Given the good and kind words from the other reviews, I thought when I stopped it was like it was…read morerun by high school girls. The service was slow, the signage (what the menu was) was unclear, the food was good but not great, the prices have gone up. I cannot imagine stopping there again. Not that it was horrible, but there are much better cultural experiences. And, there was nothing great or unique there. not that it was horrible, but Berkholders is just down the street and is faster, clearer, wider selection for 10% more. Your mileage may vary.

I was alerted to this gem by a counselor at Woodward Camp in PA. I went on a culinary excursion and…read morelistened. This is a street side operation that operates only on Friday (Bakery is open both days, Friday and Saturday). The food is cooked by a very nice Amish fellow on a long grill in back. The food service part is run by who I am assuming are his daughters. Step up to the window and order. I did the half grilled chicken dinner (comes with beans, a tater, a roll and macaroni salad) for $8.75 (I talked to a couple of the people on line and this was overwhelmingly the advice I got). I also went in for the quart of homemade lemonade for $2. The chicken was ridiculous! So well seasoned and just falling off the bone tender. It was just about to jump right in my belly! The lemonade was really good and the tater was delicious with nothing on it, I just spooned it out of the skin! The other sides were almost too much like southern sides for me with the addition of more sweetener than I prefer but we're good anyhow. This is a local gem and I was a welcome visitor and landed up having a nice conversation with 2 local ladies while we ate at a picnic table, about the Grange Fair and other fun stuff. Seriously, this was like an episode of DDD but without the annoying fellow with spiked white tips. Not easy to find, far from everything, well worth driving through Amish country to find on a pretty Pennsylvania afternoon. Get there early, though, they will run out. Eat well! V-Dub
