I've enjoyed Kilwin's before in Lake Geneva, WI. We make it a point to hit that Kilwin's at least once a summer. This Kilwin's has the exact same feel and look as the one I've known since I was a kid. However, this one seems a bit slower. There is always a line, but this line moves quite slow. Perhaps it was because we went on a Sunday night, and there were only a few workers there. Maybe they didn't expect a Sunday night rush? In any case, the high rating is based on their delicious ice cream. They make the classics, and they make them well. I had the Georgia Peach and my husband had the Cookies & Cream. Other favorites include the Blueberry Waffle Cone and the Mud Pie. Kilwin's is pricy though. Two one scoop sugar cones (nothing fancy) cost us a little over $9. read more

How can anyone taste the sea salt caramel ice cream and then get a different flavor? I also tried the raspberry chocolate truffle ice cream but even though it was great it wasn't nearly on the level of the salted caramel. The inside is often crowded and there is a definite "tourist" vibe. They also offer caramel covered apples in the tourist season (none were made when we were there in March) as well as truffles, coffees and other drinks. There are few tables in the back but don't count on getting seating here. I was a total creeper and asked everyone around me what they thought of what they'd ordered. We all agreed that the ice cream, etc was great but that it was overpriced. read more

Saukatuk is one of my parents favorite places and this is a very nice shop. Well it is full of sweets, in particular, chocolates and ice cream although in the fall they serve some great caramel apples which you can watch them make through the big street window. This is a fairly big sweet shop with lots of treats and as I mentioned they have a window display where you can watch them make some confectioner items, not just caramel apples. Very good ice cream. They used to have a store in Gurnee, IL but that has been closed for years. read more

Fun shop where you get to watch fudge being made and waffle cones! Fudge is good, but it's pricey ($17/lb.) There are chocolates and ice cream and fudge and each "section" had a different line. Why a 4? Well, the girls doing the fudge were sweet but sort of slow and there is not a lot of space in there for extra folks to be milling about. read more

First, the scoops of ice cream are HUGE! I made the mistake of getting 2 scoops so I could try multiple flavors (cake batter and praline)...that was my mistake because I couldn't finish all of that delicious creamy goodness. They let you sample flavors before you decide, and the ice cream is very rich and sweet. I would say 4/5 stars because my 2 scoops in a cup cost $8 dollars, YIKES. Ice cream isn't that expensive in Chicago, but it was fine for trying it once. read more

I can't go to Michigan without stopping at Kilwins!!!! love the ice cream. My favorite flavors are Saugatuck mud, Mackinaw island Fudge and now the salted Carmel. Good thing I do not live close. Seriously though, this place is an institution and in the tiny town of Saugatuck, population 980 they have 2 locations just a few blocks from each other. They always have smiling faces and are happy to serve. I have had both the ice cream and the fudge (multiple times) and it is the best! Pretty average shop, albeit very small inside (not much room to wait so if I were you I'd avoid going on a busy day). Picked up a fresh squeezed lemonade(made well by our server, who had only been on the job 3 days) which hit the spot perfectly on the 100+ day we were there. Also picked up some of the seal salt caramels -- good, but nothing to write home about. read more

Me and my hubby happened to be walking around town and stumbled across Kilwins, let me tell you, it was so delicious that even after I shooped myself on the way back to the car after finishing my chocolate milkshake I still would recommend going to get your own chocolate milkshake! Pretty good ice cream. I had the peppermint and cookies and cream in a cup. The peppermint was kind of weird. The pieces of peppermint candy were really soft. It was all very fresh and delicious; I guess I'm just used to a certain kind of peppermint ice cream with hard candy pieces. Oh well, it was good and I would go back. read more

Ice cream here is good, but I think the pricing is annoying. The toasted coconut flavor is amazing even if you're not a big coconut fan. Blueberry waffle cone flavor and Georgia peach are yummy too. They let you sample the ice creams. I just wish you could get half scoops. read more

