My husband and I stayed at the Kings Arms over Christmas using their Christmas Package, which included 3 course Christmas Eve dinner, 4 course Christmas Day dinner, Christmas Day supper buffet and Boxing Day dinner, plus hot breakfast with continental buffet. We arrived on Christmas Eve, and were treated to a heavenly caroling concert by the local women's choir La Nova, complete with mulled wine and mince pies. The meals were exceptional, (beef Wellington, duck confit, chicken/mushroom/leek pie to name a few) the service was above anything we could have hoped for. Tim in the dining room went so far above and beyond to make us Yanks feel welcome, making sure we had anything we needed, and giving us little tips on some of the British fare we weren't familiar with. Also enjoyed a lively chat with Hristophe aka Alaska in the bar. A young Bulgarian who told us he missed the snow. He told us about some of the infusions he's experimenting with at the bar, and introduced us to Polish Zubrowka Bison Grass vodka, best enjoyed with a splash of apple juice. Our king room (#101)was spacious and comfortable, although the views across the hall (#106 for example) were more scenic. Hotel manager Nicholas also made every effort to welcome us, including delivering a lively Christmas basket to our room that had local delicacies such as Dorset tea, a local ale, mulled wine, cookies, coffee, a locally made candle, ruffle honey and more! The value of this entire package was exceptional. About $1200 US for 4 night, and all the meals mentioned. Christchurch is a picture perfect little town, with several lovely shops (many closed sadly during Christmas holiday),a Norman Priory church, ruins of other Norman era structures, a lovely harbor filled with swans. All in all, a lovely holiday getaway. read more
