenagers ages 13-16 are needed and more females too, so try it out and that way more classes for teenagers and females can be opened. The students there are very friendly and my sons have met great friends, so they love going to train and i dont have to push it on them. I highly recommend for the entire family. read more

I started training in July and I absolutely love it...its very intense..the classes are set up so you can fully understand the concepts of bjj and they take there time with making sure u get the logistics of each and every move. These instructors also compete themselves so I feel very confident in them and what they teach because they always come back with medals!!! Looking for a gym that isn't an intimidating space to get involves in martial arts, look no further. Infinite MMA is a very welcoming space that allows you to slow transition from learning the basics to some hard nose sparring. The Jiu jitsu here is world class. Coach jeff is a seasoned coach who has done it all in the sport. But more importantly knows how to teach you to et better and improve technique. The muay thai and boxing program is solid too. From just getting your feet wet to some full contact sparring. You slowly and effectively transition from getting down technique to being comfortable in the ring having fun and getting better. On the last Saturday of May 2017, I walked into Infinite Fighting Concepts Academy for the first time; 64 years old, morbidly obese, out of shape, suffering from various medical conditions and pretty darn beaten down mentally. Little did I know that I had just made one of the biggest steps forward in my life. My first impression was that the facility itself was clean, bright and well cared for. The students I observed all appeared to be relaxed and comfortable in the environment and the coach was professional yet friendly. All checkmarks in the positive. I met that day with Professor Jeff Gordon, who listened carefully to what my goals and expectations were. During that initial meeting I told him I needed to be strong physically, mentally, and have the ability to defend myself. He was very open, honest, and forthright regarding the obstacles I faced, as well as what he would demand of me; Within minutes knew I had finally found the person who possessed not only the requisite skill set and experience but as strong a will to succeed as I had. Over the last 2 years my life has improved beyond even my expectations. I have lost over 100 pounds, stronger physically and mentally, my health has improved enough to stop or reduce medications, and while learning self-defense is a long-term endeavor, I think I could actually make a decent effort in defending myself, at least I'm not a sitting duck anymore! The coaches and other students at the Academy are as they seemed that first day; I cannot tell you how many times I have been approached with words of support, general banter and encouragement. When I started this process, training was something I had to do, over the course of the last year training has become the centerpiece of my "makeover", and something that I want to do, a major shift in attitude. I have had my share of scrapes, bumps, bruises and back steps along the way, but as always, my coach is there to slap a Band-Aid on me or talk with me about overcoming obstacles. He is one of the few people I truly admire for his skills, competence, humor, and that force of will that matches mine. Asking questions helps you grow as an athlete, which ever sport, so you can fully understand what is being taught. The classes are structured, Third, the kids BJJ program is awesome. I was enrolled in the Muay Thai class for a year, and the gym is fantastic. Having no prior experience in martial arts, I was a little intimidated at first, but the coaches are all experienced and went out of their way to help me if I was struggling. I get a good workout and learn something new coming out of every class. A typical one hour class would be composed of a 10 minute warm-up, and then drills of whatever technique we were focusing on for the day (kicks, punches, elbows, knees, footwork, blocks) with a partner, ending with cool-down stretches. Throughout the class, the teacher would walk around to observe individual people and correct any improper technique. The coaches do a phenomenal job providing one-on-one help and feedback. Overall, I really enjoyed my year training here and would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to get into martial arts! read more

