Got a deal from Amazon local or living social to get my garage door fixed. They came out on a Sunday morning which was nice enough. The repairman takes a look at the unit. Lubes it, He doesn't put any effort balancing the unit. Tells me the sensors are aligned.He looks at the motherboard and tells me I need a new unit. Since the unit is fried. The new unit will cost $450 including the installation. Plus I need a better spring/tension pole because the one I had was short. $450 is a lot of money for a garage opener. I politely decline. I went canvassing online checking out prices with Sears, the big orange box and Lowes. All 3 were cheaper than this guy. Fast forward a few weeks later and my garage door works again without the need to get a new one. Buyer beware. One of my garage door springs broke and I called Yali based on an Amazon Local deal, but I didn't end up using the deal. I then looked him up on Yelp and saw that he had great reviews. Called up and easily scheduled a time for him to come to fix it. He said that he could replace one of them, but there could be a chance that the other one would break due to uneven use. I did research and the "net" says that it's preferable to change both springs at the same time, so he wasn't simply "upselling" me; just told me what he recommended based on his expertise. He finished the job within a half-hour. He then lubricated the rollers and the garage door now works better (and quieter) than it had before the spring had broken. We worked with Yali on a metal framed wood driveway gate as well as a small fence for the front of our house. Yali was involved from the very beginning in helping make sure we got the design we wanted. His price was very good compared to some of the other companies we got quotes from, and he was flexible in terms of changing components of the gate without changing the price too much. The time between signing a contract in installation of the gate was very rapid, with the whole process taking less than one month. The installer, George, was extremely friendly and efficient, making sure that everything was done right, and making sure our gate looked and worked great. After a few days when the gate had settled a bit causing it to drag against the ground, Yali and George were out in less than 24 hours to readjust it and everything has been working great since. Yali was very accommodating in terms of helping us get all the proper security features on the gate, and even threw in some freebies such as a wireless gate opener that have been very nice features. Not to mention, the gate looks fantastic, adding curb appeal to our property on top of the security and privacy you would expect. Not a great experience. Yali came out as scheduled as part of a Living Social promotion garage door tuneup for $59. He said that I needed new cables at $89 each and new springs for $450 for a total of $629, but he would offer me a 20% discount. Seemed really expensive so I got 2 other estimates. Both other companies said all I needed was to tighten the springs and get new cables for $13 each. Total cost $100 with a service call. Glad I got another estimate and I wont be doing any more promotional checkups where they only want to upsell the customer. read more
