King of Wings definitely deserves this title. A friend took me here to try this place and let me tell you my tastebuds were in heaven with their wings. King of Wings is a small local business and its for carryout only. They have a waiting area but not big enough for tables and chairs. They serve other things besides Wings like burgers but if it's called King Of Wings of course I'm getting wings. The employees are so friendly. They treat each customer like family. It was nice seeing that they have great connections to their customers. I couldn't make up my mind on what dry rub flavor I wanted and the lady behind the glass suggested I just mix the two seasonings and I'm so glad she did. I ordered ten Wings 1/2 BBQ and the other half was a cajun/garlic blend. I also ordered a side of seasoned fries. When I tell you that cajun/garlic blend made me do a little happy dance after my first bite it was so delicious. The seasoned fries were crinkle cut which went well with the Wings. I also like how they toss the veggies in the sauce and cook it along with the Wings. I can't wait to visit again, I've been dreaming of those wings. read more

I don't know why last week was my first time getting food from here. My husband has been eating at The King of Wings (perfect name for this place) his entire life and it's the go to for him and our son when I'm out of town working. I'm hesitant to even put a review out there on how truly wonderful it is, with the major city that sits right next door to us and not wanting everyone to just rush out here and take it over, but I have to give credit where credit is due and The King of Wings is spot on. Immediately, when you walk in the door you're greeted by the sweetest southern lady that makes you want to bring a lawn chair on your next visit just to sit outside and talk to her and a gentle giant that you just know is a shenanigan stopper, but you want him to be an uncle to your teenage kids when they mess up. The environment is like home and welcoming and I haven't even gotten to the food that is going to make you question where have you been ordering wings your entire life. They have numerous flavors to choose from and their wings are whole wings, not the divided up wings that you're going to pay double or more for from other places. If you know, you know. Their onion rings are homemade, just like they came from your grandma's fryer and the fried green tomatoes, I will with confidence say are the best I've ever had in my life. The night we ordered was the night of the football jamborees in West TN so we knew we were going to have several hungry teenagers at our house that night. We got a 50 wing platter with a few different flavors, tenders, onion rings, fries, and Ofcourse those fried green tomatoes. All of this, for under 80$. They could charge double that and still beat out other wing places but they keep their business small and more like you're ordering from family. A few things to know before going 1. They are cash only. I had to go to the ATM to get cash because I didn't know this and to my surprise they started my order while I was gone. I love this about them, that they are keeping it small and instead of having to keep up with credit card charges and bank fees, they take cash and instead invest that into their food and keeping their prices affordable for everyone. 2. It is carry out only, but on that note as sweet and kind as the owner is, I think she would probably sit down with you and talk while you ate your food from your lap and it would be the best meal of your life. 3. They close at 6PM, so this isn't going to be that late night place to eat. They are a gem in a small town and keep to that small town appeal with their hours and pace. Seriously, in a town that sits up against a major city with hundreds of wing places to choose from, come to small town Somerville and give the King of Wings a try. Everything was spot on! The fries were crispy and seasoned good; didn't need any sauce or ketchup - ate them plain. The chicken Caesar salad was delicious; I loved the homemade croutons. I added black pepper to my salad; it went very well with the Caesar dressing. The cheese breadsticks were amazing. The bread were crispy around the edges; very soft in the middle, oozing with cheese, which is my favorite. All of the wing sauce - perfect! The star flavor was Kickin Bourbon; I don't know who created that sauce but you have a gem on your hands....yummy! This was the first time trying wings here and we made a great choice. Awesome wings, great customer service. MAKE SURE U BRING CASH TO PAY!! CASH only! It's just a small stand with limited seating to sit and wait, so don't expect to eat here! I love that they not only serve vegetables with all the wings but cook the veggies in the sauce/seasoning as well. It's a bang for your buck REALLY! I've been living in Tennessee for about 2.5 years and coming from California, I have never tasted better wings than these!! Absolutely delicious... actually I don't know what I love best, the wings or the veggies and seasonings they use. These wings come with onions, jalapeños, broccoli, red