Plus she always comes up with fun and creative ways to learn! If you're looking to learn Spanish or reduce your accent this is where you need to go. You won't regret it! Thank you Cindi for being such an amazing Teacher!

I'm from Eastern Europe and despite learning English at school and living in the UK and US for many…read moreyears my accent remained strong. My abilities in having fluent and fun conversations in English were limited and often stalled by not being understood and asked to repeat myself. After just several lessons with Cindi my accent has improved and my confidence in speaking English lifted. Cindi could quickly asses my areas of improvement, and we focused our sessions on overcoming many of my incorrect pronunciation habits and grammar mistakes. She shared many important tips and tricks on how to talk to English native speakers, that went beyond accent reduction and grammar teachings. Classes are tailored to your personal needs. YouTube videos or books won't substitute for the personal feedback you'll get by talking to Cindi, and she won't stop until you get that sound you are working on perfectly. She knows her stuff and is able to explain how to pronounce words in many ways until you finally got it. She is a very dedicated teacher and it shows. While I attended most sessions in person, I utilized the flexibility of online meetings which I really appreciated. I highly recommend Cindi.

Now that I'm retired, I no longer have any excuses not to. So I have recently gone through an orientation to be a tutor, and have received information on my student. Tutoring sessions are usually held once a week in a mutually-agreed-upon spot (approved by the League) for an hour to an hour and a half. I will be working with my student on reading and writing, and on improving conversational English. The Adult Literacy League, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, is located on Michigan Street near South Orange Avenue and is staffed by a small, dedicated group of employees as well as volunteers. It receives most of its funding through private donors. The staff is eager to help when I need it, and I know I'll need their help often in this new venture.

My experience with writing as a process this semester taught me how to plan my paper's properly and…read moreeffectively. My unit one paper was my first major writing assignment in college, I was not proud of the process I took to finish this assignment, I didn't plan my paper, I just wanted to finish the assignment so I didn't have to worry about it. After looking at my Unit One grade I wanted to spend more time and effort with my Unit Two assignments. I used planning religiously on my Unit Two paper and revision. Using a flash card I wrote down all the textual supports and ideas I wanted to put in my paper. I used my draft as a invention space to write whatever came to mind. I look at first drafts as an assignment I put all my word vomit. After peer review I re-read my draft and completely deleted most of my writing because I knew I could do better. I re-read my draft and my peers draft to revise my paper to better it. I used a Heuristic method by looking at a specific sentence and say to myself "Okay I'm gonna write three other sentences to replace this sentence and see which one best fits". For Unit One I wasn't mindful of the material I had to make my paper successful, I was in a rush to finish the paper instead of focusing on planning, revision, invention and heuristics. In Unit Two genre analysis assignment I told myself to be mindful of this assignment and I planned ahead of what I was going to write. Writing is a process and I think it takes at least one failed attempt to realize how useful planning, mindfulness, revision, heuristics and invention are towards writing as a process.
