But you should keep expectations at basic level. Pros : Teachers and administrators do seem to have a good relationship with the kids. Bright and inviting rooms and playground. Playground padded floors, has awning for shade. When compared to other daycares around the area, the price is competitive. Please take into consideration the summer activities fees when looking for daycares, it is on top of monthly fees and not optional. Food is included. Kids were kept safe and never had any injuries so that's a plus, considering the caretakers are pushed to the max and stressed. Cons : It's more like a babysitting place than a school. I don't see the kids doing crafts or learning much. It's mostly just giving them paper and crayons, or the kids just running around in chaos. The caretakers are very young in their early 20s, only there temporarily. The caretaker to kids ratio is at the max allowed. Staff turnover is high, there is a new random face taking care of the kids every month. There is no big common play area for the kids to play in the fall/winter. In spring/summer they have outdoor playground. But when it's cold, they're stuck in 1 same classroom all day. No camera for you to watch your kids throughout the day. They can use a carpet deep washing, at times it smells musty. If you're just looking for an ok place to send your kids that's fairly priced, this is your daycare. As a mom you know what you like, and when you're giving your child over to someone new, it takes time to become comfortable with the style of care. Again, first time mom problems! (lol) Ms. Mary was so patient with all of my questions, concerns, and everything in between! I'll admit, I can be an annoying overprotective mom. There have been a few incidents that have occurred during my daughter's time at KA, but Ms. Mary and the rest of the directors were SO accommodating to our needs. We are working together to help him transition between rooms (infant to toddler), and they are doing what works for him instead of just following a written routine. They work with us as a team on a daily basis and really make us feel like family. The communication we receive from Genevieve and his teachers is top notch. Whether it be sending pictures and notes throughout the day to show how he's doing, or checking in when he is having a tough time, they are in constant communication with us. They respond quickly to any questions or comments we may have as well. They were able to catch an ear infection super early because they recognized a slight change in his behavior. They have also checked to make sure everything was okay when we were running late, as our morning drop off times are pretty consistent. Our son LOVES The Heights School. At drop off, he often will blow me kisses and wave goodbye as he goes right to playing. At pickup at his previous school, he would run right to me and cling to me. There were multiple incidents of bullying and/or kids just misbehaving and the school not handling those situations properly. I had no false hope that every kid would act like an angel 100% of the time and believe I was realistic in hoping that if and when a child would not behave well, the teachers would know how to handle it- boy, was I wrong! My daughter was scratched, pushed, hit, had her leg stood on by a boy (to which the teacher just told the other kid not to do it bc my daughter didn't like it.... Because so many people would) The straw that broke the camels back was: my husband arrived to pick up my daughter and noticed a bump/bruise on her head. He asked the 3 teachers at the door what happened. They all said they didn't know. Our daughter told us that a boy (who had done other things to her in the past and sounded to be an overall behavioral issue), hit her in the head with a stick on the playground. I asked if a teacher saw. She said no. She said she told a teacher and that teacher put the kid in timeout. Ok, fine. BUT, she happened to be one of the teachers at the door that said she didn't know what happened to my daughter.... In all the time my daughter went yo the school, we felt they operated in the dark. We never received an email about any incidents and when we brought it to her teachers attention, he said he would look into it and get back to me. Never did. After this last incident, they also said they were going to investigate and interview the teachers and get back to me with their findings. They never did. It became very obvious to me that this school was all about collecting $$, but not providing even the basic service of safety, not to mention an education. I am not an unreasonable individual, and if they had just communicated when things happened and told me how they remedied it, I would have been ok. Send your child elsewhere..... there are plenty of good schools out there. This is not one of them.
