The ideal family retreat!…read more Arnsheen is an old famhouse available to rent on the Drumlamford country estate, it sleeps up to nine in a double room (en suite), family (double + single) and two twin rooms. We have stayed here several times over the last few years and it is always magnificent. The famrhouse itself is well maintained and always really welcoming. The estate is pretty much in the middle of nowhere so there is little to do expect relax and walk! There is fishing available in the estates Lochs and shooting can be arranged through the gamekeeper on the estate. They also offer a few other smaller properties to rent.

Jen the owner gave us some pointers on local walks and some further afield. Enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend this cottage to get away from it all. The cottage sleeps 10 easily in 5 quaint and chinzy bedrooms and although some of the decor is admittedly a bit tired and in need of a makeover, the overall feel is comfortable, homely and historic. Allonby itself is a lovely little village, although the boys who poppd into the pub whilst we (the girls - how sterotypical?) made dinner, said it was a bit of a 'locals' pub i.e. everyone stared as the visitors walked in! The cottage is literally 30 seconds walk from the beach, which is wide and flat and a mix of sand and pebbles with some excellent rock pools, which we explored to the full and learned all about the slimy little creatures as I was with a bunch of teachers! I would heartily reccommend a BBQ on the beach at sunset. As you will see from the pictures, the views are breathtaking.

Kirroughtree is a quaint Country House Hotel, which can come over as a bit old fashioned to some, but I find this adds to its charm. The food is outstanding and they have won a number of awards for both their food and their service. It is not the cheapest however it is know as the best place to stay in Newton Stewart.

There is very limited parking on the street but they do have a small car park to the rear. When you enter you will find a quaint wee hotel, with modest decoration. The ground floor is made up of the bar and the main dining room with rooms on the first and second floor. Although modest the rooms are comfortable and represent very good value for money. The food is well presented and tasty which attracts a good local trade which is gives a bit of an indication. I have eaten here a number of times both in the bar and in the main restaurant and can say I have only had very good meals.

My sister and I…read morechose to stay at this location in June during our Scotland trip because we wanted to take the ferry at Cairnryan to Northern Ireland for a day and then come back to Scotland and continue our journey there. It was so magical. It rests at the bottom of a garden hill. There was a lovely porch where we drank tea and read one of the hundreds of books that lined the bookshelves in the drawing room. There was also a computer in the drawing room (hallelujah!). The room itself was clean, cozy, and immaculate--down to the smallest detail--there were even tiny scissors for us to open the instant coffee in our room. The beds were so comfortable. It was the perfect place for us to convalesce for a couple of nights from the rigors of travel. The first day, when we had to leave early for the ferry, they packed breakfast for us and left it on outside of our door in a cooler. The second day we had breakfast in their beautiful dining room which reflected all the glory and beauty of the days of the British Empire. They had a variety of breakfast options but I greedily chose porridge and a full English breakfast. It was delicious. And I couldn't move after eating it I was so full. John, the gentleman who runs the place, was so kind, thoughtful, and gracious. he took care of our every need. he even went way above and beyond the call of duty and helped my sister and I get cheaper tickets to Glasgow (our next destination) and even gave us a ride to the bus terminal himself. We will never forget the wonderful people and the beautiful stay at Rhins of Galloway B&B. Planning to return will the rest of our family in the near future.
