After losing my insurance, I…read morewasn't able to see him for a while--but I was still taking the medication that he himself originally prescribed me. I just hadn't had an appointment because of the insurance gap, but I had enough medication left from previous fills and continued it consistently. When I finally scheduled an appointment again, they canceled it an hour before, claiming I needed to do a new intake since it had been over four months. It's extremely frustrating because if I had canceled last minute like that, they would've charged me a fee. Apparently, that rule only applies to patients. When I finally did get seen, Nicholas didn't listen. I explained that I had been taking my meds the entire time--the same medication he had originally prescribed. Despite that, he told me I had to basically start the whole process over, and reduced my dosage from 250 mg down to 25 mg. Unsurprisingly, I had a horrible month. My bipolar symptoms came back in full force. When I followed up and told him how badly I was struggling--including having intrusive thoughts--their response was: "Go to the ER." Anyone who has ever dealt with mental health issues knows how unhelpful that is. Sitting in an emergency room for hours when this could've been handled by my provider is not care--it's passing the buck. At my next appointment, the dose was slightly increased, but still nowhere near where it needed to be. I was still suffering. I tried reaching out to the office--which, by the way, is incredibly difficult to navigate--to get Nicholas's email. He had told me to contact him if anything came up. The front desk responded, "We don't give out personal emails." I wasn't asking for his personal email--I was asking for a way to contact my provider. The back and forth with the front desk went nowhere. Then Nicholas called me--but from a spam-labeled number, which obviously I didn't answer. He called again while I was at work and couldn't pick up. I emailed back explaining that, but the communication was already falling apart. I tried canceling my next appointment and--no surprise--it wasn't actually canceled. I had to email them five separate times before someone finally confirmed it was canceled. Eventually, a supervisor called me after seeing the string of emails. We had a 45-minute conversation where she told me she would follow up with Nicholas and get back to me later that day or the next. She never called me back. This is not how you treat patients, especially those dealing with serious mental health struggles. If you're looking for real mental health care, this is not the place. I've now been forced to start the exhausting and stressful process of finding a new provider in the middle of a mental health crisis that they made worse by not listening and not doing their jobs. Nicholas didn't listen. The front desk didn't listen. The supervisor didn't follow through. And the entire point of mental health care is to be heard. Instead, I'm spiraling--snapping at my kids over things like spilled milk, sobbing uncontrollably mid-workout, and feeling totally out of control of my emotions. I came here for care. I left worse than when I arrived. Long story short: I would never, ever recommend this place unless your mom works there--and even then, good luck.

For years I suffered from major depression. A depression that took away relationships, work,…read morefriends, a marriage, and a considerable toll on my physical health. While regular therapy and medication helped to keep my head above water, I was tired of the constant drowning feeling, that hopeless feeling. I started to research TMS, and quickly found TMS Long Island Corp. Let's start with the practice...The staff and doctors at this practice are nothing short of amazing. From every step of the way, I felt like I was a part of their family and was very well taken care of. Their office manager, Marianne, took care of scheduling, making arraignments, and explaining the process while her counter-partner, also named Marianne, took care of the billing and insurance pre-auths. Dr Kristin jumped in for an initial evaluation and went over my goals, expectations, and pro/cons of the treatment. At no point did I feel pressured by the practice to move forward, and Dr Kristin encouraged me to take some time to think if I wanted to move forward. I always felt that the care of the patient was their number one priority rather than pushing you into something just to collect money as some do. After I decided to move forward, Dr. Stephen took me in for a further consult, the initial mapping, and my first TMS session. He further went over expectations and continued to check in throughout the treatment to see how I was feeling personally, and not just relying on the scores in my reports. As far as the TMS sessions...The sessions themselves were pretty quick but did take a considerable time commitment. 30 mins a day, 5 days a week, for 7 weeks sounds almost impossible to do as a busy, working, single father, but it was worth every second. It was like going to the gym to work out your brain. Everyone reacts differently to it, but I did not find TMS to be painful or troublesome at all. It was similar to someone lightly tapping on your head with a slight headache. The techs, Josephine and Lydia, were amazing also. They made me feel so welcome, warm, and caring like I was part of their family. They made sure I was always comfortable, always checking on my progress, and would watch the Headspace programs on Netflix that were on during the treatment with me. They always commented how it would put them in such a great mood. I'm so glad, I took the path of TMS with TMS Long Island Corp. Although, not everyone has the same results, and improvement in mental health can be sometimes a personal feeling...but for me, my depression symptoms have completely disappeared, I am happy, healthy, energetic, and have a healthy outlook on life again. I am no longer drowning, I no longer feel like there isn't hope. I simply can't recommend TMS Long Island Corp. enough to go on your TMS journey with. These doctors ranged from the indifferent, irresponsible, deranged and the one right before I luckily met Dr. Epstein was mean - not just coldly efficient/thorough as I had previously thought for more than seven years. Dr. Epstein is far more empathetic and professionally responsible than any of the other psychiatrists I ever dealt with. I had experienced some who would blindly write me refills for whatever medication I wanted to a psychiatrist (fortunately, he has retired) who felt that yelling at emotionally fragile patients like myself was wise psychological methodology. Dr. Epstein saved my life in 2013 by helping me deal with the near suicidal psychosis that I developed over possibly losing my apartment due to untrue noise complaints. Furthermore, he was instrumental in assisting me with the overwhelming grief I experienced when my beloved elder brother unexpectedly died in October 2017. I will always be grateful to him for the care and compassion he showed me - insisting on personally seeing me to make sure I was alright only a few days after my brother's passing. Dr. Epstein is an extremely ethical, empathetic and wonderfully skilled psychiatrist. Avoid this place for a referral…read more I should have taken heed when their Director of Referral, Lois Wedin, initially actively discouraged me from pursuing a therapist referral through their referral service because she said they didn't accept my insurance. Their website mentions that they offer "affordable therapy, with cost adjusted to your particular financial situation", but Lois never even mentioned this option to me. At the time I was desperate to find a therapist after having bad luck in finding one on my own because so many were not accepting new patients or were priced out of my budget. Their service had come recommended to me by two people I knew so I persevered though I would have been better off not doing so. During the intake process with Lois I felt insensitively interrogated by her, but again went through with the intake in the hopes that I would get a good therapist. Once I was assigned, I was let down, my therapist barely said a word during the several sesssions of therapy with her. I would have had almost as much response if I had been speaking to a wall. I pointed this out to my therapist and that I didn't think my sessions with her were helping, but this didn't change her approach. I wish I had found another source for referral to therapists sooner and not wasted my time. I recommend avoiding Theodor Reik / NPAP and going through a referral service such as: Open Path Collective instead where you can choose a therapist without going through a gatekeeper like Lois Wedin: https://openpathcollective.org/
