I've been here quite a few times over the past year. The service is always reliably good. This visit I ordered the beef chow mein (crunchy noodles) with stir fried vegetables (#40 on the menu). Not my favorite but most noteworthy was the sad amount of beef in the dish. They buried it under the vegetables so it wasn't so noticeable. I wanted to love this place, but was a bit disappointed today when we visited. The service here was great, the food not so much. We both had the pho and eggrolls as an appetizer. I hate giving bad reviews to small businesses but I've had very good Vietnamese food so I'm biased. The iced coffee was alright but not as strong as other places nor was it sweetened, the pho's were okay but not the best in flavor and the boba drink was alright as well - not the best flavored boba drink I've had. Authentic delicious Vietnamese food, great friendly service in a spacious clean restaurant. Having eaten delicious home cooked Vietnamese food growing up, I definitely appreciate a place that serves authentic Vietnamese food. We started with shrimp spring rolls. It's a simple dish that requires fresh ingredients and this was definitely fresh and delicious. The Pho with beef briskets was out of this world delicious. The key component to a great Pho is the broth. It was so good, we had to ask the owner who also helps to serve on the floor about the broth. She said she cooks the broth with beef bones and herbs and spices for 2 days. Then she chills the broth so that the fat floats to the top and hardens. Then she skims the fat off the broth to make it a cleaner more healthy broth. She also said that she doesn't use a lot of sugar like many other Vietnamese restaurants do. The result, is a clean broth with deep rich flavors that you can drink from straw. The Salmon with jasmine rice was also magnificent. By far one of the most delicious pieces of salmon I've tasted. Crispy skin on the outside with a moist and flavorful interior. It was perfectly seasoned. We finished the meal with a dessert cooked with sweet corn and topped with coconut milk. The interplay of sweet coconut with the salty sweet corn was delectable. We weren't from the area but could tell that this place had locals who came in regularly. We overheard the owner repeatedly talking to different tables and asking them about their family members. At one table she looked at a young lady and her mother and commented "she's getting so tall." We're so glad we found this gem in Salt Lake City. read more

My sister and I love Pho , it's something that we really are picky on, we decided to try this place out. As soon as we came in Cdeit greeted us, asked us how we are doing, how was are saying, and really showed she cared about her job. She right away asked us what we wanted, and she explained the entire menu, she told us her favorites and told us how amazing her boba was, so right away we ordered boba, and sure enough it was amazing, very fresh and delicious, honestly was mad that we didn't get extra lol. I can't lie i have had boba a lot and she literally made the best boba i have had in a long time. We both got large pho's with chicken, shrimp, and brisket, and my sister got tofu in hers. Let me tell you, this was one of the best pho's we have had in a long time, and take it from us, we are really picky about our pho and this place had the freshest ingredients and broth. The pho was good, broth had good flavor, the meat was a little tougher than i'm used to, the noodles are a little strange. Kim Long isn't bad but it's not great either. I had the vermicelli with egg rolls and pork. It was served on a really large plate which made the portions look small but, actually, the serving size was adequate. The two egg rolls were tasty while the grilled pork was not very appetizing. The pork was not freshly grilled and was like jerky or gyro meat. Since this is the only Vietnamese restaurant i know of north of the salt lake metro area, I will probably be back; perhaps to try the Pho on my next visit. We arrived on an evening on a Saturday. It was near closing time so it was not busy. There was parking in some strip mall type parking. The bathroom had ants crawling around. Otherwise it was clean. I've visited this place about three times now. I was in the area for a MESA and a HOSA competition during high school. My friends and I would walk over to Kim Long during our break time. The exterior is very plain (make sure you don't trip on the little step near the door). The interior looks like any other Asian restaurant. The most recent visit I've had was with Ray. In the past, I've only ordered the boba at Kim Long. They have the best tasting boba. Their boba is so delicious and sweet. They always gave me lots of boba balls and the boba balls were always soft. Their pho is a different story though. The fact that this place is a Vietnamese restaurant is quite surprising... My boyfriend, Ray, is Vietnamese and we both ordered the same pho. I ate my pho perfectly fine, but Ray was so disgusted by how watered down and flavorless it tasted, he couldn't even finish his food. I could see what he was talking about, but I could finish my food fine. By the end of our meal, Ray's pho was highly discolored by all the sauce he used to add some flavor in his pho and mine was the original clear color of soup. In conclusion, I would come to Kim Long for their boba, but not for their pho, especially if you're used to authentic Vietnamese pho. You wouldn't expect a Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of Layton to be as authentic as it is, but Kim Long is owned by a Vietnamese family who had emigrated to Utah and set up a restaurant. The wife of the owner also came by to greet us and chatted with us for a while. You may find one of the waiter's, a tall white guy to be out of place, but don't let the waiter deceive your perception of this restaurant. He had just as well transplanted from Hell's Kitchen in New York City to Utah. He was just as friendly and helpful, always checking up on us to see if we needed anything else. For appetizers, we got the Summer Rolls (2 for $4.50). They were fresh but I found myself eating mostly vegetables and not enough pork, although there were two medium shrimps. I was hoping the side of tng xào was going to help accentuate the flavor of this rather boring wrap, but it was just as drab without any strong flavors. I would have preferred a garlic or spicy chili powder flavor, but the peanut flavor was just as subtle. For my entree, I tried P1. Kim Long Special Pho ($7.75), which includes steak, flank, tendon, tripe, meat ball, and fatty flank. Served on the side is a small plate of bean sprouts, lime wedges, and cilantro. The broth was very delicious alone, but things got real interesting by squeezing some Sriracha sauce to the broth to add a spicy chili flavor (sorry, no bottles of the BBQ sauce were available on the table). The thin slices of steak were thrown into the broth just before serving so that you could see a very subtle pinkness to the meat. But just dip it further into the broth to help cook the meat to your preference.The pieces of flank, tendon, tripe and fatty flank were fresh and delicious. However, the meat balls, similar to fish balls, had a bit of a gristly texture. I also tried R18. Charbroiled Pork Rice Platter. The thin pieces of pork were indeed charbroiled to perfection, with a nice sweet char flavor. Although it wasn't included but is usually standard with this dish, we asked for the standard-fare fish sauce that the owner happily brought a small bowl over. The Kim Long Special Pho is one to definitely try out here. Portions of the sides may not be as generous as what some may be accustomed to in New York City, but I would consider the pho to be fairly authentic. Also, if you're looking for a reasonably priced meal, this is the place to be. read more

Kim Long has been my favorite Vietnamese restaurant so far and since I've been here twice now, I'm a regular and also a fan. First time I came here I ordered bun cha gio ga nuong...7.75. It came out on a plate...strange...recommend for you all to ask for it to be delivered in a large bowl...it works better when trying to mix and integrate all the ingredients together. This dish is perhaps a 3/5. The second time I came I ordered my usual...Pho Tai Chin...forget the price but it wasn't outrageous like Van Loi was in Roy. Tasted good in comparison to the two other places I've been to so far...Van Loi and Pho Tay Ho in SLC. I'd give it a 4/5 for the area. I liked the fact that the waitresses all wore Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese Dresses). All the servers were prompt and courteous. Oh...and don't expect the waitresses to speak Vietnamese...2 are Korean, one looks Indian and another girl is white.
