Ordered Oriental Beef and got.... Tofu?
    Dean Q.

Kim's used to be such a bargain but they (albeit like everyone else) raised their prices earlier this fall as Penn students came back to town. I've still been a few times cause the portions are large but the 30-40% markup is disappointing. The food is still usually pretty good depending on what you order; I'm not a fan of the Ginger chicken but other noodle dishes have been good. Today, they finally had the oriental beef available so I ordered it and walked back to my office. Low and behold, they served me up a box of sweet and sour tofu??? I'm so confused because the gentleman taking orders clearly heard me and charged me $11 for the beef... but this is obviously not what I ordered. With the disappearance of Yu Kee, there's just less Chinese food trucks overall but I feel like Kim's has sadly started to slip in recent years.

Having been to many authentic Chinese restaurants, perhaps my review is biased because i have high standards, but the food here is okay. Portions are generous and food costs around $7.5-10/11. Service is fast but that also means food won't be as good as your best Chinese restaurants. Overall, support small business like Kim's but compared to good chinese restaurants, it's okay. In order of preference, I've had: 1) 红烧肉 braised pork, 2) sesame chicken, 3) 湖南鸡 hunan chicken.

Beef and broccoli was really yummy. Mapo tofu was pretty bland but I still love this place. It's worth trying anything at least once.

Located in the alley behind pottruck (upenn campus), this food truck attracts a fairly consistent and large lunch time crowd. I waited almost 20 minutes for my food which is a bit inconvenient. $4.50 for a large hunk of white rice, sesame chicken and veggies is a great price with unbeatable convenience. I will definitely be back to try their pork chop rice, which I saw a lot of other customers order.

The aroma from Kim's food truck grabbed my nose and pulled me towards the ordering window. I had no idea what I wanted but the orange chicken stood out the most to me. The chicken is crispy yet tender, spicy, and somewhat of a citrus taste. This has to be the best Asian food truck in Univ. City; all others don't compare. 1. Friendly service 2. Quick turn around for food 3. Reasonably priced

Adjacent to Pottruck Gym. Get the ginger chicken. You have to ask for chopsticks if you want them. Open later than most foodtrucks. They speak Mandarin.

Discovered a great Chinese food truck near Penn! It's in the alleyway right behind pottruck the gym and I was actually quite surprised at how good this was! I ordered sesame chicken and it was $5.50. The price isn't too bad and the chicken was very meaty and didn't have too much coating on it. Some places don't give that much chicken but this food truck gave a lot of chicken and the balance was good with the steamed broccoli. There wasn't much of a line so I waited for only about 10 minutes to get my food. Very delicious Chinese food and highly recommend !

I would have to say that Kim's Oriental is one of the better Asian food trucks around UC. Food is fast to come out and the service is incredibly friendly. They have a very big menu for being a food truck, and there are a ton of vegetarian options. Everything is also very reasonably priced ($5 and under), and the amount of food you get is really generous. At first, I was confused as to what subgum meant but it's Cantonese for combination so all the noodle and rice dishes labeled with "subgum" combines chicken, roasted pork, and shrimp. I ordered their subgum lo mein. I wasn't disappointed in the food, but it wasn't great. For food truck quality, I will say it's one of the better quality Chinese meals. The lo mein dish wasn't overly greasy, which was a nice change from the other Chinese food trucks around. I will definitely be back to try some of their other menu items. Don't hesitate to come to this hidden place behind the gym for some quick food!

Portion size was okay, meat was dry and tough. Cash only. Food came out fast. I went around 5 and stuff were also sold out.

This is among the best general Asian style food I've ever had. I had the General Tso's yesterday and the Orange Chicken today.

The owner is so nice and obviously has many regular customers. He was asking a lady about how her pain level had been lately and started the next lady's order with a confirmation "egg and cheese on wheat?" I was happy to see this- regulars are a good sign. I ordered an egg and cheese, which comes on a long roll (though you can get it on toast or a bagel) and was so surprised when I watched him break eggs over the griddle and whisk them. Usually there are already-made eggs that are tossed on a piece of bread at these places--- not the case here. He made my eggs while taking care of two other customers' orders with no problems. A few minutes later, I walked away from the truck with a 16 oz coffee and a big breakfast sandwich for only $4. The sandwich is delicious, was made fresh-to-order, and served with a smile. I will definitely be back.