I chose to give 5 stars because Infinite Fighting Concepts ("IFC") really is as good as it gets. I read through the reviews and was disappointed with the most recent ones who chose to bash the owner and head coach because their ego was hurt. I am a parent at IFC whose children train daily in the kids BJJ classes, and last week, I witnessed first hand how disrespectful people can be. The hostile behavior displayed by one of the customers, who is most likely one of the recent reviewers, was absolutely distasteful and unacceptable for any establishment to have to deal with and for any children, like my own children who were with me, to see. This guy really thought he could just sign up and without any formal training, jump into an invitation-only advanced class without earning that honor. The coach explained to the customer that he could join any other windows except for the 6:30 pm class as it was for those who had certain amount of classes and training. But it became evident that the guy's ego was too big for his own good, so he caught a HUGE tantrum in front of the entire facility and refused to leave the premises. I'm surprised the coach did not call the police, but I guess it would have totally disrupted the schedule and that day, it was full. Well, this customer apparently recruited friends who live NO WHERE near the facility i.e. Ocean City, MD, Towson, MD etc. to bash an establishment they have never been to and a person they've never met. The purpose of Yelp, is to review establishments or products based on one's own experience, not to gang-up and cyber bully people. My experience is nothing like the last 3 reviews for this establishment. I have a son with Autism and a young daughter who train in BJJ daily at IFC and it has been the best investment ever! Both of my children were scorned from weeks and months of abuse by the same bully at their school who repeatedly badgered them and physically assaulted them throughout the entire school year. The parents of the bully were uncooperative and in denial, the school system did absolutely nothing to protect them, the local county, police and court systems failed them, leaving it up to the school to handle the bullying, so we were caught between a hard rock and a wall and no where to turn to. I decided it was time to take it ol' school and have my kids learn how to physically defend themselves. The day we stepped foot at IFC, my husband and I were sold. We signed up with 4 free trial classes and we ended up signing a contract before the class even finished. The owner of the establishment, Jeff, was very attentive and understanding of my son's condition and assured me that we were in the right place. Immediately, my children were hooked to the curriculum, the coaches and their peers. Let me just say, that not only was my son's self-esteem at his lowest, but he also suffers from sensory overload processing disorder due to his autism, and literally after 1 month into the program, I saw the dramatic change in him. His self esteem has sky rocketed and he is no longer afraid and he's learned to control his sensory issues as well. He still has his moments, but overall, he is a different child than he was when he first joined IFC. Jeff and the other coaches have all made him feel safe, helped build his confidence and push him to his potential. My daughter was also a victim of bullying by the same boy who bullied her brother. Her esteem was at its lowest, she was fragile and became completely paranoid, thinking everyone was out to hurt her because of the trauma she experienced. The day we stepped foot into IFC was the day that everything changed for the better. My daughter entered IFC as a broken little girl and she is a powerhouse today. She has competed in a dozen regional tournaments this year and has won gold in every single one of them, placing first in beginner, intermediate and now at the advanced level, beating both girls and boys mostly her age but some a little older and heavier as well. Also, she is on her way to her first major national/international tournament beginning in November and more to follow. All of her accomplishments and her level of training comes from the highest level/ elite coaching staff at IFC, starting at the top with Coach Jeff. Jeff embraces, protects and defends my daughter, along with the rest of his students, new or current, as one of his own. As a parent, that is exactly the type of leadership and trust we look to invest in because we know our children will be in the best of hands. The level of training far exceeded my expectations as this was only supposed to be a regular self-defense course for both of my children. My children have visited other facilities, just to test the waters, but they immediately want to IFC as that is where their lives were rebuilt. IFC is family. All of the parents know each other and look out for all children. If you want a family-style establishment and world class training, IFC is it. read more

I just joined IFC with my son. We have taken group and private lessons. I decided to join because I am in my mid-40s and I am not a physical person at all, thus I wanted to face some fears of mine. Jeff Gordon is extremely patient and made me and my son feel absolutely welcome. He was very honest in terms of expectations and always easy to talk to and explain the moves. I feel much more comfortable and I like the sessions much more than I ever thought I would, as my initial move was just to overcome some apprehensions and now I look forward to the sessions. Jeff is a true master of his craft. This is not kicks karate where belts are handed out. It is not ab out belts, rather it is about true learning of the field. I started training at IFC in July of 2015 and have just made a year of training. I have trained primarily Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also Muay Thai and have always had a wonderful experience here. The instructors are fantastic, regardless of which discipline you are studying. The balance between being serious about your goals and being friendly and supportive to meet everyone's needs is astounding. I have made lifelong friends and teammates and truly feel that the folks I train with care about welcoming you as a part of their community and push you to train hard. The instructors are second to none and set the tone for the classes to be full of energy and drive and it's an enjoyable place to come and train. Jeff and Tony, as well as the other instructors are not only passionate about jiu jitsu, but about helping students learn and I couldn't ask for a better environment. I love my time spent at IFC and I recommend it to anyone looking to break into mixed martial arts. The welcoming and sense of community at this gym is unlikely to be found anywhere else. Whether you are looking for self defence, fitness or actual fighting concepts, I would recommend IFC.
