The setting is incredible -- beautiful houses, exercise equipment, pools, jacuzzis, and so many community resources. They even take you on outings to the Pacific Ocean to watch sunsets -- and yes, you *will* see dolphins! From the residential program to the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), every detail is thought through. The Santa Monica Mountains surround you, and the views are so breathtaking you can sit for hours just taking it all in and really feel yourself start to heal. The food is next level too -- they have a private chef who customizes meals to fit your diet and treatment needs, with tons of healthy options. And unlike most places, you get both individual and group therapy *every day*. That's almost unheard of at a residential program -- usually you're lucky to get one or two individual sessions a week. I'm not surprised that he still works there. Women, and men, don't go here!!! It's a hell hole. it's not even in Malibu! There Malibu house burned down. It's in Agoura Hills! It's a nice place but I'm sorry, it's NOT MALIBU!!! False advertising! A friend picked up my belongings but I'm still waiting for them to ship me my purse, credit cards and other items. DONT GO HERE FOR YOUR RECOVERY!!! A lot of the staff and counselors are good but it's not worth it in my opinion unless you want to be drugged out , 1 counseling session in 3 long drawn out week while the pneumonia took over and the dehydration started. The biggest issue with NuLife is its owner, JD Meints. Although JD has zero mental health training (just a finance degree from SDSU), he played an incredibly active role in what became a shockingly disappointing and traumatic experience for me at NuLife. JD routinely abused his power as "Founder and CEO" to insert himself into my care in inappropriate ways. He made a point to sit and talk with me every few days, consistently resulting in detrimental impacts on my care. JD walked in on a one-on-one session I was having with my primary therapist, sat down, and started typing at his computer. I was in the middle of opening up about being molested as a 7-year-old, but his intrusion completely compromised the trust I had built in order to attempt to move past my abuse. Additionally, JD at one point told me he was the "most Alpha guy around." He also stared me down -- like he wanted to physically fight me. Another one of my sit-downs with JD induced the only panic attack I've ever had in my adult life. I ended up needing to pay for more, better therapy just to get past what JD had put me through...and charged me a small fortune for. Bottom line: if you want a professional, qualified group of people to help you achieve a healthier mental state, my recommendation is that you look elsewhere.

***BEWARE OF DR K*** I came to Ohana to get my life back…read more They taught me the entire summer how to make the next right decision and life would get better. Yet while having acupuncture with Dr K she was not paying attention (on her phone) and I ended up with a second degree burn on my abdomen forever. The center nor Dr K feels liable. I have asked each of them to make the next right choice twice and neither has contacted me regarding this matter. In other words they are not practicing what they preach. I had just came from a major psychotic break with one of their clinicians and went directly to acupuncture. I was shaking and cold from the experience so Dr. K put a heat lamp very close to my abdomen to warm me up. I have had a tummy tuck therefore the nerves in this area were dead which is how I did not feel my skin being burned for an entire hour. Dr K did not notice either because she was in and out of the room, and while in the room on her phone. I went to the ER and found I had a 2nd degree burn. Neither party offered to pay for my medical services forcing me to use my medical insurance. Since my insurance was in state only within Michigan I had to fly all the way back there and see my primary doctor and a wound specialist. Neither party offered to help with those expenses either. The burn was so bad it took from the end of June until the end of October for me to even be able to stop wearing bandages and applying save to it daily. When approached to be civil and accountable for what happened by Dr K in their facility they have repeatedly ignored my individual attempt to solve this without lawyers and a large law suit. So much for making the next right choice. Be aware of your surroundings the best you can while undergoing intensive mental health treatment at Monima. Not everyone here is concerned about your best interest.

Would I recommend her going back someday or to another friend... definitely not. The medical detox (and there after) protocol is their standard protocol that I was not familiar with, at the time. My daughter experienced a horrific nightmare that set us at UCLA for days. This was the most horrific experience of my life. UCLA doctors urged us not to go to back ORO.. however, she was already emotionally acclimated so I did send her back after our hospital bonanza. I would urge anyone admitting themselves/loved ones to do extensive research on what the "medical cocktail" is that is pressured upon the patients. I'd also choose another place that mandates participation/attendance. Otherwise, what is the point. A paid for insurance AirBNB? I was so excited for her to even go, that I missed a lot of critical details. This isn't vacation. Any rehab is what you put into it. But paramount, don't overmedicate and research what exactly is being prescribed. The max hours of 1-1 therapy is what I'd look for (Passages).
