I am writing this to warn other families about Calvary Christian Academy. While Pastor Mike sermons…read morethat the church is a place for the sick on weekends, the school's practices don't align. A child must check all their boxes to get in and stay. Our son started with the preschool when they opened. He was there for 3 years, built friendships, and we helped raise money and start construction for the middle school and gymnasium. Now, ready for kindergarten, they dismissed him solely because of his ADHD--even though he scored an 80% on their readiness testing. We loved staff like Mrs. Eliza and Mrs. Mary, who were always great and smiling. However, there are ulterior motives behind staffing. The Head of School is the brother, and most school board members' wives are on staff. Unless your child fits perfectly into a box, be warned they may be cast aside regardless of loyalty.

Academically, the level felt behind where it should be--at times around two grade levels. While the school presents itself as strong academically, that was not my experience. The student environment was also not very welcoming. It was difficult to feel included, and there were issues with bullying, behavior, and racism that made the atmosphere uncomfortable. Religion was heavily emphasized throughout the school. In my experience, mistakes sometimes felt treated in a way that made students feel judged or as if they had done something morally wrong, which created a very uncomfortable environment. I also felt that some teachers did not take student concerns seriously. The principal never addressed some of the problems that were brought up, and it felt like concerns were simply ignored instead of being properly dealt with. This made it difficult to feel like speaking up would actually make a difference. Overall, the school often felt like it prioritized appearance over addressing real issues, creating a disconnect between how it presents itself and the actual experience. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Calvary Christian Academy. I wish I could give 0 stars.

He talks all the time, sings songs, helps at home, eats nearly everything we do, willingly, and LOVES his friends at school! We're so grateful for the opportunity for him to stay through middle school. I can see the benefits of the school in each interaction with every child that I encounter. The parents are great, and the school fosters a true sense of community. I'm eager to see my son continue to flourish with the support and guidance from the staff who care for him like their own child. The individualized approach to learning helps the child to find what they enjoy, how they learn best, and to learn at their pace with their friends doing the same. I love that they can help each other learn while developing social confidence, communication skills, leadership qualities and so many other benefits! Highly recommend it!

We became very disillusioned with this school after having high hopes initially but it became a…read morevery toxic environment which has been corroborated by many other parents and former staff. We only stayed as long as we did because we were waiting for construction of Primrose in Tradition to finish and for it to finally open. Sun Grove is painfully lacking in communication skills with parents and very defensive when dealing with a parent who has a concern or a grievance. A few of the upper staff are highly defensive, abrasive and disrespectful towards parents. The parents of Sun Grove deserve better. Mandatory (they call it volunteer) labor hours for parents and if these hours are not met, they charge money for every hour not completed. We pay over $800 a month tuition. Where is our money going? Why can't they hire professionals to fix things around the school? Extreme food restrictions for lunches/snacks. Parent/student-shaming if an unapproved food is sent. If you're going to only require fruits and vegetables for snacks, they need to be kept cold in order for them to stay viable all day! A small cold pack is not going to stay cold long enough to do that and the school does not offer refrigeration. When we try to send a non-perishable item that our 4yo will actually eat, it is taken away and sent home with a no-no note. Campus floods badly frequently causing parents to have to pick their children up mid-day and often have to leave work to do so. No programs like music, language, etc. No covered playground in the hot Florida sun. Fire ant issues. Our daughter received many fire ant bites. Tons of bugs and mosquitos. Located in a very run-down area of Fort Pierce Fl. Parents are pulling their kids from this school left and right and for good reason. They also currently have no head of school as she was fired after the end of the last school year. Never thought I'd have to say this but steer clear!

My son attended this school for two…read moreyears, and during that time I became increasingly concerned about how the administration handles reports regarding children's safety and well-being. When I raised concerns about my child, as well as other children in the classroom, I expected those concerns to be taken seriously and thoroughly addressed. Instead, I felt dismissed and unsupported. Rather than working to resolve the issues I brought forward, my family was ultimately asked to leave the school. What is particularly troubling is that many of the teachers are caring, dedicated, and truly phenomenal with the children. However, it was evident that they were often understaffed, overworked, and placed under significant pressure. I repeatedly expressed concerns that some classrooms lacked adequate support and that the overwhelming demands placed on staff contributed to behavioral issues among the children, including incidents where children were hurting one another. As a parent, these experiences raised serious questions about the school's commitment to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and appropriately supervised environment. Parents trust daycare providers with their most precious responsibility--their children. That trust requires transparency, accountability, and a genuine willingness to listen when concerns are raised. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Instead of feeling heard and supported, I felt that legitimate concerns were minimized, and raising them ultimately resulted in my family being removed from the school. For those reasons, I cannot recommend this daycare to families looking for an environment where concerns about children's welfare are consistently taken seriously.

I was apprehensive…read moreabout starting my son at school so young but his Pre-K 2 teachers and the school staff have resolved every worry I might have had. Their patient and loving approach to early childhood education has left me deeply impressed. My son has grown by leaps and bounds and I'm excited to see what his continued education at this unique school will do for him as he matures. The class sizes are small and the campus is amazingly situated in picturesque downtown Ft. Pierce. Tuition is affordable and they accept Step Up for Students as well. The headmistress Mandy Doss is attentive and seems to know every child by name. This is the kind of family environment you just won't get in public school or even larger private schools. It seems every other week there's a fun event, activity, or field trip that keeps the kids engaged and us parents involved and able to participate hands-on. We're over the moon with our SAEA experience and hope to keep our boy (and subsequent kids!) there all through grade 12. Thank you, SAEA, for making this an easy choice to be proud of!

They fired an employee with no *legitimate* explanation as to why. The employee was asked to leave…read moreand she did. This employee also had a child enrolled in the duration of her employment and upon termination, her son stayed on daycare premises for the rest of the day. However, her son was signed out by the director, Loretta Gibbons, without authorization. This means that they had a child in their care who was not signed in for an entire day. This is a huge breach of safety for the child, his mother, and in some states, may be considered illegal for the school. When asked if it is protocol for a child to be expelled upon termination of a parent who is an employee, Mrs. Gibbons said "yes". (This protocol is not stated in the employment handbook). When asked how the enrollment of the child was a conflict of interest, Mrs.Gibbons said " Because she was badmouthing me ". So now we have a Christian school firing employees based off of hearsay without any attempt to sit down and resolve any perceived conflict or effort of verification. The director, Loretta Gibbons, was witnessed engaging in gossip , and favoritism. (This employee and one other employee are the only employees of Latin/Hispanic descent), and was also witnessed as divisive and meddling. This is a supposed christian environment , yet the daycare is infamous in the community as a gossip hub. Gibbons refused to discuss any further details about why this employee was terminated other than " She badmouthed me" Firing someone based off of hearsay is not the way to conduct business, nor is reactive termination appropriate at a church. Let's not forget to mention video proof of underage drinking at the 2023 Christmas party as well as the director being heavily intoxicated. People don't remember what you say, they remember how you made them feel. This is a callous environment. Their ministry is very vague, with no real outreach impacting the surrounding community in a positive way. No one knows about them, and there is a high turnover of employment. Enter at your own risk. And if your child is enrolled, make sure you don't upset the Director otherwise your kid will be out of care with no appropriate notice.
