Railair Reading Heathrow - Schedule posted by company, completely ignored by drivers apparently

I ran up waved at him that we needed the bus, he looked me in the eyes and waived me off. Next bus is 40 minutes at least. Horrible service to leave early and ignore passengers who are relying on you to get them somewhere punctually.

Of the 5 different terminals at this airport, of course Continental Airlines uses that one. I managed to catch a free transfer and hauled my luggage onto it for the trip around the airport perimeter to Terminal 5. Once there, I figured out where to buy the ticket (there are two ticket stands and one was closed) and stepped outside to the appropriate bus stop. Small piece of luck, the bus arrived a few moments later. Excellent and extremely courteous bus driver, he put my very heavy luggage underneath without complaint and we were off. The drive to Reading was about a half hour in light traffic and I was able to entertain myself with free wi-fi on board. When we did get to Reading, he helped my drag my luggage over to the taxi stand. In the rain! Thank you! Not the most comfortable of seats, as a 6' tall American, I had to twist sideways in order to avoid banging my knees into the seat in front. I will absolutely use this service again. Strong recommendation! Save £1 and buy your ticket online.

However, the ride back home from the airport was an absolute joke: The flight was landing at 19:00 and I booked their service for 20:30 to ensure no party would have to wait for the other. We were ready and outside the terminal at 20:10 at which point I sent a text to the driver, notifying them of our location and the fact that we were ready for them to pick us up. I had to call at 20:40 only to hear from the driver that they were waiting to hear from me since the airport charges for parking... WHO KNEW? They also said they did not see my text before I called ( a full 20 minutes...) The driver arrived at 20:52, parked at the departure level (we were obviously arriving...) and only gave us vague information about the meeting point. They also never apologised, and were blaming the airport rules instead. The driver was rude, didn't wear his mask for over half the ride, and was driving like an absolute maniac, causing one of the passengers to hurt their legs as the driver entered every round about at high speed. A VW Transporter is NOT a rally car! When we finally arrived at our destination, and I mentioned to the driver the fact that he was late (with texts and call logs to prove it), he called me a liar to my face, and forced me to pay full price despite being over 20 minutes late for a 1-hour ride. After calling the company the day after, I received a call back from the manager stating they would give the driver a verbal warning... They never offered to compensate me for what is by far the worst ride of my life, and finally thought that giving me a 15% discount on my NEXT ride would help. Blisscars, do you seriously believe I'll ever use your services again? People, do yourself a service and contract a different company. The lack of professionalism there is ridiculous!

I've been living in Reading since December '09 and I have to send props to the Reading bus system…read more As an American, they have made it possible for me to survive here without needing a car. It's that whole "wrong side of the road" thing that messes me up. The buses are frequent, they are clean, and many of the lines run all night. The system is pretty simply laid out, with the various lines arranged like the spokes of a wheel, with the Reading rail station at the hub. The stops throughout the system are located closely enough together that you don't have to walk far to get from one to the next, but they are spread out enough that hte bus doesn't stop too often. They recently adjusted their fare system, where prices are much easier to understand. Two one-way trips are just a touch cheaper than an all day pass. There are also 7 day, 30 day and 90 day passes with graduated prices, but you really have to be riding at least three or four days a week for it to work out in your favor. The people of Reading are fortunate to have it.

The 17 bus route runs 24 hours and is useful if you're a student as that route is close to the university and the student area of Reading. It's a little hassle if you need to get across Reading via two or more routes as the buses don't "sync" so you can find yourself waiting 10 minutes for a connecting bus. But that's the only drawback I have. The buses are clean, arrive regularly and most of the bus stops now have a sign that shows the estimated arrival times which is useful. If you need to travel in Reading a lot, get yourself an all day ticket as it pays for itself after 3 trips.

The challenge is finding one that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Abbey Cars gave me a flat rate of £40 for the trip to Terminal 4 so I booked it. The driver arrived a few minutes early and in a Mercedes C class, no less. That's not the usual treatment, I learned, but I have no complaints. He was polite and professional and a decently good driver. We got to the airport in record time and I made my flight with plenty of time to spare. Would I use Abbey Cars again? It's difficult to justify £40 when the Railair shuttle charges £17, but with the amount of luggage I had on that trip it was worth it. Especially since Railair only goes to Terminals 1, 3 and 5.