onions, carrots and celery, throughout your order. The last two times I've asked for extra veggies... it's such a nice accompaniment. My husband is the one that got us going there. I went the last time to place the order and not only are the wings great but so is the customer service. Today was my second time eating here. The wings are great and the philly sandwich is great but this time they added pickle lettuce and tomato which made the sandwich extremely soggy to my liking. My husband had a ed burger and he liked it but he said it wasn't the best he ever had. We also got 20 wings 3 flavors flatliner, lemon pepper, and hot seasoned. They were done and very flavorful. Our total was $35 give or take. Also I would like to add several family members recommended this place to me one from Lauderdale and another from Haywood. The reason I am rating a 3 is because the customer service was not great this time around. I was traveling from middleton TN and called and called no answer. So me and my husband used both phones to call in until one of us got a answer and he was driving and finally got an answer and tried to hand me the phone and the lady got rude. By the time I got the phone which was like 2 seconds all I could hear is you can call back in a nasty manner and I said I'm ready and she was just snappy and then continued to say ok so what are we doing like 2 times. So me this is not good customer service and you never know who is on your line and what kind of money someone trying to spend. It took us 40 minutes to get there and the order was still not ready. I told them I would be back and when I got back it still wasn't ready. And I thought she was coming to bring out food after about 10 minutes and she came out to tell us to move our car and park. Your so busy taking orders and rush us to place an order but you have time to run all the way outside to monitor the parking which is only 2 inches big (sarcasm). This rudeness made the food experience bad for me this go around. Everyone is always saying we of color never support our black owned businesses but black people make it so hard to do. We as black people are our own worst enemy. Good customer service. The lemon pepper wings are good but the hot flavored wings are not as spicy as I like them to be. They charge for ranch and only fill the cup half way. So my advice is to go to the nearest store and buy you some ranch. read more

First time here. It's a take out place only. Great prices. Great hours. Very friendly staff. I ordered 10 wings (5 gold and 5 tangy) and seasoned fries. $8.50 for the wings, $3.50 for the fries. The wings are cooked almost perfectly. I like them a little crispier and may ask them to keep them in longer next time, but they were very, very tasty as is. They are whole meaty wings, not just the parts you get at many places, so the price is excellent. The gold sauce is superb. They should bottle it. The tangy sauce.... well, I'm not big on spicy hot food. I asked ahead of time and was told it was sweet and spicy. It is VERY SPICY. If there was sweet there, the spicy way overpowered it. My husband got a bite and had to spit it out and grab the milk. I just got a taste on a fork and the heat from it ruined my mouth to other tastes for a while. It was like eating a spoon of cayenne. So, if you like low- to mid-heat wings, ask first about the flavors and assume the friendly guy taking your order has a different idea of what "hot" is than you might. :) I rinsed off the 5 hot ones and broiled them to warm them up, so all wasn't lost. The fries. I'm a french fry snob and always on the look out for perfect ones. These are frozen crinkle cuts. They were nicely seasoned. Not cooked to crisp. It's take out, so they're served in styrofoam containers. That's a nice presentation and quite expensive for restaurants. The thing about the combination of hot, thick fries not cooked to crispiness, and styrofoam, and a 10 minute drive to get to food back home to eat it is that in that short time, all the steam from the hot fries gets trapped in the styrofoam and causes those fries to turn to mush. If styrofoam is the container of choice, maybe they could consider vented containers so that steam can escape. Or maybe paper boat thingys in paper bags, like some fast food places do. With the seasoning, these could be really good fries. They could be super excellent if they got a french fry cutter and made them from fresh potatoes. :) Rated this a 4 because of the yummy great taste of the gold wings, the taste of the fries, and the friendly service. Some of the best "golden" wings I've ever eaten. The wings are big and flavorful and come with one roll, carrots, and celery. They are very mouth watering and every time I'm passing through Somerville I swing by there and get some wings. Although I do have one complaint-they come with very little ranch/blue cheese, and if you request extra you are then charged for it. I think personally for the amount of wings your getting, compared to the amount of ranch-it doesn't equal out. Maybe that's the plan...I don't know. But the wings are delish! read more
