My wife and I live with our 3 year old special needs daughter in a housing complex where groups of 6 houses share a single drive way access to their garages. Because of this and the fact that the drive way is the only access point to the 4 houses in the back (of which ours is one of), the entire driveway has been zoned as a fire lane, residents and vendors can not park on it, as doing so prevents people from getting to their garages and would prevent a fire trunk from getting to and putting out a fire on any houses in the back 4. Now in practice I've found our neighbors and some times vendors ignore this and still park there anyway, but its usually only for short periods of time and my wife usually can just ask the individual to please move if we need to get in or out of our home and probably because they know they are in parked illegally they are usually quick to oblige. Today, however, about an hour ago my wife returned from picking up our daughter from her special needs classes, she came to a Kidwell Brothers Carpet Cleaning truck parked directly along the red fire lane at the very front of the drive way, blocking access to all 4 back garages (and probably making it difficult for the front 2 as well). I was not present for the altercation but as I learned from my wife, all but in tears and thoroughly upset and distressed when she finally managed to get inside, she asked for the individual to move to allow access and rather then doing so, the owner of the truck not only refused, but verbally berated her for not being skillful enough to navigate our large SUV with a 3 year old child in the back seat past an illegally parked giant truck literally partially blocking our garage itself. He also then apparently suggested she was an idiot for not realizing that the fire lane only applies to residents and not to him (something I'm looking into but all signs suggest is not the case per Section 22500.1 in the CA legal code.) so he could sit there and block her all day if he wanted. For the record, our HOA does NOT allow us to park on the street, if my wife did just back up and try to find a spot on the street to park on our car would be towed by the HOA (and though we've personally never been towed as we use our garage we've seen them make good on those towing threats to other neighbors who didn't listen), so this meant this individual was literally holding my wife and daughter hostage outside our own house. I don't know how long this went on for but at some point apparently the individually relented, though not before berating my wife again apparently for inconveniencing "him", and moved, allowing her to get into our garage, before immediately moving back, there by trapping us in our home with their truck where we remain trapped even now as I type this. TLDR: I have no idea if this individual treated my wife as they did because she's black, a woman, or just because they're incredibly cruel and belligerent to everyone who they are harming with their illegal actions, but I do know this, I'm never using this company for anything and I'm going to make sure everyone who might ever consider using them goes with any other company. I don't know if they are good at their jobs or not and I frankly don't care if this is how they treat other people, as human garbage, especially when, again, as far as I can tell from the CA code, they are breaking the law even though the house they are servicing is literally one of the only 2 houses that can be reasonably serviced from the street with out needing to park illegally and block the drive way. read more