Yum. I had one of the caramel, fudge, and pecan apples as well as some of the caramel fudge and the salt water taffy. Everything was delicious! The fudge wasn't granular, but creamy and amazing. The salt water taffy was nice and fresh (it didn't threaten to pull out my fillings as some taffy does.) And the apple was as decadent as a caramel apple can get. Plenty of ice cream shops in the area but I always head back to Kilwins for my cookie dough ice cream. A bit on the high side of things but YOLO! Find a small table and enjoy some ice cream with your significant other or finish walking around the rest of the town so you can burn off some of those calories! read more

Agree with others....great ice cream and chocolate fare, but a bit pricy. We really pick and choose when we go for that reason. For the price of a cone, I can buy a whole gallon of ice cream at Demonds. But when I have a few extra dollars in my pocket and have a craving, it is worth the walk downtown. First and foremost, downtown Saugatuck is truly an awesome place. Never been there before, but definitely plan on being back when we have more time. This place we came across was truly awesome. Fudge was great, but we had New Orleans Praline ice cream in a cone. Truly delicious, especially on a hot day like it was. Way over priced for the very small scoop of ice cream. We each had a one scoop ice cream cone and I could not believe the price was over $12. Price gouging at it's best. No wonder they do not post their prices. I do not mind paying for quality but the ice cream was just average. They were out of many of the flavors. The customer service was friendly and welcoming, very family friendly and the ice cream was absolutely delicious! Very rich and flavorful and creamy goodness! However the baked goods/chocolates were extremely overpriced (it was $5 just for one chocolate graham cracker!) and they do not display the prices until you have bought the item. So if you are looking for a cheaper place to eat I would suggest not going to Kilwins! Their are other equally delicious and more affordable places to eat ice cream that are just as friendly! read more

The ice cream was tasty (if overpriced). However, the experience was tainted by the woman at the cash register interrogating the only Black woman in our group (asking her to spell her last name while the cashier inspected the card and consulted with the manager) while easily processing everyone else's cards. She only relented when the my friend's white husband joined her. Do they experience a lot of credit card theft for the purposes of buying two ice cream cones??? We would have stayed and shopped in Saugatuck longer but after that incident we went back to our lake house pretty quickly. read more

I go to Kilwins everytime I'm in Saugatuck. I go 2 different times usually. I go get fudge one night (chocolate walnut) and then another night go to get some ice cream. It's not cheap, so I can't go as often as I like and there is always a line out the door. I wasn't as impressed with the ice cream this time as I have been in the past. They were running low or out of a lot of them so the selection was more slim than normal. I got the chocolate peanut butter, which was wood, but the giant chunks of gooey peanut butter did not want to stay in my cone and kept threatening to fall out. So next time I might have to rework the logistics and get a bowl. I had to give 4 stars since they were running out and I couldn't check out the full selection and the staff was a little scattered, skipping over me and other customers to get other ones clearly in line behind us. Open late and satisfied our craving for ice cream. A huge selection of ice cream, fudge, candied apples, etc. My husband thought the fudge was actually too sweet that it was hard to taste the chocolate, so we got ice cream instead. It is expensive though. $16+ for two small sundaes although the portion was big. Ended up actually not finishing them since it was just too sweet after a while. read more

The first night we arrived in Saugatuck we went to Kilwin's for ice cream. Had that been my last visit I would have rated it three stars because the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream tasted like water but my partner enjoyed an almond milk chocolate toffee chunk. We decided to try Kilwins one last time before heading home and the pecan praline was incredible! My partner had the cappuccino chocolate chip and loved it as well. I recommend asking for a taste sample before investing in the scoop (two single scoop waffle cones cost nearly thirteen dollars). Next time I would try the salted caramel ice cream which was recommended by the locals. The interior is quaint with old wooden shelves filled with an abundance of chocolate turtles, fudge, and other candies made on site. If you happen to be visiting Saugatuck and are craving ice cream I would recommend this place. read more
