These guys have been cutting hair while watching Gunsmoke on the TV for a really long time.: Morrie cut hair for years for airmen back in the day at Rantoul's Air Force base. Conversation is the weather and Illinois sports and things are real laid back. Nothing real fancy here: there will be hair on the floor and nobody offers you sell you hair product after you're done. The greatest barber shop in the world. It's been almost 30 years since they last cut my hair before I graduated from UIUC and I still miss it. The ultimate old-school barber shop. As I recall, they only cut hair to one length - short - and I only recall overhearing three topics of conversation: (1) hunting; (2) fishing; and (3) prior military service. I'm sure it was permissible to talk about other stuff, too, but I personally never saw this. This place is awesome - 100% American. I wish all barber shops were just like this one. They give great haircuts too, they used this thing I've never seen elsewhere, a little vacuum attachment that sucks up the clippings as they cut. read more

So I called this place and they told me "walk in only and cash." No problem I grabbed money and went there. As I arrived I saw one person in chair and opened the door the guy yelled and me and said stand outside till he's done. He took me in and cut my hair for under 5 min. He didn't even clean my neck or anything just a half ass fade. Everything I told him he said he can't do. It was as if he didn't know what he was doing. I never like bashing small businesses or writing a 1 star review but come on 5 min and a half ass haircut. And you're a barber shop that doesn't use a razor or anything to clean my neck. read more

Don't ever go there if you don't have cash. The owner will take your phone and wouldn't give back to you. He keeps saying that he has been there for 15 years and never taken a card before, and blames you for not having cash. He should've stated that before he gives out service. He's only taking cash to avoid tax. 15 years in business and never thought about getting a pos machine, maybe it is your OWN fault. read more

Morrie pays good attention to detail, and Chris encourages you to ask for adjustments until you're satisfied (which is great because I usually feel a little awkward doing that). I highly recommend this place for the value--it's much better than Great Clips or something. read more

If you are a young man who wants a sleek haircut, DO NOT COME HERE. Although it is advertised as a barbershop the old man who works here does not know how to give a fade. I asked for a simple fade from a zero up to a 2 or whatever on my sides and he ignored my request and did what he wanted, and then when I said I would like more off the sides he says that would be a whole other haircut. Maybe if I had gotten the haircut I had asked for he wouldn't have wasted his time. He told me that he put a lot of work into it and he knows it looks good and so I said well what do we do, and he said well its $12 for the cut. So I paid and left. Have come here a few times now and am pretty sure I've found my go-to haircut place in Champaign-Urbana. Laid back, small, and simple place. TV is always on to local channels that play reruns of old shows like Matlock. There are 4 or 5 older men that cut hair (1 or 2 are there at a time -- so sometimes there's a bit of a wait), and I've been happy with my haircut from each of them. The exterior looks like it has been closed for over 20 years, but boy is it kicking inside. I rarely leave a barbershop liking my recent haircut, I can't even remember the last time I was genuinely happy with a haircut. This place changed everything. Saw the 5-star reviews here and went on a Saturday morning in July. The gentleman who cut my hair, and I use the term loosely, clearly didn't understand how to do a simple trim. He reminded me again and again that I should be more clear and provide measurements for how long I want my hair. How many customers would know that? After 15 minutes, he more or less insisted that I leave because he was late picking up his daughter. If you had other commitments, maybe you should've found someone to cover your shift? Maybe this was a rare, bad experience but I didn't get the haircut I wanted or even decent service. At least it only cost $12. read more

I did a bad "mom cut" on my four year old son. Due to appointments and school in the morning, I was looking for somewhere that opened before 9 am. Luckily, I found King's! The barbers were awesome and nice older gentlemen. While most of the clientele I witnessed were older long term customers, there was a young man there as well that got an amazing and flawless cut. These barbers are meticulous. They take their time and their skill is outstanding. There wasn't much they could do to salvage my son's hair but cut it extremely short- but the barber did it extremely well and took his time. He also cared about what I wanted and asked me pertinent questions. I've learned my lesson, no more "mom cuts" for my son and this is our new go to for when his cut grows out. The cut was only 12 bucks and they only take cash. Also a plus; I didn't have to hear any ridiculous gossip; just some good-natured banter and clean jokes- otherwise everyone is focused on their job. read more

This used to be my regular place to get my hair trimmed. I have recently been using another barber but I tend to go back here when he is booked. I attended here today and had my hair cut by Chris. Chris used to do my hair for a couple years but when I went in today after a 6 month hiatus I felt my hair cut was lacking. The sides and back weren't tapered that well and the floor was still covered in hair from the last worker. The price for a haircut is still cheap at $12 (cash only), but I'm not sure if I will be returning. There is also only one barber working at a time, but for the price it's not bad but not great. read more

Best barber shop I've ever been to around Urbana-Champaign. The place isn't really what you'd expect to be a business place. It's really tiny place with a tiny parking lot. Anyways, I'm usually not impressed by the people who cut my hair because they just don't seem to get what I need. But this guy nailed it. He's pleasant and most importantly, he makes suggestions. Most of us usually just get the haircut we we always used to get, but it really helps to have suggestions from a professional. And it's the cheapest haircut I've gotten ($12).