I was surprised to see what was once a minimalistic metal cart had upgraded into a shiny red truck! The old phone number I had saved still worked to make an advance order, and when I showed up and took a photo of the new truck, the guy inside said, "been a while since you were here?" Been a while indeed. My spice tolerance has improved a lot since my first review; by the end of college I was getting medium instead of mild, which I also got this most recent time, but I think I can actually handle spicy now and will make a note to do that next time. The burrito is still the best I've ever had, and that includes what I ate in the Mission of SF. An absolutely enormous portion with juicy meat, cheese, salsa, pico, lettuce, rice, beans, and even a generous helping of avocado. And the tortilla is seared on the grill just right, giving it an extra crisp while sealing the whole package together. Not many burritos have all the details down so perfectly like that. Anyone who works or studies near Tacos Don Memo is lucky to have such an authentic, delicious, and affordable Mexican lunch spot around. They've been around for a while and I hope they will be for a while more!

Chicken burrito (3.5/5) I wanted to love this burrito since I've heard such good things about this food truck. The burrito was delicious but I felt like it needed way more sauce for its size. I also got the "hot" sauce and didn't taste anything spicy at all in it. the chicken was great and the flavor was good overall but it was definitely on the drier side. If i come again I'll try a burrito bowl if possible instead, and i'll definitely try to order online or call ahead instead of waiting 30 minutes again

Unfortunately, since we got to the event late (thanks for that, SEPTA) we also got to the truck late. The line was cut off right in front of us after we had waited for several minutes. Not giving up, I located their truck at today's Flight Market. Again, since I ate first, the line was quite long. Maybe this is just a thing at food truck festivals? It was the longest line of my day, though. When I [finally] reached the front, I paid my $4, waited some more, and alas, was handed a French Toast and a Captain Cranky. My first thought was that they were smaller than anticipated -- especially for that price tag. Still, I was excited, happily shot a photo, and bit into the French Toast. Aaaand all I could taste was grease. I understand they had just come out of the fryer, but... what? It did not taste like French Toast in the slightest bit, which was a bummer. Next up, the Captain Cranky had a strawberry glaze and captain crunch on it. I told my friend that the topping was the best part. This one was otherwise just as greasy. I realize they were likely overwhelmed by the number of people wanting their donuts, but I do wish this had been a better experience. If I ever stumble upon them in the city, I'll give them a second try, but I certainly won't go out of my way to wait in a crazy long line for them again.

I cannot remember the name of one of my donuts now, but it was glazed in banana icing and covered in cocoa pebbles cereal. The banana icing was unique and very tasty. I also got their signature 'Homer' donut, which has vanilla and chocolate icing with bacon on top. It could have used a bit more bacon but overall it also was well done. Points off for rude service though. Their donuts aren't that unique; I wouldn't go back only to be rushed through by a gruff staff. By only selling one basic type of donut (and literally nothing else) I think they are doing themselves a disservice. Go if you want tasty glazed cake donuts, otherwise I think you can skip them.

Food trucks have come a long way and some of the best eats will be from trucks, especially in Philly. Street Food Philly came down to the Navy Yard on this lovely spring day and everything on the menu sounded delicious. My stomach can only hold so much during lunchtime so I got the black angus beef quesadilla and the truffle parm fries. Amazing!! I typically like my fries on the thinner side but they put just the right amount of truflle oil and freshly grated parmesan cheese that I didn't mind the thickness. The quesadilla was filled with perfectly seasoned ground beef, pico, and cheese. The meal was quite on the heavy side so I was only able to finish half of my meal. I'll be heating it up in about 2 hours. I tried picking it up to eat with my hands but it got quite messy. The filling kept falling out and luckily, I was all alone at my desk that no one saw me shoving my fingers into my mouth to get all of the goodness in there. I eventually became civilized and grabbed a fork to eat like a normal human being. Hope they came back so I can try out some of the other creations.

The food truck biz is definitely growing here in Philly. I saw the attractive bright green truck lined up amongst the others on 33rd street, central to Drexel students path to school. I saw their short but attractive menu posted on a white board and mulled it over for a couple minutes. The roasted lamb sandwich stood out to me with its Mediterranean influence, so I went with it. The owner, Mike, was friendly and chatted me up. He told me they had just roasted the lamb the previous night and that their menu constantly changes according to what they have available. HIs partner, Carolyn, is a friendly American-Vietnamese lady and they are just great! The sandwich was absolutely to die for!! I could not stop raving about it after I had it and immediately sent pictures, instagramed and advocated it to all of my friends. It definitely wasn't just lunch truck quality, but high restaurant quality. The meat was juicy and tender and the sauce topped it all off. There was just the right amount of feta cheese and olives- I don't even like olives and I very much enjoyed it in this sandwich. I even got my friend to go to their truck the same day and she got their pork tacos, which were also delish! I went back a second time yesterday and got the clam and oyster chowder, which was less creamy and more salty than for my liking. They were running out of a lot of their items since it was later in the day, and I was recommended the turkey sandwich. It has beans and a fried egg on top, but I ate it when it was cold so I can't say I liked it very much. I won't doubt their other items though. I heard the banh mi is pretty good, so I'll definitely be returning to try everything else!
