After a very challenging search for well over a year for a good estate planning lawyer (which is…read morenot all about "estate" but which, of vital import, includes health care planning and advanced health care directives)-- having culled through personal recommendations and Yelp reviews--FINALLY I found a good one in Erin Glass! Even with "stellar" personal recommendations and reviews for a number of them, (I actually have a lot of legal experience, so I probably have more knowledge for what constitutes a good lawyer than the average consumer), I was really disappointed (for deeply serious reasons) in the choices until several people directed my attention to Erin. When I interviewed her, I knew I found the right person. Having some knowledge in this area, but without being trained in law myself, her recommendations seemed very sound, helpful, logical, clear and in sync with my own research. She listened well, was very understanding and compassionate, and she was accessible and responsive. This was actually a sharp contrast to a few other experiences, so I was extremely happy to find her. She also has an amazing go-to person in Stephanie who has been so great in meeting all needs and in a timely manner. She pays attention, is a clear communicator, is responsive and serves as the glue between clients and her boss who I am sure is busy as all get out, along with seeing to the myriad details that need doing to bring all to closure. I feel very confident in and happy with this wonderful team.

Having had a couple of bad experiences with attorneys who didn't really sit down with me and my partner to assess our needs, or charged an interview fee before we really could evaluate the services offered, Erin was easy to talk to, relaxed us, made suggestions that we ourselves could work through without her, helped us put specific health concerns into helpful legal documents that could be updated later should our circumstances change. No extra fees, no problems communicating, everything relatively painless. Highly recommend this well established Bellingham legal office.

I never get "too busy" feeling taking my calls and questions, and she answers them quickly. I like that the firm has lawyers that specialize in different areas. This means they don't charge you for someone to go learn a new subject. They go ask the team member that knows the legal answer already. Great team!

Which I did. But I would email questions and not get answers and have to resend the same question and get charged again. At a time when the only reason I'm seeking their assistance is due to the death of a loved one, I expected there to be at least some kindness and helpfulness extended. There never was. I would email the same question two and three times and never get an answer, but always got corresponding charges. I started looking my questions up on the internet. Things we're at a stand still for a while, as I sold property and then needed Michael's help to finish up. Again, he would not answer questions I emailed and I even remembered asking him those questions a year earlier when this first began. He complained that my bill was high because of my constant emails. I advised him that the emails were repetitive questions. I couldn't believe that he wasn't aware of this, but now I'm certain that he was very aware of what he was doing. He was nickel-and-diming the estate and finally I had to speak with his Superior who at first refused to speak with me. When I sent him an email expressing my displeasure that he even refused to speak with me and that there was no recourse he answered and said, Michael told him that he was able to handle the situation but he knew good and well then that Michael was not handling the situation because I had sent him as a heads-up, particular documents, also complaining that Michael would not answer questions. I had to speak with his boss two times. I ended up paying twice as much as what I read online a probate should cost and we hadn't even gotten into the difficult work, when the costs would really rise. We started working on, what would he called, the Financial Statement, where he refused to include my wages as part of the financial statement. He had assigned a secretary to work with me to try to prove that I was receiving a fair payment for my work but after disbursements were made between beneficiaries, there was no money left to pay my wages. He refused 6 times to include my wages in the financial statement, all the while charging me for this repetitive work of six times, which finally pushed me to firing the law firm of Carmichael Clark. Michael had tried to get me to drop him but since I am out of state, I did not want the difficulty of trying to find another attorney but he forced me into a position of having to fire him, which now I see so clearly why he wanted me to fire him. He never told me that being out of state, I was required to have an agent. He said that I could easily finish it on my own, but Washington law does not allow for that, which I did not know and Michael knew that I did not know that. There is so much more I could say but you get the general idea. I strongly urge anyone to look for other representation. They are only interested in nickel-and-diming the client and not doing any work for it.

Jamia is an attorney who specializes in estate planning. Many people, including myself, seem to think estate planning is "optional." As a single parent in his late 40s (midlife crisis) during the COVID pandemic, I finally realized otherwise. Of course, I had no idea what documents I would need and how much it would cost. So, I sent a message from her website. Here things I like about her service: + Jamia responds to inquiries very quickly. I have almost always heard back from her on the same day. + We first spoke on the phone for a little bit. I had a consultation appointment the following week. Both of these were complimentary. + I found it very easy to talk to her and ask her questions. No matter what I do, I always have a lot of questions. She made me feel comfortable asking all my questions. + I spoke with a couple of friends who have worked with estate planning attorneys and learned that her fees are very reasonable. On top of it, she does it for a flat fee, which gives you big peace of mind when working with an attorney. I'm a linear thinker with an investigative personality! On top of it, I hate wasting things, particularly my hard earned money. That said, I usually do a LOT of research before making purchases small or big. When it comes to estate planning, all it took was Scott A.'s review. It's a really short review, and I still don't know why I was sold immediately. I did not check out other attorneys in town at all before contacting Jamia. I'm so glad that I reached out to her. I will update my review once she completes all my documents. Last but not least, I thank Scott A for his review! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If you found this review useful, please hit "useful" or "cool."
